    Chapter 47: A Free Meal

Jin Mo pushed open the door and immediately saw Bai Xian sitting blankly at the dining table.

Bai Xian hadn’t expected Jin Mo to return after leaving. The look in his eyes above the mask revealed a rare trace of astonishment.

The bit of hurt Jin Mo had felt instantly healed upon seeing his brother’s lonely figure.

Even though his brother didn’t recognize him, he still felt bad after hurting him!

Based on this alone, he felt he had no right to be dramatic!

“Just went to the bathroom!” Jin Mo said with a bright smile. “I’ll wash the vegetables, and you can cook, okay?”

Without waiting for his brother’s reaction, he went straight to the sink and started washing vegetables.

He wasn’t good at cooking, but he was skilled at helping out!

Since childhood, whenever Jin Baiyan cooked, he would assist.

And only when he was around would Jin Baiyan cook.

Almost every meal Jin Baiyan made was a joint effort between the two of them.

Bai Xian’s gaze remained fixed on Jin Mo.

No one knew how hard his heart pounded when Jin Mo reappeared at the kitchen door!

This was the first time since he woke up that he had so clearly heard his own heartbeat!

Jin Mo washed the bell peppers and expertly cut them into small pieces, placing them in a dish.

Then he washed the okra, added some salt and cornstarch, rubbing the fuzzy coating until it was completely clean before cutting off the stems on the cutting board.

Finally, he took out the white radish, peeled it with the peeler beside him, and cut it into thin, long strips.

    Bai Xian was very surprised!

Why were Jin Mo’s every action the same as what he wanted to do?

Why did he cut the bell peppers into cubes when he could have cut them into strips?

Why did he cut the okra stems before blanching them, when he could have blanched them first?

Why did he cut the white radish into long strips instead of cubes?

Bai Xian stared at Jin Mo almost without blinking.

After finishing, Jin Mo turned to look at the person who was still dazed.

“What’s wrong? Did I not cut them well?” Jin Mo asked, looking at his own handiwork. Could it be that after three years of not doing this, his skills had become rusty, and his brother was dissatisfied?

Bai Xian snapped back to reality at Jin Mo’s voice.

He shook his head, stood up, walked to the stove, turned on the range hood, picked up the pot next to him, placed it on the stove, and turned on the gas.

Jin Mo retreated to the seat where Bai Xian had been sitting, leaned on the table, and watched his brother start cooking!

    Bai Xian was quick.

In less than fifteen minutes, a cold okra salad and stir-fried shredded pork with bell peppers and radish were placed on the table.

Jin Mo leaned on the table, waiting for his brother to serve him rice.

In the past ten minutes or so, he had thought it over. He had to be shameless to deal with his brother!

His brother’s biggest weakness was that he couldn’t resist his pestering and relentless clinging!

As long as he continued to use these two secret weapons, he would surely be successful!

Bai Xian was speechless at the sight of Jin Mo leaning on the table, waiting for food.

He frowned as he stood in front of the cabinet, but in the end, he opened the door and took out a set of dishes!

Jin Mo naturally saw his brother’s struggle! The corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve up.

The smile kept climbing upward, and soon even the corners of his eyes were filled with unconcealable laughter.

He didn’t believe that his brother would let him, the helper, go hungry!

Bai Xian washed the dishes, wiped them with a dry cloth, walked to the rice cooker, scooped out two bowls of rice, turned around, walked to the dining table, and pushed one of the bowls to Jin Mo.

Jin Mo quickly sat up straight and bared his teeth at his brother.

    “Thank you!”

Bai Xian’s eyebrows twitched. He avoided Jin Mo’s burning gaze and handed him the chopsticks.

Jin Mo happily took the chopsticks.

Seeing that his original seat had been taken by Jin Mo, Jin Baiyan could only sit beside him.

He was about to eat when he realized he had to take off his mask!

