Chapter 2: A Heaven’s Chosen One Whose Excellent Family Background Can Be Felt.

“You seem very used to dealing with people looking for trouble.”

Song Ji’an said this to Sheng Jia just as the afternoon study bell rang.

Sheng Jia’s pace was still leisurely, and Song Ji’an was also unhurried, as if she didn’t care about being late.

But she looked at Sheng Jia with even more admiration.

Because Teacher Liu had told her that she would send the most conscientious and responsible class monitor to pick her up and show her around the school.

She could feel that Teacher Liu liked Sheng Jia very much. Even with just a few words, Teacher Liu couldn’t help but mention Sheng Jia’s excellence.

Based on Teacher Liu’s description, she sketched out Sheng Jia’s image: probably sensible, obedient, worry-free, and the type who would often seek answers from teachers after class. She had seen many top students like this who were favored by teachers in her previous school. Even if their personalities differed, these core traits remained unchanged.

But the real Sheng Jia was completely different from this type.

She was indifferent, efficient, and knew her boundaries. She possessed a silent arrogance and ease, like a sword-like girl.

“Too many people look for trouble with me, so of course, I need to prepare early,” Sheng Jia seriously answered her question. “Otherwise, my life would become a mess.”

“Why?” Song Ji’an was a little surprised. She remembered that Jingjiang No. 1 High School had a very good academic atmosphere; otherwise, her mother wouldn’t have transferred her here.

“Probably because looking for trouble with me won’t make things troublesome.”

The targets of campus bullying are mostly disadvantaged students from unhappy families, because even if they are bullied, their parents won’t make a big fuss for them.

Sheng Jia’s family situation is very bad, which is something most people know.

Her grades weren’t always this good either; she used to be in the middle to lower ranks.

A mother and father who wouldn’t stand up for her, unremarkable grades – she was simply too easy to bully.

But Sheng Jia didn’t want to sit and wait for death. If her grades weren’t good enough, she could study. If she didn’t have relatives to rely on, she could find other backing.

She steadily sits on the throne of Grade/Year One, becoming someone sheltered and loved by the teachers. Fewer people come looking for trouble with her.

Occasionally, there would be people like Xu Lijing who would argue with her again due to old grudges, but Sheng Jia was already able to handle it and make the other party have concerns.

She wouldn’t say these words to Song Ji’an, whom she had just met, but only turned her head to look at her.

Song Ji’an had very clear eyes, seeing everything as if grass was growing and kites were flying, full of vitality and confidence. Even her surprised expressions were very vivid.

She is a Heaven’s Chosen One whose excellent family background can be felt.

Seeing this, Song Ji’an blinked at her, “You don’t seem to be in a hurry to go to class at all.”

“The homeroom teacher asked me to take you to get familiar with the school first, so missing one afternoon study session shouldn’t be a problem,” Sheng Jia said, “Aren’t you not in a hurry to leave for the same reason?”

Song Ji’an laughed, “Let’s go to the infirmary to treat your hand, shall we?”

Sheng Jia’s hand was still bleeding from time to time, and there was a small scar under the bloodstains. At the very least, it needed to be cleaned before getting a tetanus shot.

Sheng Jia agreed to this suggestion.

Song Ji’an: “The school probably doesn’t have tetanus vaccines, right? Do you need me to accompany you to the hospital at night to get one?”

Sheng Jia was stunned, and then looked at her strangely.

    Song Ji’an asked, “What’s wrong?”

Sheng Jia bluntly asked, “Do you like to meddle in everyone’s business so much?”

“Meddle in other people’s business?” Song Ji’an raised her eyebrows, her face full of innocence, “But I don’t think this is meddling in other people’s business.”

“It’s normal to expand your social circle on the first day, right?” She said very sincerely, “The homeroom teacher said that you are Grade/Year One and also the class monitor. You’re very excellent, and you’re the first person I’ve met at school. Wanting to be friends with you shouldn’t count as meddling in other people’s business.”

“I don’t need it,” Sheng Jia replied in a low voice.

Her refusal was so crisp and efficient that it stunned Song Ji’an.

Perhaps she had rarely been rejected before; the previously calm and composed girl’s ears were now slightly red, and she didn’t know what to say.

In the end, she could only ask in a low voice: “Do you not need me to accompany you to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), or do you not need me to be your friend?”

Sheng Jia: “I don’t need either.”

Having said that, Sheng Jia walked past her and entered the infirmary.

Song Ji’an didn’t go in, only standing at the door with a helpless, light smile.

Sheng Jia was very cool in her eyes, and she sincerely wanted to be friends with her. Anyone would be a little unhappy after being rejected so mercilessly, but she wouldn’t.

Her mother had taught her from a young age to be neither humble nor arrogant. Being rejected was a normal thing, but who knew what the future held?

