Chapter 34: Never Believe in the Absolute Power of a Man.

Sheng Jia acted exceptionally normal when she returned to school the next day.

Song Ji’an also behaved exceptionally normal, as if she hadn’t discovered Sheng Jia’s secret at all. As usual, they no longer used any excuses to break away from the group these days, and Sheng Jia was once again surrounded by chattering.

This made Xu Lijing a little anxious.

She was really worried that Sheng Jia’s scoundrel relatives would really come looking for trouble with Sheng Jia sooner or later.

In fact, even the most naive Su Zhaolin had noticed something was wrong during a dinner at the cafe with them a few days ago.

Someone was following them, or perhaps it should be said, following Sheng Jia, sneaking around for several days.

Song Ji’an hadn’t said anything all along. Xu Lijing was anxiously worried. Sheng Jia also seemed to not feel anything at all, living the same life of school, cafe, and home.

They knew Sheng Jia’s temper too well. She would never put her own difficulties in front of them. Therefore, Xu Lijing understood Sheng Jia’s behavior of not saying anything. In her heart, Sheng Jia was someone who liked to hide everything and never reveal a single bit.

For this reason, she had been indirectly inquiring these past few days about whether Sheng Jia’s mother had returned home.

After all, that day those people said that Sheng Jia’s mother wasn’t home, and they were going to come looking for trouble with Sheng Jia.

She couldn’t know if Sheng Jia’s mother was really pushing Sheng Jia to face it as those people said, or if she was delayed by something else, but she desperately hoped that her mother would return home sooner.

Even if she didn’t like her mother’s and father’s discipline and wanted to be a free and unrestrained child, that didn’t mean she didn’t know that some things couldn’t be handled by children, only adults could handle them.

How could a seventeen-year-old minor who had never faced society handle such discord?

But to her disappointment, Sheng Jia’s mother was clearly not at home during this time.

She had only asked Sheng Jia once, the day after the incident, when she first noticed someone following them on the way to Greenery Cafe.

After all, compared to Song Ji’an and Su Zhaolin, she had truly spent two years in high school, and her sense of smell in this area was the most acute. But she didn’t make a sound, only informed Song Ji’an in private.

Then she and Song Ji’an subtly inquired about the whereabouts of Sheng Jia’s mother, but didn’t get an answer.

On the subsequent third day, for the sake of Sheng Jia’s safety, and also taking into account Sheng Jia’s feelings, they secretly followed Sheng Jia home every night after saying goodbye to her.

These days had been uneventful, and Xu Lijing also went from overt to covert. Sometimes, taking advantage of Sheng Jia going to work part-time, she and Song Ji’an acted separately. They still went to Greenery Cafe, while she used the excuse of needing tutoring to enter Sheng Jia’s Old and Large Neighbourhood to inquire whether her mother had returned home.

A full three times, the news she received was no.

Sheng Jia’s mother seemed to have disappeared during this time, and Sheng Jia didn’t have an anxious expression. On the contrary, it seemed that Xu Lijing was worrying too much.

This wasn’t just her worrying unnecessarily. She knew very well how vicious people could become for money, even money that didn’t belong to them. Before her grandmother passed away, there were always relatives who coveted the little property her grandmother left behind. Even if her grandmother had written a will early on, it was still difficult to resist the desire for greed.

Although she didn’t have a good relationship with her own mother and father, they would protect her interests and take back the inheritance that rightfully belonged to her.

But Sheng Jia’s mother wasn’t around, so she had to face all of this on her own.

Perhaps because she had a shadow of those relatives’ faces, Xu Lijing really didn’t want Sheng Jia to face these things either. So these days, she was so anxious that blisters had grown on her mouth, but Song Ji’an was calm and collected, without taking any action at all.

This state of affairs continued for a week, on a Wednesday with a sky full of sunset clouds.

Xu Lijing and Zhang Jing had tutoring classes that day. Song Ji’an also found an excuse again after a week to not accompany Sheng Jia to work part-time. She once again embarked on this road alone.

She walked as usual through the alley not far from the school, when suddenly a force violently yanked her forward.

Sheng Jia fell to the ground, her eyes went dark, and soon a hand grabbed her neck.

A face that looked very similar to Wang Jian’s appeared in front of her, with a ferocious expression, roaring at her: “Where’s your mother? She promised to give me the house! Where did she go?”

Sheng Jia’s face turned red. She looked around, and seeing that no one was nearby, her eyes suddenly sharpened, and she kicked the other person hard.

The other person was unprepared, and she quickly got up from the ground, then turned around and ran forward. Before she could run two steps, someone grabbed her hair and pulled her back.

The pain from her scalp made her almost shed tears.

She was facing an adult male who was more than ten centimeters taller and dozens of pounds heavier than her. The possibility of defeating him barehanded was almost zero. To make the other person lose the ability to threaten her, she could only use tools. This would require bloodshed.

But what else could she do?

Sheng Jia decisively took out a fruit knife from her backpack, cut off the section of hair that was being grabbed, then picked up a stick that she could grab nearby and ran forward.

The person behind her took two steps back due to inertia. When he looked up again, she had already run more than ten meters away. He angrily chased after her again.

Sheng Jia had just met his eyes and saw a pair of bloodshot eyes, like a madman who had already reached the end of his rope.

In just one short week, the other person had gone from casually threatening them to making that house his only lifeline.

What exactly had happened in between?

Sheng Jia didn’t have time to think about these things anymore.

The alley wasn’t very long, and soon they would reach the main road. But the person behind her had already caught up. Sheng Jia immediately fought back, hitting his knee with the stick. After taking another step forward, she reached the busy main road.