Holding the chopsticks for a long while, he had no choice but to put them down and remove the mask.

Jin Mo raised his eyebrows slightly.

Although he knew what the person under the mask looked like! But after not seeing him for more than three months, he naturally missed him a lot!

From the moment he saw his brother wearing the mask, Jin Mo had been constantly imagining his brother’s current condition.

Perhaps wearing the mask had caused his face to have a clear demarcation between the parts that had sun exposure and those that had not.

Perhaps the conflict between personalities had drained his energy, leaving him pale.

Perhaps the appearance of the new personality had made his face even more cold and stern.

But he never expected that the first thing he would see was a scar half a finger long across his brother’s cheek.

The edges of the scar were white from wearing the mask for a long time, making it look even more grotesque!

    Jin Mo’s heart instantly ached!

How did his brother get such a scar on his face?

    Who hurt him?

Jin Mo grabbed Bai Xian’s arm, his eyes filled with coldness.

    “Who hurt you?”

Bai Xian had never cared about the scar on his face, not even bothering to buy medicine.

Being grabbed by Jin Mo like this, his hand holding the chopsticks paused.

He looked up at Jin Mo.

The two of them looked at each other across the table.

Bai Xian’s heart was stirred again.

He saw pain in Jin Mo’s eyes!

This feeling of not caring about oneself, but being fiercely cared for by someone else, was very strange!

Bai Xian lowered his head and started eating.

Jin Mo gritted his teeth, sat down, and also started eating.

This injury on his brother wasn’t inflicted at Tongmei, otherwise, Gong Min would know about it. That meant he got hurt on the way here or while here.

Self-inflicted or inflicted by someone else?

Jin Mo raised his eyebrows slightly and looked at his brother!

His brother’s expression was indifferent, not caring about his injury at all.

A wave of anger surged in Jin Mo’s heart.

He could accept his brother’s coldness and alienation, but he couldn’t accept him not cherishing himself like this!

Jin Mo felt that his brother seemed to have a bit of world-weariness, or rather, a sense of self-exile.

A chill arose from the soles of his feet, climbing up his body like a venomous snake!

The hand holding the chopsticks couldn’t help but tremble.

Jin Mo secretly took a deep breath.

If his brother didn’t care about himself, he would care for him instead.

Bai Xian ate quietly, but his mind was not as calm as he made it out to be.

He had actually made a meal with Jin Mo!

He had even allowed him to sit next to him and eat together!

He had even taken off his mask and let Jin Mo see his face!

Most importantly, his heart wasn’t repulsed by it!

Bai Xian didn’t know if Jin Mo existed in his lost memories? And what kind of existence he was?

But at this moment, he understood one thing: Jin Mo was different from others to him!

He wasn’t happy when he hurt Jin Mo!

When Jin Mo was happy, his mood would also be sunny.

Since that was the case, then let it be!

Just treat it as a ray of light breaking into his stagnant life.

Whether it stays or leaves, let it be up to the “light”!

After the meal, Jin Mo habitually cleared the table, put the dishes in the sink, and started washing them.

Bai Xian stood by the table, frowning.

He had a kind of illusion that he should go over and do the second step, rinsing the dishes with clean water.

Thinking this, his feet followed the thought.

Jin Mo’s peripheral vision caught his brother standing next to him, so he handed him the washed dish.

Bai Xian naturally took the dish, rinsed it twice under clean water, and then put it into the dish cabinet!

The two cooperated very well, as if they had done this action many times!

After washing the dishes and cleaning up the kitchen, Bai Xian walked to the table, picked up the mask, and prepared to put it on.

Jin Mo quickly walked over, grabbing the mask with one hand.

“The wound hasn’t healed yet. Wearing a mask will irritate it!”

Bai Xian’s gaze landed on Jin Mo’s face.

The two looked at each other.

Jin Mo was determined, no matter what method he used, he just couldn’t let his brother wear the mask.
