The person at the staircase slowly turned around, their expression hidden in the dim light. “Young Master, are you just returning, or are you planning to go out?”

It was the Butler, Chi Xiangqin’s confidant.

Since the person was already waiting here and hadn’t yet told Chi Xiangqin that he had sneaked out in the middle of the night, there was still room for maneuver.

Chi Ye stood his ground. “Have you been waiting here for a long time?”

The Butler smiled kindly. “For a while now.”

“Aren’t you going to tell Grandpa?”

Instead of answering directly, the Butler said, “What important matter could make you run out on New Year’s Eve?”

Chi Ye stepped onto the last few steps, standing face to face with the Butler, calm and collected. “That’s none of your concern.”

The Butler chuckled twice. “Young Master, don’t misunderstand. I wanted to tell you that I won’t say anything.”

“Oh, you’re being so kind?”

“Of course. The old master may be powerful, but he’s getting old. In the future, the Chi family will be yours to decide. This old bone of mine is hoping to retire from the Chi family and enjoy my later years.”

He was trying to pledge allegiance. Chi Ye didn’t quite believe the old fox’s words.

The Butler stepped forward and whispered a few words to Chi Ye. After listening, Chi Ye nodded. “I’ll keep my word.”

On the first day of the new year, many people came to the Chi family. Chi Xiangqin demanded that Chi Ye not leave his side for even a moment.

Chi Ye couldn’t find a chance to go see Su Shi. It wasn’t until the evening that he managed to squeeze out two hours to have dinner with Su Shi before hurriedly leaving again.

On the second day of the new year, Xu Chongming brought New Year’s gifts to pay respects to Chi Xiangqin.

There was no choice. This was a task Jiang Hui had assigned.

Chi Xiangqin put on a good show, even giving Xu Chongming a large red envelope and saying politely, “Thanks to you for taking care of Chi Ye last semester. You’re a good brother.”

The smile on Xu Chongming’s face froze instantly, but fortunately, he quickly recovered. “Grandpa, you’re too kind.”

Based on the distant family ties between the two families, if it weren’t for Jiang Hui’s maintenance over the years, they would have long since become strangers.

Chi Xiangqin instructed Chi Ye, “Entertain your brother well.”

“Okay, Grandpa.”

Chi Ye pretended to be friendly and fraternal, putting his arm around Xu Chongming’s shoulders as they walked. “Brother, let me take you for a walk over there.”

Chi Xiangqin watched the two of them with satisfaction. The Butler leaned in and said a few words, and Chi Xiangqin revealed a sinister smile.

The Chi family was very large. Chi Xiangqin liked all kinds of mountains and rivers, so he built a garden in the courtyard, introducing running water, which was very beautiful.

Once they were alone, Xu Chongming shook off Chi Ye’s hand. “Alright, no one’s here. Stop pretending.”

Even a clay figure had some temper. Xu Chongming said, “You’re lecturing me about attitude? Are you worthy?”

“I’m not worthy, so you can continue like this.”

Chi Ye said simply, then prepared to leave.

“Wait.”

Before coming, Jiang Hui had repeatedly told him to make friends with Chi Ye. In order to complete the task, Xu Chongming had to temporarily put aside his self-esteem. “Um, let me ask you, what are our company’s chances of winning the Tianchi bid this time?”

Chi Ye raised his eyebrows and turned back.

“There are currently three companies shortlisted: Xu’s, Miao’s, and Xingdou. I can only tell you this much. The final decision will depend on the results of the meeting.”

Xu Chongming didn’t expect Chi Ye to answer so readily. He thought he would take the opportunity to make things difficult for him.

“Brother doesn’t believe me? Even if my relationship with you is strained, your mom is still my aunt.”

This late apology made Xu Chongming’s jaw drop even more. He didn’t know what was wrong with Chi Ye.

But Xu Chongming didn’t accept the apology because Su Shi would never come back to him.

Before he could speak, Chi Ye continued, “But it was only a matter of time before you broke up. From the moment you hooked up with Du Li, you were destined to reach this point.”

In the past, Xu Chongming would definitely have retorted, but now he wanted to hear what Chi Ye had to say.

Xu Chongming remained silent.

“Since your breakup is a fact, and our two families have business to do, and Aunt has taken care of me so much, why don’t we shake hands and make peace?”

Xu Chongming questioned the truthfulness of Chi Ye’s words.

However, what the other person said was indeed reasonable.

Shen Lin was right. The most important thing for a man was his career. You can’t go against money.

In the face of huge benefits, self-esteem could be temporarily put aside.

However, Xu Chongming couldn’t let go. He still resented Chi Ye for meddling.

However, he changed his mind. He could temporarily shake hands and make peace with Chi Ye, and he didn’t believe that he wouldn’t be able to find the kid’s weakness in the future.

Xu Chongming pretended to agree first.

Chi Ye couldn’t wait to take Xu Chongming to Chi Xiangqin and said, “I’m taking my brother to look around. It’s rare for him to come.”

“No need, we’ll drive ourselves.”

Chi Ye pulled Xu Chongming away. “Brother, let’s go.”

The sudden enthusiasm made Xu Chongming feel a little uncomfortable.

Su Shi didn’t go out all day today. He just lay on the big hotel bed watching TV, playing on his phone, or browsing shopping websites.

It was too difficult to see Chi Ye. Su Shi was killing time aimlessly.

He searched for [couple outfits] in the search bar of the shopping website, and the styles that came up were all similar. Su Shi didn’t like any of them.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Su Shi picked it up and a smile blossomed on his face.

Chi Ye said that he would be downstairs in fifteen minutes, asking him to prepare in advance and take him out.

Regarding the luggage that Su Shi brought, Chi Ye said that he would freeze to death wearing those here, so he had bought all new clothes from head to toe and had them delivered.

Su Shi took out the clothes from the closet and put them on, honestly wrapping himself into a ball.

Fifteen minutes later, Su Shi got into Chi Ye’s car and said happily, “Didn’t you say you couldn’t come out today?”

Chi Ye glanced at Su Shi. “Yeah, found an excuse.”
