DF Chapter 1
by VolareChapter 1 Is It Good-Looking?
Sheng Jia looked up at the sky.
Today was a rare, clear, and beautiful day.
But she wasn’t in a good mood.
There was still half an hour before the morning self-study session at Jingjiang No. 1 High School, and her homeroom teacher had instructed her to pick up the new transfer student.
Her family situation was terrible, but she studied hard and her grades were among the best in the school. Therefore, Teacher Liu, her homeroom teacher, had always valued and pitied her. She often helped her secure various benefits within the school and strongly recommended her to be the class monitor, saying that Sheng Jia was her most proud student.
Sheng Jia was very grateful to Teacher Liu and didn’t want to let her down.
But her wrist was bleeding, and her clothes were torn.
This was the Back Street of Jingjiang No. 1 High School, where small groups from the school would often gather, and disputes were common.
But it was also the closest route to the school gate.
Sheng Jia had spent some extra time at her part-time job at noon, so she chose to take this route, and she also ran into a few people she had feuded with before.
She frowned slightly and took out a wet wipe from her pocket to clean the blood from her palm. She had been cut by something, and she didn’t know if she needed to get a tetanus shot.
The girls she had knocked to the ground were lying there, glaring at her fiercely, but as she approached, their expressions quickly turned to fear.
Sheng Jia took out paper and a pen from her bag, handed them to the girl who had clearly been the leader, and said expressionlessly, “Write down your phone number and name. After school today, come with me to get a tetanus shot.”
Xu Lijing bit her lip, feeling that she had completely lost her dignity today. She slapped Sheng Jia’s hand away, angrily saying, “Are you crazy? What kind of relationship do we have that I would go with you to get a tetanus shot?”
“If I were going to take you to get a tetanus shot, would I have brought people to block you?”
Sheng Jia was silent for a moment, then decisively grabbed her backpack, and with a clear purpose, took out a Pocket Watch.
It was in the style of the 1970s or 1980s, with a bronze-colored exterior, and inside was a black and white photo of a middle-aged woman.
Xu Lijing’s expression changed slightly. “What are you doing? Give it back to me!”
Sheng Jia pressed her thumb on the Pocket Watch and slowly said, “Xu Lijing, your mother and father left you to be raised by your grandmother since you were little. Your grandmother passed away two years ago. This is her keepsake, and you carry it with you every day. Am I right?”
With each sentence Sheng Jia said, Xu Lijing’s face turned paler.
“Take me to get a tetanus shot, or you’ll never get the Pocket Watch back,” Sheng Jia said as she stood up, putting the Pocket Watch in her pocket. “Tonight, if I don’t see you, I’ll throw it into The Sea.”
“Wait!” Xu Lijing endured the pain in her back from being kicked by Sheng Jia and stood up, leaning against the wall. “I’ll give you money. Give it back to me now.”
Her voice trembled slightly, but she was much more polite than before. “I… I apologize to you. How much money do you want? I’ll give it to you. Just give me back the Pocket Watch.”
Sheng Jia glanced at her, her expression still calm, but she held out her hand to her.
Xu Lijing quickly took out her wallet from her bag without even looking and immediately took out all the several hundred yuan inside.
Sheng Jia took it, carefully counted it, and then returned three of the bills to Xu Lijing. “The most expensive tetanus shot only costs five hundred.”
“You blocked me, and I fought back. You injured my hand, so you’ll pay for me to get a tetanus shot. We’re even, and that’s the end of it.”
With that, she placed the Pocket Watch securely in Xu Lijing’s palm, said nothing more, and turned to walk out of the alley.
Xu Lijing held the Pocket Watch that had been returned to her, bit her lip. Her two companions, who had been pretending to be dead, now saw Sheng Jia leave and stood up shakily. “Sister Jing, is this really over?”
Xu Lijing finally came back to her senses, glared at Sheng Jia’s back, seeming a little embarrassed and angry. “Who said it’s over!”
