    Chapter 10: Fever

Su Shi mustered all his energy to salvage the mess. Mr. Qi, upon being informed about the need to change materials, came over and had another argument with him, berating him for being unprofessional and fearing it would lower the quality of his work.

Su Shi’s patience reached its limit. Even as a service provider, he didn’t deserve such verbal abuse.

It proved that simply being tolerant didn’t earn respect. So, Su Shi stopped forcing a smile and turned cold as well, “The exhibition opens tomorrow, and there’s no time to change anything. What do you suggest we do?”

Mr. Qi was stunned for a moment, thinking he had misheard. When he realized what Su Shi meant, he became so angry that he could barely breathe, leaving with the words, “Just wait to be sued.”

    Idiot, uncivilized old pedant.

Su Shi cursed twice after the man left. He had been holding back for so long!

Everyone said that Su Shi was tactful and capable, and clients who had worked with him praised him highly. Many even became friends, maintaining stable relationships.

Except for this Mr. Qi, who had as many demands as a honeycomb briquette and always looked for faults, especially with his unpleasant remarks. If it weren’t for the high pay, Su Shi wouldn’t have wanted to serve him at all.

While Li Ming was painting, Su Shi stayed by his side, wanting to personally fulfill all of Li Ming’s needs to show his respect.

Later, Li Ming teased him, “What, are you trying to learn from me?”

Su Shi then realized that others didn’t want to be watched while they worked, so he left to do other things.

After reviewing Li Ming’s drafts, Su Shi was very confident. He even specifically modified other details to match the new elements, and he was very satisfied with the result, even more satisfied than he had initially expected.

Su Shi repeatedly walked the exhibition route to ensure there were no problems. Only after Li Ming finally finished, and Old Zhang sent people to clean up, did he leave the exhibition center to go home.

Having stayed up for consecutive nights, he was severely sleep-deprived, and the dark circles under Su Shi’s eyes were very obvious. He just wanted to collapse and sleep.

Back home, Su Shi didn’t bother to turn on the lights and didn’t even make it to the bedroom. He collapsed directly onto the sofa and slept soundly.

He didn’t know how long he slept, but the sky outside the window was already showing a hint of dawn. Su Shi felt dizzy and his body was both hot and cold.

He pulled a blanket from the sofa, wrapped himself in it, and curled up. His breathing was a bit labored, and his breath was very hot, a sign that he might be getting sick.

Su Shi fell asleep again in a daze. In a half-dreaming state, he felt like someone was next to him, and a hand was placed on his forehead.

Su Shi felt that the hand was cool and comfortable, so he rubbed against it.

The owner of the hand paused for a moment and then took it away.

Su Shi felt a little disappointed, but he was too sleepy and lost consciousness.

Later, he was awakened by a phone call. He struggled to find the phone from the crack in the sofa, answered it without looking, “Hello.” His voice clearly indicated that he was still sleeping.

Xu Chongming’s voice came from the phone, light and cheerful, “Baby, aren’t you usually up by this time?”

Su Shi woke up with a jolt, forced his eyes open, and looked at the time, half past seven. Fortunately, it wasn’t too late. Su Shi closed his eyes again, “Yeah, I wanted to sleep in today.”

“Did I wake you up, then?”

    “It’s okay.”

Su Shi wasn’t feeling well and asked without thinking, “Chongming, when are you coming back?”

Actually, if you listened carefully, you could hear the fragility in his words, and a nasal tone in his voice.

“You miss me?” Xu Chongming sounded very happy, “Don’t you?”

Su Shi admitted, “Yeah, I miss you.”

“I miss you too, soon, I’ll be back soon.”

    Su Shi said, “Oh.”

“Is my cousin being good? Is he causing you any trouble?”

“No, Chi Ye is very good. It’s me who isn’t good, I haven’t been able to take care of him much.” As he spoke, Su Shi coughed.

Xu Chongming asked, “Why are you coughing? Are you sick?”

“Maybe.” Staying up too late lowers immunity, making it easy to get sick. After being so busy for a while, relaxing can also make you sick.

He hadn’t been exercising much lately, giving the virus too many opportunities.

“Is it because you’re working too hard? Rest if you’re tired. You don’t have to push yourself so hard. It breaks my heart.”

“Heartache” across the entire Pacific Ocean, spoken through electricity, didn’t seem to weigh very heavily.

Su Shi smiled helplessly, “If I don’t push myself, what can I do?”

If he didn’t push himself, would Chen Jingtian hand over the family fortune back to the Su family? There’s no way that would happen.

    “You still have me.”

Su Shi was about to speak when someone called for Xu Chongming. Su Shi could only be considerate, “You go ahead.”

Because of the time difference, the two were like the hour and minute hands on a clock, rarely meeting. Occasionally they would find time for phone calls and video chats, but they would be interrupted either because someone was looking for Xu Chongming or because he was busy.

The longest they talked was only half an hour. Sudden interruptions like this were common, and Su Shi was already used to it.

Su Shi didn’t tell Xu Chongming about his work troubles because he knew that even if he knew, he couldn’t help. He also didn’t tell Xu Chongming that he was feeling unwell and wished someone would keep him company.

When you’re sick, you tend to overthink. Su Shi closed his eyes after hanging up the phone and thought, am I really that bad?

Chi Ye came back with millet porridge and antipyretic medicine. He came in and saw Su Shi already sitting up, spacing out.

Su Shi saw Chi Ye come back, “You’re back?”

    “Yeah.”

Chi Ye put down the things and went to get a glass of hot water. “You have a fever. Drink some porridge first, then take the antipyretic medicine.”

Su Shi touched his forehead, very hot, “No wonder I feel so weak and dizzy.”

Suddenly thinking of something, Su Shi asked, “How did you know I had a fever?”

Chi Ye bit his lip, “Your face is very red.”

Su Shi reached out and touched his face again, indeed very hot, it must be flushed from the fever.

Chi Ye opened the lid of the millet porridge, prepared a spoon, and handed it to Su Shi. Su Shi didn’t have any taste in his mouth, so he only took a few bites and didn’t want to eat anymore. He took the water glass, the water temperature was just right, and he swallowed the medicine.

“Isn’t there antipyretic medicine at home? You still went out to buy it.”

Chi Ye was just about to say it, “I checked, it expired half a year ago.”

Su Shi fell back onto the sofa, “Oh, I rarely get sick, this time is an accident.”

“Do you want to go upstairs to sleep?”

Su Shi shook his head with his eyes closed, “No, I have to go out later.”

    “But you’re sick.”

Su Shi opened his eyes and looked at Chi Ye, “Chi Ye, the adult world is like this, there’s not so much freedom to do whatever you want.”

“Why are you starting to lecture me?”

Su Shi laughed, “I don’t know, maybe I’m delirious from the fever.”

    Ding-dong, the doorbell rang.

“Who would come at this hour?” Su Shi sat up.

    “I’ll go open the door.”

Chi Ye went to open the door.

The person was a courier, “Hello, are you Mr. Su? Someone sent you roses.”
