    Chapter 24: Haunted House

The entrance to the haunted house was a massive, black monster, its crimson mouth wide open, a bizarre expression fixed on its face as it stared at every entering visitor.

There were quite a few visitors; they lined up at the ticket checkpoint. Su Shi followed closely behind Chi Ye, exchanged his ticket, and officially entered the haunted house.

Darkness instantly enveloped them, and a chilling aura rushed towards them, accompanied by a musty, decaying smell.

Once inside the haunted house, one had to follow a single path to the very end, exiting through another exit.

There were people both in front of and behind Su Shi and Chi Ye. Those ahead had already started screaming, their piercing “Ahhh!” sounds indicating the presence of ghosts ahead.

Su Shi nervously clenched his fists.

    “Are you scared?”

Chi Ye was in front of Su Shi. He turned his head back to look at him, only able to see a blur of black.

Su Shi didn’t want Chi Ye to think he was a coward, so he tried his best to maintain his composure. “I’m fine, let’s go.”

The space they were in was very narrow. The person behind bumped into Su Shi’s back. “Hurry up, don’t just stand there!”

Su Shi pushed Chi Ye forward. “Let’s go.”

The further they went, the darker it became, making it impossible to see their feet. Suddenly, they heard the piercing cry of a woman.

A beam of light suddenly lit up, shining on a woman dressed in red, her hair disheveled. Then, the woman slowly raised her head, her face a blur of blood and gore.

Behind them, girls started screaming, “Ah, so scary!”

    “Ah, a ghost!”

Some also said, “Tch, it’s fake.”

The red-clothed ghost stood up and floated towards them, her clothes fluttering, her body light, her voice coming from her chest, “Give me back my life!”

At this, the screams exploded, and people began to run around randomly.

Su Shi tensed up, shrinking closer to Chi Ye’s side.

In Chinese tradition, red-clothed female ghosts, embroidered shoes, and children are more terrifying than any Western monster because they are ever-present, unpredictable, and impossible to kill or destroy.

Even though Su Shi had mentally prepared himself for a long time before entering the haunted house, telling himself along the way that it was all fake, it was all fake, he was still trembling with fear.

At this moment, a warm hand grasped Su Shi’s icy hand. Chi Ye’s calm voice came from beside his ear, “Don’t be afraid, I’ll hold your hand.”

    Su Shi swallowed hard. “Okay.”

A man, trying to show off his bravery, mocked, “What’s so scary about this? Look, she didn’t even put her wig on straight.”

As if to confirm what he said, the next second, the female ghost’s face appeared right in front of the man. A beam of light shone down on her head, making her face even more hideous and terrifying.

“Ah, a ghost!” the man screamed, completely forgetting that he had just said there was nothing to be afraid of.

The red-clothed ghost cackled wickedly, her laughter chilling, “Give me your life!”

The group was so scared that they scattered in a hurry, rushing forward.

But the red-clothed ghost seemed to be able to teleport, instantly appearing in front of Chi Ye, hanging upside down, her hair all falling downwards, with her own spotlight, illuminating her terrifying face clearly.

Just when the red-clothed ghost thought she was going to scare this person, Chi Ye remained expressionless and pushed her face away with his hand. “Turn around, too ugly.”

The red-clothed ghost thought this person was too boring and turned to scare someone else.

Su Shi, after seeing the red-clothed ghost scare that man, didn’t dare to look around, so scared that he buried his face in Chi Ye’s shoulder, his fingers tightly gripping his clothes. “Chi Ye, I don’t want to play anymore.”

Su Shi couldn’t pretend any longer. He wasn’t afraid of anything, except ghosts. Even if he knew it was fake. But this was a physiological fear, impossible to control.

“Su Shi-ge, I’ll use your scarf to cover your eyes and lead you out.”

Su Shi was wearing a casual shirt today, with a Chanel ribbon tied around his neck.

Su Shi released Chi Ye, letting Chi Ye untie his ribbon and cover his eyes.

