    Chapter 7: Work Error

“Morning,” Su Shi yawned as he came downstairs.

The sun shone into the balcony. The young man stood against the light, looking up at Su Shi as he descended the stairs. He raised his face, “Morning.”

Chi Ye, dressed in an ordinary white T-shirt, stood there quietly, a beautiful sight in himself.

Su Shi felt that looking at Chi Ye was good for purifying his eyes, so he took a few more glances. He had a difficult client, who frustrated even someone as patient as Su Shi, so it was really necessary to refresh his eyes.

    “I left breakfast for you.”

    “Okay, thank you.”

Su Shi hadn’t noticed before, but there was a bouquet of pink roses on the coffee table, emitting a faint fragrance.

This must be Chi Ye’s doing.

Su Shi’s mother loved flowers and plants. The backyard of their villa used to have a flower garden, planted with all kinds of flowers. When the wind blew, you could smell the refreshing fragrance.

Later, after his mother passed away, the flower garden was left unattended and became desolate.

Those were the beautiful times that Su Shi could never return to.

Su Shi never raised these things, one is that he didn’t have the energy, and the other is that it’s easy to be reminded of people when seeing the object.

Su Shi ate breakfast, casually asking, “Did you buy these flowers?”

“Yeah, I went out for a walk a few days ago and saw an old lady who had a yard full of beautiful flowers, so I bought a bouquet at a flower shop nearby when I came back.”

Su Shi didn’t speak, silently eating his breakfast.

Chi Ye sat down on the sofa and asked him, “Do you like them?”

Only then did Su Shi open his mouth and say, “They’re nice.”

Although he said they were nice, Chi Ye could feel that Su Shi didn’t really like them. It seemed that he had done a bad thing with good intentions.

In the following days, Su Shi was extremely busy. The studio had three exhibitions going on at the same time, and they were severely understaffed, with each person doing the work of several.

The clients had many requirements and the deadlines were tight, so Su Shi was busy until the middle of the night every day. The job of a curator was just that complicated, requiring him to control the overall situation at all times.

Whenever Su Shi returned home, there was always a floor lamp lit in the corner. Without thinking, it was Chi Ye who had left it on, and tonight was no exception.

Su Shi curled his lips. This kid was too considerate.

These days, Su Shi left early and returned late, and basically didn’t have much interaction with Chi Ye. When he passed Chi Ye’s room, he gently pushed open the door. He inexplicably wanted to take a look at Chi Ye.

The curtains only had a small crack open, and the room was dark. He could only vaguely see a human shape under the covers.

Having seen what he wanted to see, Su Shi quietly closed the door and went upstairs.

At this time, the person under the covers moved, listened to the noises outside, and closed his eyes again.

Su Shi finished showering, dried his hair, and came out of the bathroom, carrying a cloud of moisture.

He habitually picked up his phone and saw that he had more than a dozen missed calls.

Su Shi’s first reaction was that it definitely wasn’t good news.

Sure enough, when he called back, a hurried voice came from the other end, “Teacher Su, something bad has happened, there’s a fire.”

Su Shi was anxious, “How could this happen? What’s the situation now?”

“It was a short circuit, an accident, but fortunately it was discovered in time and has been extinguished.”

Su Shi lowered his voice, “I’ve said several times that you need to check everything before leaving work, and everything includes the circuits. Lao Zhang, you’re an old-timer, how could you make such a low-level mistake?”

Su Shi said a few more words and hung up the phone.

No matter what, Su Shi would maintain a good image. This was both an attitude and an armor. Su Shi dressed as quickly as possible and hurried downstairs.

Su Shi’s studio handled both commercial and art curation businesses, but because art curation required the curator to have certain aesthetic knowledge and academic ability, as well as design skills and a very high level of taste, only Su Shi could handle it personally.

One commercial exhibition had a very tight deadline, and the colleague in charge of following up had taken leave, so Su Shi had to take over.

But he didn’t expect that something would happen to the art exhibition just half a day after he left. If he were to be held accountable, he was actually responsible.

Su Shi opened the car door and got in, fastening his seat belt.

Suddenly, there were two “thump, thump” sounds on the car window, scaring Su Shi. Looking closely, he realized it was Chi Ye.

Su Shi lowered the car window, “What are you doing?”

Chi Ye was still wearing his pajamas, “Did something happen? I heard you leaving in a hurry.”

Su Shi was in a hurry, “Get in the car, come with me to take a look.”

Chi Ye opened the passenger door and quickly got in.

With the deadline approaching, a short circuit had caused a fire that burned an entire wall. Fortunately, the exhibition pieces were not damaged. Chi Ye learned the details of the matter from Su Shi.

After arriving, Su Shi told Chi Ye to wait in the car while he entered the exhibition hall. The person in charge, Lao Zhang, said apologetically, “Teacher Su.”

“Alright, we’ll talk about accountability later. Let’s think about how to fix it first.”

Lao Zhang looked embarrassed, “But the inspection is the day after tomorrow, it’s too rushed to redo an entire wall.”

    “I’ll figure something out!”

Artistic spray painting could be done by a familiar advertising company, but the difficulty was the relief on it.

At this time, Su Shi was suddenly pushed, “How did you do things? How could there be such an error?”

It was Mr. Qi, the client of this exhibition.

    “I’m sorry, it’s our negligence.”

He didn’t know who had told him, this late at night.

“Is a simple ‘negligence’ enough? I entrusted such an important exhibition to you, but you were derelict in your duties. There wasn’t anyone here overseeing the work last night. If you can’t meet the deadline, can you afford the penalty?”

Su Shi really had slipped up, and felt guilty, “I will do my best to handle this well and ensure that your exhibition is held on schedule.”

“How unlucky. If there are any problems with the exhibition, I will demand double compensation from you.”

Su Shi had no choice but to promise and put on a smiling face, “There won’t be any problems.”

When he knew he was in the wrong, only forbearance could solve the problem the fastest. Su Shi deeply understood this principle, and completely suppressed the courage he had used to get angry at this person a few days ago.

Mr. Qi brushed past Su Shi as he left, bumping his shoulder in frustration and leaving angrily.

Lao Zhang said, “Teacher Su, I’m sorry, you’re suffering because of our negligence.”

“It’s okay, quickly find someone to clean up, and start work as soon as the new materials arrive.”

Lao Zhang nodded, “Alright, we’ve worked together so many times, don’t worry.”

Su Shi glanced at him. After making a mistake, how could anyone not worry?

Su Shi walked out of the venue and saw Chi Ye standing at the gate waiting for him. “Why did you come over?”

Chi Ye shrugged, “I came down to get some air.”

Su Shi smiled. Having someone with him was this kind of feeling. Although they couldn’t help much, he felt more grounded in his heart.

Su Shi walked towards Chi Ye. Suddenly, his foot twisted and he fell to the ground.

His instep hurt, and he faintly saw blood oozing out.

    “Su Shi.”

    Chi Ye rushed over.

Su Shi took a piece of scrap metal from under his foot. It turned out he had stepped on this thing, causing him to sprain his ankle and cut his instep. What kind of bad luck was this?
