    Chapter 38: Highly Curious

Jin Mo finally had a good night’s sleep!

He woke up to bright daylight.

He checked his phone; it was past seven.

He stretched, got out of bed, and walked to the door of the next room, knocking.

Xu Jiahao opened the door, his hair a mess.

Jin Mo couldn’t help but laugh. “Not bad, that hairstyle! Looks like you’ve been struck by lightning!”

Xu Jiahao vigorously pressed his hair down, muttering, “Drinking is too harmful; I’m definitely not drinking next time!”

Jin Mo held back his laughter and turned to walk towards the balcony.

Across the balcony, twenty or thirty meters away, was a mountain.

Looking up, the scenery was absolutely beautiful!

Lush green, full of vitality, like a landscape painting.

This Slow Residence was chosen with such ingenuity!

Jin Mo couldn’t help but feel a hint of curiosity towards the owner next door!

After washing up, they agreed to meet in the lobby downstairs.

Jin Mo wandered around the lobby, touching the old earthen walls, and examining the strangely shaped woven baskets on the walls, like a curious child.

Finally, in a small side room, he actually discovered a kitchen!

“Xiaolian, can we cook our own meals in your guesthouse?” Jin Mo turned and called out to the young Xiaolian at the front desk, who had just started her shift.

Xiaolian smiled when she heard Jin Mo’s voice.

“Yes, our boss always cooks for themselves!”

    Jin Mo’s mouth dropped open!

The boss actually cooked for themselves!

Could this boss be a local, which is why they are self-sufficient?

Jin Mo’s curiosity about the Slow Residence owner increased another level.

He had to meet this mysterious boss sometime!

In the morning, passing by the door next door, he even strained his ears, wanting to hear what was going on inside, but he heard nothing.

If he hadn’t heard the rocking chair creaking next door the night before, he would have suspected that the boss didn’t even live there.

Xu Jiahao said he was crazy! So curious!

Jin Mo shrugged. To be honest, he didn’t understand why he was so interested in the owner next door.

It was all the rocking chair’s fault!

Seeing Xiaolian busy at the front desk, Jin Mo “whooshed” into the small kitchen.

Looking around, he found that the kitchen had very few utensils, unlike Jin Ze’s kitchen, which had all kinds of pots, which were tiring just to look at.

    The boss is single!

Scanning the small kitchen, this thought suddenly popped into Jin Mo’s mind.

Because there was only one set of bowls and chopsticks!

“Jin Mo, what are you doing? Like a thief!”

Xu Jiahao hadn’t seen Jin Mo for a while and came out to look for him, seeing him sneaking into someone else’s kitchen, and his forehead was dripping with cold sweat.

Jin Mo was startled by his shout.

“What are you shouting for? You scared me!” Jin Mo hissed quietly, gnashing his teeth.

Xu Jiahao hadn’t expected that his words would scare Jin Mo into a shiver.

“Let’s go! Don’t be like a peeping tom, wandering around in someone else’s kitchen!” He finished speaking, grabbed Jin Mo’s arm, and walked out.

A few minutes later, the side door next to the small kitchen opened, and Bai Xian walked out.

When Jin Mo had just entered the kitchen, he had just pushed the door open, and seeing Jin Mo walk in, he quickly retreated.

Jin Mo was only focused on looking at the utensils in the small kitchen and naturally didn’t see the small door next door open and close.

Bai Xian stood quietly behind the door, listening to the faint footsteps and breathing in the small kitchen, his mood was very strange.

He naturally heard the conversation between the two in the small kitchen clearly.

    His name is Jin Mo!

    Jin Mo!

Bai Xian kept repeating this name in his mind, the more he repeated it, the more familiar it felt, but he still couldn’t find a trace of memory related to this name!

He stood there in a daze for a long time before pushing the door open and entering. Before entering, he touched his mask!

The sounds from the lobby came intermittently.

“We’ll split into groups of two, check every store and guesthouse, register everything, eat lunch outside, and meet in the lobby at six in the evening! Then we’ll have dinner together!” Xiao Feiwu’s voice was rough and carried the farthest.

    “Okay, let’s set off now!”