When Sheng Jia came out of the infirmary, Song Ji’an quietly followed behind her, this time very carefully not saying anything more.

The two of them walked one after the other on campus, the green shade above their heads casting patch after patch of shadows. Sunlight broke through the leaves and sprinkled on their bodies and faces. Song Ji’an occasionally looked up at the buildings they passed. Ahead, Sheng Jia’s cold introduction came, and after passing through several teaching buildings, they arrived at the entrance of Class 1 Senior Three.

“Those few were the main teaching buildings and the cafeteria. You can go see the rest yourself,” Sheng Jia turned her head to look at her, “I’ll take you to the homeroom teacher to report.”

Song Ji’an nodded, thanking her politely, “Okay, thank you.”

Having said that, she took out a box of small cakes from her bag, “This is a small gift my mother asked me to bring to new friends. She made it herself. I hope you accept it.”

“You can treat it as not a gift for a friend, but a thank you gift,” she thought for a moment and said, “It doesn’t mean you have to be friends with me if you accept it.”

Sheng Jia was silent for a moment, but still accepted the cake, a small, exquisite one packed in a beautiful paper box, and you could see the effort that was put in at one glance.

Objectively speaking, Song Ji’an was a very sensible person. After being rejected, she could still maintain her politeness and decorum. She even waited until she reached the classroom door to give the gift, so that Sheng Jia wouldn’t have to carry it all the way, which was very considerate.

Sheng Jia slowly said, “The homeroom teacher’s office is ahead, so I won’t go. Thank you for your gift.”

Without saying more, she turned around and entered the classroom.

The gift was given, and Song Ji’an was in a good mood, walking forward into the office.

When Sheng Jia returned to the classroom, the quiet room was undisturbed, and no one greeted her.

Class 1 Senior Three was the school’s Elite Class, and now that it was the most critical year, most people could focus wholeheartedly on their studies, but this wasn’t the main reason why no one paid attention to Sheng Jia.

Sheng Jia was a very different existence in the class. Her excellent grades and aloof personality caused many people who wanted to get close to her to return empty-handed.

She seemed to have never integrated into the class, nor did she want to, even though she had become the class monitor, it couldn’t change this.

Sheng Jia’s seat was by the window. Her desk was piled with several test papers that had just been handed out during the break. The amount of homework in the Elite Class was always several times that of ordinary classes. Even the test papers were difficult questions that the teachers had collected from different prestigious schools. Even though it was only the beginning of the school year, it didn’t prevent them from actually having already learned nearly twice the content that they would learn in the three years of high school.

Sheng Jia always valued the time she spent studying. After she sat down, she spread out the test papers, planning to finish them all during the afternoon study session.

A few minutes before the end of the afternoon study session, the homeroom teacher, Teacher Liu, brought in Song Ji’an, the transfer student who most people were curious about.

Song Ji’an had already changed into the school uniform. The jacket and pants, which many people complained were ugly, made her look tall and slender. After introducing herself in a very generous manner, she was arranged to sit in front of Sheng Jia.

This was probably Teacher Liu’s careful arrangement. With Sheng Jia as the center, the students sitting in front, behind, and to her right were all top students in the school, in order to facilitate their discussions and help each other.

But unfortunately, it didn’t have much effect. Good students all had their own arrogance. Most of them didn’t interfere with each other, unless extremely difficult questions appeared, which would trigger fierce arguments among them. Of course, this didn’t include Sheng Jia.

Song Ji’an’s arrival made Class 1 Senior Three lively for a while.

She spent an afternoon quickly getting along with the classmates in the class, successfully integrating into the class.

Song Ji’an spent the whole afternoon looking for opportunities to talk to Sheng Jia, but she couldn’t find any. It wasn’t until the end of the afternoon study session, when the newly acquainted classmates greeted her and said goodbye, that when she turned around, Sheng Jia had long disappeared without a trace.

Meng Yeran, the studying member who was packing her bag beside her, glanced at her, raised her lips, and showed a smile of schadenfreude, “Looking for Sheng Jia?”

“Yes,” Song Ji’an nodded to her.

“Unless you stop her as soon as class is over, you won’t be able to find her,” she lowered her eyes and zipped up her bag. “That person has a strange temper and doesn’t like to talk to others. I advise you not to think about provoking her. It’s very troublesome.”

“Ha,” Zhou Yin, who was on duty, laughed upon hearing this, “She’s right. Who didn’t know that Meng Yeran warmly approached Sheng Jia for a week and finally got a cold ‘stay away from me’?”

Song Ji’an had learned that these two didn’t get along in the afternoon, so she didn’t join their dispute, silently packed her bag, and walked out.

The setting sun had already risen outside the teaching building, and the orange light shone down, falling on her silk-like hair, making her whole person more fiery and bright.
