    Chapter 12: Past Dreams

On the other side, Chi Ye was standing under a large tree downstairs in an old neighborhood, staring blankly at a certain spot.

Old Li, who took care of Chi Ye’s father, Chi Shen, back then, had inadvertently let slip that there might be another reason for the death of Chi Ye’s parents. This matter had been stuck in Chi Ye’s heart, growing into a thorn.

Chi Ye found out that Li Ma was fired by Chi Xiangqin and followed her son to West Hangzhou. After several twists and turns, he found Li Ma’s current residence.

    This was Li Ma’s place.

It was a very old neighborhood, with no garden, no property management, and it was a staircase house.

Li Ma was carrying a vegetable basket, and a neighbor greeted her, “Going to the southern market to buy vegetables again?”

Li Ma: “Yes, the vegetables there are cheaper, and I can save a lot.”

The neighbor praised her, “You’re really good at managing the household.”

Li Ma smiled and was about to turn into the unit building.

Suddenly, a young man stopped her, “Li Ma.”

Li Ma didn’t remember knowing this young man in front of her, and asked suspiciously, “Young man, are you?”

    “I’m Chi Ye.”

Hearing this name, Li Ma widened her eyes in astonishment. Although her eyes were a little cloudy, Chi Ye still saw something in them: disbelief and a reunion after a long separation.

Looking at the young man in front of her who was much taller than herself, Li Ma’s throat choked, “Young Master.”

    Chi Ye nodded, “It’s me.”

Li Ma was a little excited and wanted to take Chi Ye’s hand, but remembering the difference between master and servant, she was afraid that he would dislike her, “Why are you here? This is not a place for you to come.”

Li Ma wasn’t tall, and Chi Ye had to lower his head to talk to her, “I want to ask you something.”

Li Ma had worked in the Chi family for more than ten years. She remembered clearly why she was fired, so she naturally knew what Chi Ye wanted to ask, “You still want to ask about your parents’ affairs? I’ve already told you everything I know. Didn’t the old man tell you not to inquire about these things?”

“But I want to hear it.”

Li Ma hesitated, “Then come home with me.”

    “Okay.”

The old-fashioned unit building had no elevator, and Chi Ye followed Li Ma up the stairs.

Li Ma’s legs weren’t very good, and she had to rest for a while after each floor. She said embarrassedly, “I’m old, I’m useless.”

Li Ma was indeed much older, with a lot of white hair and many wrinkles on her face. It seemed that after leaving the Chi family, she wasn’t doing very well.

    Chi Ye said, “It’s okay.”

Li Ma lived on the sixth floor, and it took more than ten minutes to get there. Li Ma took out the key and opened the door.

Although the outside of the house was old, the inside was clean and tidy, just like when she worked in the Chi family before, Chi Shen’s room was always clean, “Sit down, Young Master.”

Li Ma poured a glass of water for Chi Ye, and Chi Ye sat down on the already faded sofa.

Chi Ye’s father, Chi Shen, was kind and gentle. Li Ma mainly took care of Chi Shen’s daily life in the Chi family. The work was easy, the salary was high, and she was respected by the master, which was a good job.

She never expected that Chi Shen would die young. Li Ma was fired by Chi Ye’s grandfather, Chi Xiangqin, because she said something she shouldn’t have said to Chi Ye.

Li Ma came to West Hangzhou with her son to live. At first, life was okay, but later her son became lazy and addicted to gambling, squandering all the savings she had worked so hard to save.

Later, he also made friends with some disreputable people and eventually embarked on the road of illegal crime and went to jail.

Li Ma had long been worn down by life and had lost all her edges and corners, giving people the feeling that she was several years older than her actual age.

Chi Ye, who was still a few years old in her impression, had grown so big now.

Li Ma sighed in her heart, if Chi Shen could see his son growing up so well, he would be very gratified.

Li Ma sat down next to Chi Ye, consciously keeping half a meter away, “You look more like your mother.”

Chi Ye had never seen his parents since he was a child, and his impression of them was still based on the photos he secretly looked at when he was very young. To this day, the impression was already very blurred.

After Chi Xiangqin fired Li Ma, he replaced all the other servants in the Chi family to ensure that no one would talk nonsense to Chi Ye again.

Chi Shen’s photos and belongings were all burned, leaving nothing behind.

Chi Shen wanted to live or die for a woman, and had a child behind his family’s back, and regardless of Chi Xiangqin’s obstruction, he was determined to elope. In Chi Xiangqin’s view, this was the biggest failure in his life.

    Failed works should be buried.

“I’m here to ask you something.”

Chi Ye didn’t talk nonsense and directly asked the question that had been bothering him for many years. He only wanted an answer, “You said back then that there was another reason for my parents’ death.”

Although she knew that Chi Ye had come for this matter, Li Ma was still stunned when she heard him ask this, and then her eyes flickered, “It’s been so many years, I’ve forgotten.”

Chi Shen once asked Li Ma to take care of Li Shuran, who was already pregnant, Chi Ye’s mother. Li Ma could still recall Li Shuran’s appearance.

She was pregnant, her hands caressing her stomach, and the way she smiled with her head down was very maternal.

“Young Master, so many years have passed, why are you still asking this? No matter what, you are the only heir of the Chi family. Isn’t it good that everything in the Chi family will be yours after the old man passes away?”

It was also her fault for being talkative back then, not only did she lose her job for the rest of her life, but she also planted a seed of suspicion in Chi Ye’s young heart, causing a rift in their grandfather-grandson relationship.

Chi Shen was such a good person, and Li Shuran was also a very gentle person, but they didn’t have a good ending. Fortunately, God had eyes and left Chi Ye behind.

Li Ma knew very well that Chi Ye shouldn’t pursue these past events anymore, otherwise, it would be useless and harmful to him.

Chi Xiangqin would never tolerate the heir he had wholeheartedly cultivated rebelling against his dictatorship, but he was old, and Chi Ye was still young, he could always outlive him, and then Chi Ye would be free.

Li Ma was calculating this for Chi Ye in her heart, and decided to bite the bullet and say nothing.

“It was Chi Xiangqin who did it. He wanted my mother to die with the fetus, but he didn’t expect my father to get in the car too.”

When Chi Ye said these words, his expression was calm and unwavering, as if it had nothing to do with him, as if he was talking about someone else’s affairs.

He used a declarative sentence instead of an interrogative sentence, and the undercurrent hidden in his eyes made Li Ma feel frightened.

Chi Ye didn’t have any similarities with Chi Shen in the past. Chi Shen’s name was just like his person, he was a gentleman, refined, and gentle, making people feel like they were in a spring breeze.

Chi Ye, on the other hand, had striking similarities with Chi Xiangqin in some aspects. They both had unfathomable expressions and no empathy.

Li Ma looked at Chi Ye in fear, “Where did you learn about these things?”

But as soon as she opened her mouth, Li Ma realized that something was wrong. She hurriedly covered her mouth in panic.

    Chi Ye was bluffing her!

Chi Ye still had that indifferent look, “Yeah, I know now.”