“Right, if there’s any news, send it to the group as soon as possible!” Jin Mo reminded.

    “Got it!”

With that, the six of them went straight out of the Slow Residence’s gate.

Bai Xian stood in the kitchen, the eyebrows above his mask furrowed.

Walking a few steps outside, he actually had the urge to follow Jin Mo’s footsteps.

    He thought he was crazy!

Returning to the small kitchen, he took an egg, a bottle of milk, and two slices of bread from the refrigerator.

He turned on the heat to low, poured in a few drops of oil, cracked the egg, and put in a slice of bread. After half a minute, he flipped it over with a spatula, sprinkled it with cheese, and put the other slice of bread on top.

A few minutes later, a simple breakfast was ready.

Bai Xian carried the sandwich to the dining table, drinking milk and eating breakfast, but his mind had already wandered off.

After eating, he sat at the dining table and continued to space out for a while.

It wasn’t until his phone beeped, reminding him it was time to go to the library, that he stood up, tidied up, pushed open the back door, and slowly walked towards the “Gui Wu” library on the hillside.

Jin Mo and his group were running around to different stores, searching for Jin Baiyan’s whereabouts.

The results were all: We haven’t seen him!

As time passed, more and more people were asked, and Jin Mo’s heart sank lower and lower.

“Brother Xu, do you think I might have the wrong clue? Otherwise, how could not a single person have seen my brother?”

Jin Mo sat on a round stone stool, his head hanging down, his shoulders slumped, extremely dejected.

Xu Jiahao was patting his sore legs, thinking.

Jin Mo didn’t get a response from Xu Jiahao, slightly raising his head, his face full of fatigue and disappointment.

Xu Jiahao reached out and patted Jin Mo’s shoulder.

“I’ve been thinking, this situation doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem with your clue!”

    Jin Mo’s eyes brightened slightly.

“Think about it, your brother has only been here for nineteen days at most. If he came and didn’t go out, or if he went out and disguised himself, it’s normal that people haven’t seen him!”

Jin Mo thought about it, and it made sense, the confusion and anxiety in his heart lessened a lot.

“Besides, maybe your brother isn’t in Forest Gate, maybe he’s in those villages!” Xu Jiahao pointed to the villages in the distance and said, “So, don’t rush, being anxious can easily affect your judgment!”

Jin Mo pressed his heart, indicating agreement.

“Right, there shouldn’t be a problem with the clue!” Jin Mo gave himself a pep talk, “I should trust my feelings. Ever since I entered this place, I’ve had a feeling that my brother is here!”

He stood up and stretched his body.

“Let’s go, continue!” He finished speaking and walked towards the greenhouse base not far away.

As they approached, they saw Uncle Li carrying freshly picked vegetables out.

“Uncle Li!” Jin Mo and Xu Jiahao greeted him.

“Hey, what are you two doing here?” Uncle Li was surprised at first, then smiled knowingly, “You’re not here to pick fresh vegetables too, are you!”

Uncle Li put down the burden on his shoulders and pointed to the vegetables in the baskets: “The okra today is very good, very tender!”

Jin Mo squatted down and looked into the baskets.

    Spinach, okra, radishes, bok choy…

There were quite a few varieties.

“Uncle Li, this place is…” Jin Mo pointed to the greenhouse and asked.

“Oh, this is a vegetable wholesale base, you can pick whatever you want from the greenhouse! It’s fresh!”

As he spoke, many more people came out of the greenhouse with vegetables.

Some people loaded up a large basket, while others just grabbed two radishes.

It seemed that the vegetables went directly from the field to the table, saving the middleman’s cut.

“You two aren’t here to pick vegetables?” Uncle Li saw Jin Mo’s shocked expression, “That’s right, those who come to pick vegetables are all locals, you’re here traveling, why would you cook for yourselves!”

Jin Mo stood up and smiled: “I’m here to ask about my brother.”

Uncle Li heard this, said “Oh,” and then said, “Come on, I’ll take you to ask the boss, he settles accounts for people every day, and he sees a lot of people!”

After speaking, he picked up the burden and led the two towards the weighing station on the side.
