Chapter 9

“Why am I thinking about other things? I should go back, or the food will get cold.”

Chi Nan shook his head, trying to get rid of all the unrealistic thoughts in his mind. But walking back to the dorm, he couldn’t help but wonder if he would ever really meet Uncle Fu one day.

Chi Nan pushed the door open, turned on the light on the wall, and put the food on the table. He picked up his tablet and started watching last year’s school anniversary video while eating. By the time he finished eating, Chi Nan had also finished watching the art department’s performance.

After throwing the trash in the trash can, Chi Nan grabbed his pajamas from the bed and went into the bathroom.

He turned on the shower, and warm water flowed down Chi Nan’s skin. For some reason, while showering, Chi Nan saw the rolls of fat on his stomach and remembered Fu Chaoyun’s abs he saw today. He suddenly felt a little weak.

“I wonder if Uncle Fu has abs.”

After showering, Chi Nan turned off the shower and dried his hair with a towel. He was about to walk to the bed to grab his phone and ask Uncle Fu when the phone rang.

Chi Nan held the towel in his left hand and the phone in his right. Seeing a number that was both familiar and unfamiliar, Chi Nan hung up without thinking. A minute later, the phone rang again. After a few repetitions, Chi Nan answered.

“Yu Jianguo, are you done yet? Don’t bother me with your Yu family’s affairs anymore.”

The smile on Chi Nan’s face froze the moment he saw the number. His tone wasn’t very good when he answered, it could even be described as a bit agitated.

But the person on the other end of the phone didn’t think that way at all and was secretly pleased that Chi Nan had answered his call.

“Nan Nan, you finally answered my phone. I just wanted to ask if your living expenses are enough, do you need Dad…”

Yu Jianguo was interrupted by Chi Nan before he could finish speaking.

“Stop, Yu Jianguo, you’re not my dad. My dad died when I was ten years old. I just want to tell you, don’t call me all the time if you have nothing to do. You’re not my dad, and I’m not your son. My surname is Chi.”

“I know what you’re planning, Yu Jianguo. You just want the Yu family to have an heir, right? Let me tell you, don’t even think about it. I, Chi Nan, like men. I can’t have an heir in this lifetime. Give up that idea.”

After Chi Nan hung up the phone, he decisively blacklisted the number. Thinking about what Yu Jianguo had said just now, calling himself Dad, it was laughable. Chi Nan hadn’t had a dad since he was ten years old.

Perhaps because of this phone call, Chi Nan dreamed about what happened nine years ago when he went to sleep that night.

Nine years ago, his mother, Chi Ruyue, was an art teacher with a lot of artistic talent. Yu Jianguo, the man, was also a well-known talent in the area. The two of them being together was considered a good story. But as time went on, Yu Jianguo finally realized that his talent couldn’t provide for Chi Ruyue and Chi Nan. Chi Ruyue’s salary alone wasn’t enough to support Chi Nan and Yu Jianguo.

So Yu Jianguo told Chi Ruyue that he wanted to go out and make a living, to make a name for himself, and then bring Chi Ruyue and Chi Nan back. At that time, Chi Ruyue was no longer as beautiful as she was when she was young because taking care of Chi Nan had taken a lot of her energy. She didn’t have the same radiance as before. But Yu Jianguo was still Yu Jianguo. Chi Ruyue thought her husband made sense, so she let him go, staying at home to take care of Chi Nan and Yu Jianguo’s parents.

Later, Yu Jianguo really sent a lot of money every month, but it gradually became less and less, and eventually they couldn’t contact him at all. Chi Ruyue then realized that something was wrong. She temporarily entrusted Chi Nan to Yu Jianguo’s parents and went to find Yu Jianguo alone. After many twists and turns, Chi Ruyue found Yu Jianguo. She saw Yu Jianguo with a pregnant woman, being intimate and embracing. Chi Ruyue immediately understood. She should have understood when Yu Jianguo’s money was given more and more, but she believed her husband wouldn’t do that. But reality slapped her in the face.

Chi Ruyue originally wanted to go to Yu Jianguo and ask him why he abandoned his wife and son, but because of their past love, Chi Ruyue didn’t say anything. After returning home, she told Chi Nan that his father was dead. Little Chi Nan didn’t know what death was at the time.

“Then, Mom, will Dad come back? He promised to take me to see elephants and go to the amusement park.”

The young Chi Nan didn’t know why his mother was always crying and had been shedding tears. Later, he went to ask his grandmother, who had a big fight with his mother because of this.

“Who said my son is dead? It’s all because of you, you jinx! I didn’t want him to marry you in the first place. Now look, he’s not coming back, and you’re telling me he’s dead?”

That was the first time Chi Nan saw his grandmother and mother arguing. In his impression, his grandmother didn’t like them very much, but she wouldn’t go as far as to fight.

After that day, Chi Ruyue cried every day and eventually fell ill. Chi Nan panicked. His mother was in bed, and no matter how much the young Chi Nan shook her, she wouldn’t wake up.

    “Mom, Mom, what’s wrong?”

Little Chi Nan was very anxious at this time. No matter how much he shook Chi Ruyue’s arm, she wouldn’t wake up. He anxiously wanted to find his grandmother to save his mother. Because he ran too fast, he fell. His whole leg was red, and little Chi Nan endured the tears and went to find his grandmother.

“Grandma, my mom seems to have fainted. Please go and see.”

“Fainted? It would be better if she died. My son called me yesterday and said he would take me to live in a big city. My current daughter-in-law is pregnant. I don’t want to see that jinx and you, you little jinx.”

Little Chi Nan never thought that his grandmother, who was usually kind to him, would turn her back on him like this. The moment his grandmother waved his hand away, Chi Nan knew that they were always superfluous in the old Yu family.

Chi Nan didn’t know what to do at this time, so he ran to find the doctor near them to come and see his mother. When he found the doctor, he could still hear his grandmother, Yu Jianguo’s mother, cursing.

“I didn’t agree to this marriage in the first place. An art teacher who dresses so flamboyantly, maybe the child in her belly isn’t even from the old Yu family. What a piece of trash.”

Words like these buzzed in Chi Nan’s ears, like a bee, noisy, making Chi Nan shout.
