Chapter 27: Waiting for the Ship

Time pressed on day by day, and the group became increasingly anxious.

“Why isn’t it here yet?” Jin Mo lay on the bow of the boat, his eyes fixed on the gently swaying river ahead, a picture of longing.

“Hey, you’ve asked that no less than a hundred times today,” Xu Jiahao sighed helplessly. “Didn’t Liu Cai say it could be any time within three days? Besides, shipping isn’t like high-speed rail; the timing isn’t that precise. Three months on the dot?”

Xu Jiahao sat beside him, offering his Nth round of comfort while sipping water.

“It’s only been almost three months. Don’t get so tense. You’re watching during the day and not sleeping at night. Every time a boat comes, you jump up to look. If you keep this up, you’ll collapse!”

“Look at those dark circles under your eyes, and that stubble on your chin. You’re a wreck!”

“You were such a handsome young man. Now, you look like something the cat dragged in!”

“I should take a picture of you now and show it to Jin Baiyan when we find him! Would he even want a younger brother who looks like this?”

Jin Mo leaned back against the bow, resting his head on the gunwale, gazing up at the sky, ignoring Xu Jiahao’s teasing.

The weather was a bit gloomy and stuffy, mirroring his own low and uneasy mood.

He was exhausted, on the verge of falling asleep at any moment, but he didn’t dare relax, afraid he’d miss it if he dozed off.

“Xu Jiahao, I’m just scared. We’ve waited three months, and I don’t even know how my brother is doing now.”

“Not seeing the ship makes me so uneasy. I’m afraid it won’t come at all!”

“Afraid they changed the captain, changed the route, and won’t be using this shipping lane anymore! Just all sorts of worries!”

Jin Mo couldn’t hold back any longer, pouring out all the anxiety and hesitation in his heart. After speaking, he felt a little better.

“Even if there’s a problem with this ship, it’s not the end of the world.” Xu Jiahao patted Jin Mo’s arm. “Huzi is still checking on the information for Sea Transport 5, right? We should have results within a month.”

Jin Mo hummed in agreement. “There are still over fifty other ships to confirm!”

“If you know all that, what are you so nervous about? I refuse to believe Jin Baiyan would completely cut off your path to finding him! The clever way he’s keeping you hanging, he is trying to make you love him more!”

The corners of Jin Mo’s mouth quirked up.

    His brother was truly ruthless!

Using this method to force him to open his chest and take a good look at his own heart!

That evening, under Xu Jiahao’s insistence, Jin Mo tidied himself up.

Two more days passed, but Sea Transport 5 still hadn’t appeared.

Jin Mo was like a trapped beast, restless and unable to sit still!

Every now and then, he would exclaim, “Why hasn’t it shown up yet? Could something really have happened?”

Liu Cai poked his head out of the container. “Mo-ge, don’t worry. Those ships are usually late. Just wait a little longer; it’ll definitely come!”

Jin Mo waved his hand at him. “Hurry back and watch the monitors. Don’t miss it!”

“Alright!” Liu Cai replied and ducked back inside.

“Drink some water, eat something, and calm down.” Xu Jiahao walked over with a bottle of water.

“Are Xiao Feiwu and the others still resting?” Jin Mo took the water, unscrewed the cap, took a sip, and asked.

“They can’t sleep either. They’re making pancakes on the boat, asking every now and then, ‘Is it here yet?'” Xu Jiahao said with a laugh.

Jin Mo exhaled a long breath and patted his chest.

“Ugh, my heart just isn’t strong enough!”

    “Hehe!”

The two stood on the bow of the boat, chatting while keeping their eyes on the distant river.

“It’s here! It’s here!” Liu Cai suddenly burst out of the container, shouting.

Jin Mo’s body shuddered, and he instantly dropped the water in his hand, so excited that he didn’t know what to do.

Xiao Feiwu and the others, who had been resting in the cabin, jumped up at Liu Cai’s shout and rushed outside.

“Xiao Ping, start the boat! Be ready to move at any time!” Xiao Feiwu shouted as he rushed out.

“Huzi, Wu Pingyi, wave the flags to stop the ship!”

With that, he grabbed a megaphone, ready to shout.

In the distance, they saw a ship heading towards them.

The ship’s speed was actually… very slow!

This was completely different from what they had expected.

The ship with the “Sea Transport 5” flag seemed to have anticipated that someone was waiting there, and it steered to the side before Xiao Feiwu could even start shouting.

Jin Mo stared intently at the ship.

“Xiao Ping, move closer!” Xiao Feiwu shouted.

    “Got it!”

A figure stood on the bow of Sea Transport 5. Seeing Jin Mo’s ship approaching, he didn’t panic and even waved his arms, shouting, “Are you looking for Bai-xiongdi?”

As soon as Jin Mo heard this, he shouted back, “Yes, I’m his younger brother!”

    “Alright, alright, come closer slowly!”

A few minutes later, the two ships came to a stop alongside each other.

Jin Mo, Xiao Feiwu, and Xu Jiahao boarded the freight ship.

“Hello, hello, I’m the captain of this ship. My name is Cao Cheng!”

    “Hello, Captain Cao!”

Jin Mo reached out and shook hands with Captain Cao.

    “Been waiting long?”

Captain Cao was in his forties, with dry skin and messy hair, clearly someone who didn’t have much time to take care of himself.

Jin Mo nodded. “Yes, our group has been waiting on this riverbank for three months!”

Captain Cao smiled and patted Jin Mo on the shoulder. “You’ve worked hard!”

    “Captain Cao, my brother…”

“I’ve known your brother for two years. Back then, I ran into some trouble, and your brother helped me solve it. I’ve always been grateful to him and wanted to repay him, but I never had the chance!”

Captain Cao led them into the cabin. “Sit down!”

“Half a year ago, he contacted me, asking about my shipping routes. At first, I didn’t know what he was up to, but three months ago, he asked me to take him aboard here!”

“So where did my brother go?” Jin Mo suppressed the excitement in his heart, trying to control his voice as he asked.

“Two days later, he disembarked at Yucheng Wharf! Someone was there to pick him up!”

    “Yucheng?”

“That’s right!” Captain Cao nodded and stood up. “Come with me!”

Jin Mo was a bit puzzled. “Captain Cao?”

“Your brother instructed me to keep the room he stayed in for three months. After three months, if I passed Zhaojiaping again and someone stopped my ship, if the person stopping the ship was his younger brother, then I should take his younger brother to that room to take a look. If no one stopped the ship, or if the person stopping the ship wasn’t his younger brother, then I should empty the room and destroy everything inside.”

Captain Cao said as he led Jin Mo inside.

Xiao Feiwu and Xu Jiahao waited outside.

“Go in and take a look! I’ll go outside first!” Captain Cao said, leading Jin Mo to a door.

“Okay, you go ahead. I’ll take a look myself!” Jin Mo reached out, pushed open the door, and walked inside.

Calling it a room was generous; it was really just a small compartment with only a folding bed inside. There wasn’t even enough space to turn around.

He sat on the bed and peered at the shelf above the headboard.

There was a letter on it.

Jin Mo was so excited that his head hit the shelf directly, and he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Ah!”

Rubbing his head, he reached out and picked up the letter.

The envelope was blank on the outside, with no recipient.

The envelope was sealed with glue.

Jin Mo held the letter to his heart, calming his excited heart.

He picked up the letter and carefully tore open the seal, taking out the letter inside.
