    Chapter 17: Accompanying the Patient

Before pushing open the hospital room door, Chi Ye paused with his hand on the handle, listening for any sounds inside.

There was not a single sound.

Chi Ye pushed the door open and saw Su Shi sitting there in a daze. He turned his head when he heard the noise.

    Their eyes met.

Su Shi thought that after Chi Ye went back, he wouldn’t return, after all, he had told him to leave. But when he was truly alone, he realized it was better to have someone with him.

When you’re sick, you tend to overthink, and Su Shi was feeling quite down. He thought that he was sick, but there were no family members or lovers by his side, only Chi Ye.

“I brought you some clothes to change into,” Chi Ye said, taking a bag out of his backpack. Inside were two sets of clothes and two books.

    “Okay.”

Chi Ye put the things in the cabinet.

Su Shi lifted the blanket and got out of bed. Chi Ye anxiously went to support him, “Where are you going?”

    “To the toilet/bathroom/restroom.”

Maybe it was because the hospital gown was too big, but Chi Ye felt that Su Shi was light and unsteady, as if he was about to fall at any moment.

    “I’ll help you over there.”

    “No need, I can manage.”

Chi Ye said without a doubt, “Let’s go.”

Su Shi was stunned for a moment, but had no choice but to let Chi Ye help him walk.

Liu Qi watched the two of them slowly walk past him like old men, muttering to himself: “Look at the treatment he’s getting, and look at me. Different people, different fates.”

Su Shi didn’t let Chi Ye follow him into the toilet/bathroom/restroom, and Chi Ye waited at the door, like a loyal dog guarding its master, not daring to leave half a step.

Liu Qi quietly watched this scene and shook his head.

    “Ah, what a pity.”

Su Shi finished his business, put on his pants, turned on the tap to wash his hands, and took a look in the mirror.

The person in the mirror had messy hair, a pale face, and bloodless lips. No wonder Chi Ye was so worried.

Su Shi patted his face with his hands, trying to force a smile, wanting to make himself look less weak.

Chi Ye was already calling from outside the door, “Su Shi-ge, are you okay?”

    “I’m fine, I’m coming.”

Su Shi took two steps, his body swayed a little, feeling weak, but he knew he was just hungry.

Opening the door, Chi Ye naturally supported his arm, “Are you alright?”

Su Shi thought Chi Ye was really mature for his age, just a worrier, “I’m fine, did you think I was going to faint in there?”

“I was just afraid you would faint,” Chi Ye’s concerned eyes contained no impurities, making Su Shi feel a little ashamed.

Just because Song Qingyan made a casual joke saying that Chi Ye looked more like his boyfriend than Xu Chongming, Su Shi had been acting sensitive for a long time.

Now it seemed that he was judging a gentleman by his own petty standards. Chi Ye really treated him like a brother.

In West Hangzhou, Chi Ye only knew him, so he would rely on him.

And taking care of him in every detail was also a form of reliance.

Su Shi finally abandoned all the complicated thoughts, and he raised the corners of his mouth, “I’m fine, I’m just hungry.”

“I’ve already ordered takeout, it’ll be here soon.”

    Su Shi smiled, “Okay.”

Back on the bed, Su Shi asked Chi Ye, “What books did you bring me?”

“Just grabbed some from your bookshelf.”

Chi Ye handed the book to Su Shi.

Su Shi looked at the cover, “Isn’t this the one I usually read?”

Dinner was, as expected, tasteless white porridge. Su Shi felt his mouth was about to go bland, looking utterly hopeless, taking a sip and wailing.

    “Ah, life is so boring.”

Chi Ye was eating the same thing as him, and he didn’t seem to mind at all.

“Once you get better, you can eat spicy and delicious food.”

Su Shi frowned and propped his chin up, asking him, “Why are you eating this stuff with me? You should be eating hot pot, spicy stir-fry, crayfish.”

Chi Ye pursed his lips and smiled, “I’m afraid you won’t be able to resist reaching for my bowl.”

That did sound like something he would do, but Su Shi didn’t admit it, “I wouldn’t, I’m very obedient to the doctor’s orders.”

Chi Ye didn’t seem picky about food and quickly finished his portion, pushing the half-bowl left in front of Su Shi, “Eat quickly.”

Su Shi resentfully “tearfully” ate a whole bowl of porridge.

It was like eating nothing, just a void, his stomach still felt empty.

In the evening, the doctor came to check on the rounds, asked Su Shi a few questions, confirmed that everything was within the normal range, and turned to look at Chi Ye, “Young man, remember to drink some ginger soup after being in the rain, be careful not to catch a cold.”

Su Shi looked at Chi Ye, puzzled.

    “Okay, thank you, doctor.”

The female doctor nodded to him, “You’re welcome.”

    “You were in the rain?”

Chi Ye told the truth, “It was raining when I came over earlier.”

Su Shi remembered that Chi Ye was dry when he woke up, it seemed that the air conditioner had dried him. “Then go buy some ginger soup to drink quickly.”

“I drank it at home, and took a bath.”

Only then did Su Shi give up.

Of course, he didn’t drink ginger soup. He just said that to reassure Su Shi.

It was still early, and he had slept enough in the afternoon, so Su Shi could only read to pass the time.

Liu Qi next door was playing games, and probably lost again due to poor performance, throwing his phone away.

He looked at Chi Ye a few times, hesitated for a while, and couldn’t help but ask, “Hey, do you play games?”

    “I don’t.”

“You don’t even play games, you’re really a good student.”

Liu Qi thought this person was quite boring. He wasn’t old, but he was very mature. He didn’t even play games, and didn’t seem like someone in their teens or twenties at all.

At about eight o’clock, Su Shi went to the toilet/bathroom/restroom to wash up, and changed the underwear he was wearing.

It had to be said that Chi Ye was really considerate, knowing that he loved to be clean, and even brought this over.

Su Shi said he didn’t want to be sleepy, but he still fell asleep while reading.

Chi Ye carefully took the book from Su Shi’s hand, adjusted the head of the bed, covered him with the quilt, pulled the curtain in the middle, turned off the bedside lamp, and created a good sleeping environment for Su Shi.

Chi Ye walked to the toilet/bathroom/restroom. Liu Qi just came out, and the two stood facing each other.

Liu Qi reached out and patted him on the shoulder, “Brother, why are you doing this to yourself?”

Chi Ye’s eyes were filled with ice, “I don’t understand what you’re talking about?”

Liu Qi shrugged, revealing a playful smile, “It’s best if you don’t understand.”

Liu Qi went back to bed and continued playing games.

Chi Ye turned his head at the door of the toilet/bathroom/restroom and gave Liu Qi a dark look.

Because he was only staying for two days, Su Shi didn’t bother to transfer to another hospital. The facilities in this hospital were just so-so, and Chi Ye could only shrink on a folding caretaker bed.

His head was resting on his hand, facing Su Shi’s direction.

The hospital had healthy hours, and only the slight noise from Liu Qi pressing his phone remained in the ward. Occasionally, a nurse would walk past outside the corridor, and a few whispers would drift by.

Everything was silent, and the mundane world was about to be submerged in the darkness.

The curtain divided the ward into two worlds. On one side, Liu Qi was immersed in the game world, carefree and unrestrained. On the other side, Su Shi and Chi Ye were peaceful and far-reaching.

Tomorrow will be another brand new day.
