    Chapter 75: We Are Lovers

The old lady’s expression could be described as utterly shocked. Her eyes widened, and her cloudy pupils seemed remarkably bright. “Li Ma, what did you call him?”

The woman excitedly grasped the old lady’s trembling hand. “Young Master, he’s the little Young Master.”

Instantly, the old lady’s eyes filled with tears. “Ránrán’s son?”

The woman nodded vigorously. “Yes, he is.”

Su Shi was completely bewildered by the situation, turning to Chi Ye with a questioning look.

In comparison, Chi Ye, the center of the issue, seemed excessively calm.

Chi Ye stepped forward, standing beside Su Shi, and said to the woman, “Li Ma, long time no see.”

“It’s only been a few months since we last met. I didn’t expect to run into you here.”

Li Ma received much kindness from Chi Shen and always remembered his favor. She had taken care of Li Shuran for a while and got along well with her.

Li Shuran had mentioned some of her family situation to Li Ma. Later, when Li Ma’s family moved to West Hangzhou, she would occasionally visit Li Shuran’s mother.

“Yes, what a coincidence,” Chi Ye said faintly.

Li Ma, infected by the old lady’s emotion, had tears welling up in her eyes. She raised a hand to wipe them away and said to Chi Ye, “Young Master, this is your maternal grandmother.”

The old lady pouted, as if about to cry. “No wonder you looked familiar. You look like Ránrán.”

Earlier, on the way home, Su Shi had been helping the old lady walk in front, while Chi Ye walked behind. The old lady had turned back to look at Chi Ye several times.

The last time this young man had come to the yard, the old lady assumed he didn’t remember, so she hadn’t specifically mentioned it.

Chi Ye had never met his parents and didn’t feel much for them. He felt even less for his maternal grandmother, whom he had never met.

Seeing that Chi Ye didn’t react much, Li Ma, afraid of upsetting the old lady, smoothed things over, “It is a bit sudden.”

The old lady wiped away her tears with a handkerchief, invited them to sit down, and then went inside to bring out a lot of food.

Su Shi looked at Chi Ye. “Chi Ye, is this true?”

Chi Ye replied with a single “yes.”

Su Shi felt like he was suddenly meeting his boyfriend’s family, and he couldn’t help but feel uneasy.

The group sat around the table in the yard.

The old lady treated Chi Ye like a child, peeling a candy for him. Chi Ye didn’t reach out to take it immediately.

Although they were close relatives, they weren’t familiar, and the atmosphere became awkward.

Su Shi was sitting next to Chi Ye. To ease the awkwardness, he took the candy from the old lady and very naturally put it into Chi Ye’s mouth. “Eat the candy.”

Chi Ye then held the candy in his mouth. “Mm.”

This intimate gesture stunned the old lady and Li Ma.

Li Ma tried to make conversation. “Young Master, you and your friend have a really good relationship.”

Su Shi smiled and nodded. “Yes, Chi Ye is a very good person.”

Unexpectedly, Chi Ye dropped a bombshell. “We’re not friends. We’re lovers.”

The air suddenly fell into a deathly silence.

Su Shi wailed and roared in his heart: Chi Ye, is there no one in this world you care about? Aren’t you afraid your grandmother will faint on the spot?

Even more outrageous, Chi Ye even took Su Shi’s hand, intertwining their fingers shamelessly.

The old lady’s expression was complicated, and the wrinkles on her face seemed deeper.

Li Ma laughed and changed the subject, but it was very forced.

The old lady invited Chi Ye into the house with her to show him photos of Li Shuran.

Su Shi pushed Chi Ye. “Go, go. I’ll enjoy the flowers here.”

Chi Ye followed behind the old lady, turning back several times before going inside.

Li Ma came from a wealthy family. Although she was over 50 years old, her thinking was up-to-date, and she was accepting of men being together. Besides, she was just a former servant and had no standing to say anything.

Li Ma looked at Su Shi with the feeling of looking at the young master’s partner. “Mr. Su, thank you for taking care of Chi Ye.”

Su Shi quickly waved his hand. “Not at all, Chi Ye takes care of me more.”

That was the truth. Chi Ye had always taken care of him more.

Li Ma sighed, her tone melancholic. “Young Master should have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but who would have thought…”

It sounded like there were hidden secrets. Chi Ye rarely talked to Su Shi about his family matters, and Su Shi was actually quite curious.

“I only know that he was born on the anniversary of his parents’ death. He hasn’t told me anything else. If it’s convenient, could you tell me about it?”

Li Ma could see that Chi Ye valued Su Shi highly, so she told Su Shi some stories about Chi Ye’s parents.

It was nothing more than a wealthy young man falling in love with a common girl, facing strong opposition from his family, getting her pregnant, and preparing to abandon everything to elope, only for a sudden disaster to strike in the form of a car accident, killing them both and leaving behind a child to be raised by his grandfather.

This was almost exactly what Su Shi had pieced together from Xu Chongming’s words and Chi Ye’s own hints, but it filled in many details.

Su Shi was also curious about one thing: what had happened when Chi Ye was locked in the basement?

It turned out that it was the revenge of a servant in the Chi family. That servant was dissatisfied with Chi Xiangqin and vented his anger on the young Chi Ye.

At that time, the young Chi Ye had angered Chi Xiangqin and was ordered not to leave the house. The servant lured the young Chi Ye into the basement and locked the door, trapping him in the dark basement for three full days.

By the time he was rescued, he was already dehydrated.

Fortunately, Chi Ye had a big life, later that basement was sealed by Chi Xiangqin, and the servant went to jail.

    Su Shi’s heart ached.

If only he had known Chi Ye when he was little.

But that possibility was almost zero.

Chi Ye came out of the house and felt that Su Shi’s gaze was very strange, full of pity and affection.

    “What’s wrong?”

Su Shi shook his head. “Nothing.”

Chi Ye looked at Li Ma, and Li Ma immediately stood up. “Stay for dinner tonight. I’ll help the old lady cook.”

Chi Ye looked at Su Shi, asking, “Want to stay?”

Su Shi knew Li Ma’s intention and also wanted Chi Ye to spend more time with the old lady. “We can. We came out to have fun today anyway.”

    “Okay, as you wish.”

Li Ma went to find the old lady. Chi Ye sat down next to Su Shi and stroked his hair. “What did Li Ma tell you?”

Su Shi’s voice was low and hoarse. “She told me about your childhood. You don’t mind me asking, do you?”

Chi Ye shook his head. “I don’t mind. The reason I didn’t tell you is because I didn’t think it was necessary, not that I was deliberately hiding it from you.”

Su Shi softly “mm”ed, and said gently, “I know, I know.”

Chi Ye gave a faint smile. “Are you feeling sorry for me?”

“How is that possible?” Su Shi said defensively, “You lived in a big villa since you were little, and you had dozens of servants at home. Why would I feel sorry for you?”

“Yes, don’t feel sorry for me,” Chi Ye looked seriously into Su Shi’s eyes. “If you must feel sorry for me, then please feel sorry for me for a lifetime.”