She kicked the wall. “How did Sheng Jia know about my family’s affairs!”
This matter was strange to her, and Song Ji’an, who had witnessed the whole thing, also found it strange.
It was her first day as a transfer student, and she had deliberately arrived early, even asking her mother to park the car a little further away from the school because she wanted to walk in herself.
She had just reached the entrance of the alley when she encountered this scene.
She had initially thought it was Campus Bullying, but the girl being bullied, Sheng Jia, had instead defeated everyone.
Song Ji’an stopped reaching out to call the Police and watched the whole thing from the outside of the alley, somewhat amazed.
After Xu Lijing and her friends left, she emerged from her hiding place, gracefully straightened her school uniform, and calmly walked through the alley, preparing to go to school.
But she was stopped just as she reached the end of the alley.
The person blocking her was none other than Sheng Jia, who had left not long ago. She stood at the entrance of the alley, facing Song Ji’an.
Song Ji’an was slightly stunned and felt a little embarrassed to have been seen. “Hello, can you let me pass? I need to go to school.”
But Sheng Jia didn’t move. She only asked, “Is it good-looking?”
Song Ji’an thought, “So that’s how it is.”
Sheng Jia looked like she was waiting for her here on purpose, so she vaguely guessed that she might have been exposed.
Xu Lijing and her friends hadn’t seen her, but Sheng Jia’s gaze was very sharp and had already spotted her.
Since she had been discovered, Song Ji’an wasn’t going to feel guilty. She simply answered generously, “You’re very strong. It was also very exciting just now.”
“I hope you’ll keep this a secret,” Sheng Jia said slowly.
She didn’t want anyone else to know that she had been fighting.
In the eyes of every teacher, she was an absolutely good student and an absolutely weak person, which allowed her to receive various forms of care from the teachers.
Once this image was cracked, it would be her who suffered the losses.
“Of course,” Song Ji’an replied smoothly, even though she didn’t know why she had to keep it a secret. “But can I ask you a question?”
Sheng Jia: “What is it?”
Song Ji’an then said, “How did you know that Xu Lijing would carry her grandmother’s keepsake with her, and that this keepsake was so important to her?”
Sheng Jia replied, “Because she came looking for trouble with me a week ago, and I spent some time finding out about her background.”
Student backgrounds were the easiest things to investigate, especially for someone who was so close to the teachers. If she casually mentioned someone, it was too easy to get some information about their family situation.
“She and her grandmother were very close and relied on each other. After her grandmother passed away, she wasn’t very close to her parents either. When I opened her bag, there was only one thing that seemed out of place, and that was the Pocket Watch.”
“It has a sense of history, and she carries it with her, so it’s likely her grandmother’s keepsake. Threatening her with something she cherished was the only way to make her submit.”
The more Song Ji’an listened, the brighter her eyes became. In the end, she couldn’t help but applaud Sheng Jia. “Amazing!”
Sheng Jia wasn’t moved by her praise. She picked up her bag and walked towards the school.
There were only fifteen minutes left until the afternoon self-study session.
Song Ji’an walked to her side in a familiar manner, remembered that she hadn’t introduced herself yet, and quickly said, “I forgot to introduce myself. I’m—”
“I know who you are,” Sheng Jia interrupted her, glancing at her. “Song Ji’an, the new transfer student.”
Song Ji’an blinked, a little confused. “How did you know?”
She had just transferred here and hadn’t met anyone yet. Was this conclusion also the result of a powerful deduction ability?
Sheng Jia seemed to smile for a brief moment, so brief that by the time Song Ji’an could see clearly, Sheng Jia’s expression was already gone. She only said to her in a low voice, “Because I’m the one that Teacher Liu sent to pick you up and help you get familiar with the school. I saw your picture in the system.”
As soon as she saw the face hiding behind the wall peeking, she recognized her.
Song Ji’an, who had excellent grades and was very likely to compete with her for the High Ranking Class top top ranking class ranking.
How could she not recognize her?