The man covered his knee and chased after her, gasping for breath while viciously saying: “I will definitely kill you and your mother.”

After saying that, he was about to pounce on Sheng Jia.

But this time he didn’t pounce on her. Instead, he was knocked down by a force.

His eyes went white, and his chest felt a dull pain. When he came back to his senses, he realized that a large group of female high school students was standing in front of him.

Some of them were wearing school uniforms, some were wearing sportswear that they hadn’t changed out of yet. Looking around, there were dozens of them, a large crowd, like a range of undulating mountains.

“Sheng Jia, when you encounter this kind of thing, you can’t fight it alone.” Xu Lijing said with her arms crossed, having just withdrawn her foot. This kick had almost released all the frustration and worry she had felt this week.

Beside her was Song Yi, who had come with her, and a group of her girlfriends, all wearing sportswear. They were all tall and sturdy. Clearly, they had rushed over as soon as they finished training.

The strength to kick the man away couldn’t have come from Xu Lijing alone, but from several people.

They had emerged from who knows where, quickly blocking Sheng Jia tightly, not even letting a strand of hair show, looking at the man with contempt and disgust.

“Yeah,” Su Zhaolin echoed from the crowd, “You’re the school’s star student. If something happened to you, wouldn’t Teacher Liu and Teacher Qi go crazy?”

And standing beside Sheng Jia was Song Ji’an.

As early as the moment Sheng Jia ran out of the alley, she had grabbed Sheng Jia’s wrist, having prepared to do so, and pulled her behind her.

At this moment, Song Ji’an’s eyebrows and eyes were curved, her eyes full of ease and joy. “So, every time we have something happen, Sheng Jia, your mind works so fast. But when it comes to your own affairs, you don’t say anything? Are we still friends?”

Everyone was calling out to Sheng Jia, only Sheng Jia’s eyes were slightly stunned. She opened her mouth, not knowing what to say, only a phrase was:”You guys…”

Probably the pinching had been too severe, and even her vocal cords were somewhat damaged. She felt a burning pain in her throat just saying two words at this moment.

“Alright, save the thanks for later.” Song Ji’an smiled and took over her words, whispering triumphantly in her ear: “Just watch me show off my skills.”

After saying that, she walked to the front of the crowd and met the eyes of the man who was still shouting.

The kick just now was definitely a kick that Xu Lijing and Song Yi had put all their strength into.

Never believe in the absolute power of a man.

Today, they would let people see what was called the absolute power of women. Girls who had been working out for a long time and had well-developed leg muscles were strong enough to kick him until his ribs broke. Now he was still gasping for breath on the ground, unable to recover, with no power to resist.

This was probably one of the few times that Song Ji’an showed her arrogance and aloofness. She took out several videos from her phone and played them one by one for the other person to see. “You’ve been following Sheng Jia suspiciously for seven or eight days. Did you really think we couldn’t see you?”

“We’ve already prepared the evidence of you stalking Sheng Jia during this time.” Song Ji’an smiled contemptuously. “Today we just happened to be away from Sheng Jia, and you thought you had found an opportunity? Too bad, we also filmed the video of you attacking Sheng Jia today.”

“Now, you’ve gone from being a stalker to being a murderer who failed to kill. Congratulations.”

As her voice fell, Xu Lijing and the others applauded with playful smiles.

Wang Ba lay on the ground with his eyes wide open, but couldn’t say a word. As long as he took a breath, his chest would be burning with pain. But the disdain in his eyes still showed that he didn’t know what his future fate would be.

Song Ji’an didn’t plan to explain too much to him. Just now, passersby who had seen the situation here didn’t dare to come forward but had already called the police. Not far away, the sound of police car sirens could already be heard.

“I was just saying, why didn’t you let us take action immediately when you saw Sheng Jia being beaten?” Xu Lijing patted her shoulder excitedly.

In fact, from the moment Sheng Jia was dragged into the alley, Xu Lijing couldn’t help but want to take action. It was Song Ji’an who had strongly suppressed their actions and insisted on taking them to the back of the alley to meet Sheng Jia.

“This is a surveillance video, right?” Song Yi leaned over to take a look at the video in Song Ji’an’s hand, and asked curiously: “How did you get it?”

Xu Lijing patted Song Ji’an’s shoulder and explained: “Some time ago, the school organized alumni donations. Song Ji’an’s mother donated a batch of cameras for the short alleys around the school.”

She pointed to the inconspicuous, cold electronic eyes in the alley, “24-hour all-round surveillance.”

And the right to access the surveillance was given to Song Ji’an.

In the time it took for a few words, the police car had already stopped by the side of the road. The person who came out was their old acquaintance—Teacher Liu.

Liu Qing felt a headache as soon as she saw the group of students in front of her. She pushed through the crowd to the innermost part, and saw Wang Ba, who immediately pretended to have a headache, dizziness, and burst into tears when he saw the police, accusing Xu Lijing and the others of beating him.

She looked at the man who was rolling around on the ground, speechless for a moment, then turned her head and accurately looked at Sheng Jia, who was also the only one injured in the crowd, and slowly asked: “What happened? Explain it to me?”

Sheng Jia had already reacted at this moment to what Song Ji’an and the others had done. Coincidentally, Song Ji’an also secretly poked her waist and pushed her forward a few steps.

So Sheng Jia covered her neck, looked at Wang Ba with cold eyes, and said each word extremely slowly, “He wanted to kill me. Fortunately, my classmates passed by and saved me.”