With his eyes covered and being led by Chi Ye, he was indeed not as afraid. He didn’t have to worry about being scared by a ghost suddenly jumping out.

Chi Ye led Su Shi forward at a faster pace. Chi Ye remained expressionless the whole way, and some ghosts even avoided him.

Su Shi’s hand holding Chi Ye’s hand was sweating, and the sound effects around him were terrifying, making his hair stand on end.

Suddenly, someone rushed over, knocking Su Shi and Chi Ye apart.

Su Shi still had the ribbon tied over his eyes, standing in place, not daring to move. “Chi Ye, Chi Ye.”

Chi Ye tensed up, looking around for Su Shi.

The lights came on, and a ghost in official robes appeared. Chi Ye saw Su Shi by the light, standing there helplessly.

    “Su Shi-ge.”

The official-robed ghost was heading towards Su Shi. Chi Ye quickly rushed forward, grabbed the ghost’s hand that was about to touch him, and pushed it aside. “Don’t scare him.”

When the official-robed ghost heard this, he wouldn’t scare him, so he would scare you. He grabbed towards Chi Ye.

But Chi Ye didn’t change his expression, not even glancing at the ghost, and went over to hug Su Shi in his arms. “Don’t be afraid, let’s go.”

The official-robed ghost rolled his eyes, this was too disrespectful to ghosts.

Chi Ye led Su Shi forward. Suddenly, with a click, Su Shi didn’t know what he had stepped on, and his foot twisted, about to fall to the side.

Chi Ye quickly grabbed him, and his foot also stepped on something, twisting as well. A dull pain spread from his ankle.

On the ground were several skulls.

The two walked out of the haunted house. Su Shi’s back was covered in a thin layer of sweat, and his palms were also sweaty. For a moment, he felt like he had finally seen the light of day again.

Su Shi swore in his heart that he would never come to a haunted house again, it was simply asking for trouble.

Chi Ye’s left ankle was already swollen. Su Shi came back to his senses and saw it, anxiously saying, “You twisted your ankle.”

    “It’s nothing.”

Although Chi Ye said it was nothing, Su Shi still insisted on going to the hospital to get it checked out.

But there was no hospital in the resort, only a medical station.

So, the two came to the medical station.

The doctor checked it and said it wasn’t serious, sprayed some medicine on Chi Ye, and told them to go back.

The two returned to the hotel and ordered takeout for dinner.

Su Shi was afraid that he would have nightmares all night like before, so he stayed in the living room watching TV, not daring to go back to his room to sleep.

Chi Ye came out after taking a shower and asked him, “Aren’t you going to sleep yet? We have to travel early tomorrow morning.”

Su Shi hugged his knees. “You go to sleep, I’ll watch TV for a while longer.”

Chi Ye said, “Then I’ll stay with you.”

The two just kept watching TV, and finally, at one in the morning, Su Shi couldn’t hold on any longer.

“Chi Ye, can you not go back to your room to sleep and just sleep on the sofa?”

Chi Ye didn’t ask anything, only said, “Okay.”

They each went back to their rooms to get pillows and blankets, came back, and laid them out on the sofa.

Fortunately, the sofa was long enough, one person sleeping horizontally and the other vertically, so it wasn’t too crowded.

The lights were turned off. Su Shi pinched the corner of the blanket. “Chi Ye, never thought I would be afraid of ghosts, right?”

Chi Ye was silent for a few seconds before answering, “There’s nothing to be ashamed of, everyone has something they’re afraid of.”

Su Shi asked, “What are you afraid of?”

Su Shi waited a long time, but didn’t hear Chi Ye’s answer. Thinking he had fallen asleep, he closed his eyes.

Chi Ye was afraid of basements where he couldn’t see his fingers, afraid of being locked there, with no one to ask about, unable to see the light of day for days.

But these things shouldn’t be known by Su Shi.

Chi Ye’s eyes were open in the night, staring at something in the light from outside.
