    Chapter 105: Going Crazy

Chi Ye had a solemn expression, his lips pressed into a straight line. One hand gripped the steering wheel, while the other tapped away at his phone.

Despite this, he drove very steadily.

Still, it wasn’t safe. Xu Chongming said, “Let me drive.”

    Chi Ye: “No need.”

Then, Chi Ye made two more phone calls.

One call was to the family’s hourly worker, asking them to call an ambulance for Chi Xiangqin.

The other call was to his bodyguard, telling them to rush to the Pearl Tower to assess the situation.

Concise and to the point, not a word wasted.

Calm and collected throughout, he carried out this series of arrangements with unwavering composure.

If it weren’t for Xu Chongming noticing the occasional slight tremor in his fingers gripping the steering wheel, he would have truly been fooled.

At this moment, Xu Chongming had to admit the difference between himself and Chi Ye.

From the moment he received that message, Xu Chongming had already panicked.

He recalled Shen Lin’s reminder from that day: Du Li’s grandmother is deceased. Du Li is coming out. Be careful he doesn’t cause you trouble.

Every word was well-intentioned advice, but Xu Chongming, lost in his hedonistic life, had not heeded it.

The cruelest way to get revenge on someone isn’t to harm them directly, but to strike at the person they love most, so that they suffer a fate worse than death and regret their actions.

And the one most vulnerable to this was Su Shi, whom Xu Chongming constantly professed to love.

All along Xu Chongming proclaimed how much he loved Su Shi, now it seems that every action of his brought Su Shi pain.

Because of this negligence, Su Shi had fallen into danger, and Xu Chongming felt he deserved to die.

No wonder Su Shi would leave and turn to Chi Ye’s embrace.

In an instant, guilt and self-blame pressed down on Xu Chongming like a heavy mountain.

Xu Chongming still had that bit of responsibility in him, and having made his decision, he said to Chi Ye:

“This matter started because of me. Du Li is after me. I’ll go and get Su Shi back.”

Chi Ye only cast a cold glance at Xu Chongming after hearing this. “It’s not that simple.”

Xu Chongming furrowed his brow. “What do you mean?”

Chi Ye took a deep breath, his eyes focused on driving. “First, tell me what’s going on with that Du Li. Why did he suddenly go crazy?”

Everything has a cause and effect. Even if Du Li’s love had turned to hate, it shouldn’t have reached the point of kidnapping and murder.

There must be some unknown reason behind it.

Xu Chongming then told Chi Ye all the more detailed information he had just gotten from Shen Lin, down to the smallest detail.

Du Li’s parents divorced when he was young, and he was raised by his grandmother through hardship.

Being able to study abroad was thanks to his grandmother using her life savings and forcing her son and former daughter-in-law to pay for it.

Over the years, they had also accumulated many debts to other relatives.

They hoped that Du Li would find a decent, well-paying job after returning to the country to pay off the debts and bring honor to the family.

After Du Li committed the crime, many relatives heard the news and came to demand repayment.

Du Li’s parents didn’t care, and his grandmother fell ill from anger and passed away soon after, Du Li didn’t see her one last time.

After listening, Chi Ye summarized: “So he blames your head for his grandmother’s death and vents his anger on Su Shi.”

Xu Chongming also became angry when he said it, “That’s right.”

“What an idiot, fuck.” Chi Ye slammed his hand on the steering wheel.

It was the first time Xu Chongming had heard Chi Ye swear, and he was taken aback, feeling even more guilty.

    “It’s all my fault.”

“It is your fault, you cheating bastard. If anything happens to Su Shi, I’ll make you pay with your lives.”

Chi Ye’s tone wasn’t heavy, but he certainly wasn’t joking, and his entire body radiated murderous intent.

In front of Su Shi, Chi Ye could be a perfect boyfriend, gentle and harmless.

But in the eyes of those who offended him, he was a demon.

Xu Chongming couldn’t help but feel a chill, picking at his fingers. “I’ll take responsibility to the end.”

“I hope you mean what you say.”

If Xu Chongming couldn’t do it, Chi Ye wouldn’t mind helping him.

After that, the two didn’t speak again, and silence flowed quietly in the car.

Chi Ye had already connected all of this in his mind.

Du Li, an ordinary person without any background, had traveled all the way to North State, without money or power.

Where did he get the car, where did he get the manpower, and how did he know that Su Shi would happen to be there?

Obviously, someone had helped provide clues.

And that person was definitely Chi Xiangqin.

Chi Xiangqin knew Chi Ye’s every move but didn’t reveal it.

If Chi Xiangqin didn’t ask Su Shi to meet, Su Shi usually wouldn’t leave the hotel.

Su Shi disliked the cold outside and was unwilling to go out, only going out with Chi Ye when he came over.

So Chi Xiangqin’s purpose in asking Su Shi out wasn’t mainly to persuade them to break up, but to provide an opportunity for Du Li.

As for the butler’s defection, it was used to confuse Chi Ye’s sight and make him relax his vigilance.

Chi Xiangqin had also created an alibi for himself, truly painstaking.

The black Benma G shuttled through the roads like a black phantom.

Arriving at the bottom of the Pearl Tower, the bodyguard was already waiting there.

“Young Master Chi, I’ve been up there. The person is up there, but the iron gate on the roof is locked from the inside.”

Chi Ye raised his head and looked up. The spire of the Pearl Tower seemed to pierce the sky.

Decades ago, this tower was a landmark building in North State.

Later, the city center shifted, and an even taller and more luxurious tower was built in the urban area, which replaced it.

Now it is an abandoned tower, old and rusty, and few people go up there.

Chi Ye guessed that Du Li chose this place probably to cover people’s eyes and ears.

The elevator had long since stopped running, and they could only climb up step by step.

There were still bodyguards guarding above, and they reported the situation when they came.

It was certain that there were people inside, but it was too far away to see inside.

According to Chi Ye’s instructions, they hadn’t disturbed them without permission.

Chi Ye glanced at Xu Chongming, and Xu Chongming understood in seconds, nodded, and went to knock on the iron door, “Du Li, I’m here.”

There was no sound inside. Xu Chongming knocked on the iron door again, raising his voice, “Du Li, I’m here. Didn’t you want to see me?”

After about half a minute, a voice finally came.

    “Brother Ming, you’re finally here.”

Xu Chongming was anxious, “Du Li, what have you done to Su Shi?”

Then, he was glared at fiercely by Chi Ye.

Chi Ye lowered his voice, “Don’t provoke him, get him to open the door first.”

Sure enough, Du Li’s voice came:

“Brother Ming, he’s already with someone else, and you still like him so much. Aren’t you cheap?”

Xu Chongming corrected his mistake and shouted loudly, “Du Li, open the door. Don’t you want to see me?”

    “Hahahaha.” Du Li laughed.

Xu Chongming tried to control his tone, “What are you laughing at?”

“It’s come to this, I don’t want to see you, I want you to wish you were dead.”

A hint of fear flashed in Xu Chongming’s eyes, but he still said calmly: “I’m sorry for you. Let me apologize to you in person, okay?”

“Okay, you come in alone, and then close the door, otherwise don’t even think about seeing Su Shi.”

    “Okay.”

The door lock clicked, and Xu Chongming successfully pushed the door open.

What came into view was Du Li sitting on the edge of the roof without a railing, while Su Shi was lying on the side. The two of them each had one handcuff on.

    Chi Ye was going crazy!
