BLHO Chapter 6
by VolareThat night, Lin Shuangxu’s dreams were fragmented, waking up every so often, not getting a solid sleep all night.
Meanwhile, He Yuncheng held him as if he were a rare treasure, not letting go for a moment even in his sleep.
The snow outside continued until dawn, a thick layer covering the entire courtyard.
With such a tender and fragrant person in his arms, he slept comfortably, waking up to the sound of servants coming in to add fuel to the brazier.
The spot beside him was already empty.
He Yuncheng knew what time Lin Shuangxu had left, having deliberately loosened his hold to let him go.
The young master cared about his reputation; if the servants in the General’s Residence saw him spending the night in the General’s Room, rumors would spread, and he would be unhappy again.
He Yuncheng stretched languidly and got out of bed, in high spirits.
“The General is awake.” The servant in the room attended to his washing and dressing, saying, “Breakfast is ready.”
“Mm.” He Yuncheng quickly changed his clothes and went out to the main hall.
The dining table was laden with savory porridge and side dishes, a lavish spread, but only the steward was in the hall.
“Where is the young master?” He Yuncheng asked.
“The young master said he wasn’t feeling well and would rest in his room for a while, skipping breakfast.”
“Not feeling well?” He Yuncheng immediately became anxious, wondering if it was because he’d been pulling him around the previous night, catching a cold.
Without even sitting down, he turned and headed out, “I’ll go take a look.”
“General, have something to eat before you go.”
He Yuncheng paused thoughtfully, unable to care for himself, he said to the steward, “Put this porridge in a food container for me, I’ll take it to his room.”
“Alright.”
He carried the porridge, striding across the courtyard to Lin Shuangxu’s room, remembering to knock.
There was no response.
He continued to knock, “Where do you feel unwell? Do you need a doctor?”
Still no response.
He Yuncheng ran out of patience and directly forced the door open, discovering that it was not locked.
The room was quiet, incense burning, Lin Shuangxu sat by the window, head down reading a book, not passed out in bed as he had imagined.
He Yuncheng breathed a sigh of relief, closed the door behind him, put down the food container, and said to him, “The steward said you’re sick.”
Lin Shuangxu glanced at him, not saying anything.
He Yuncheng crossed his arms, asking, “Skipping meals just to avoid me?”
Lin Shuangxu still ignored him, continuing to read.
He Yuncheng raised a leg, sitting impudently on his desk, back to his roguish self, asking, “What book is so interesting? Share it with your foolish brother.”
He didn’t manage to see what book it was, but as soon as he got close, Lin Shuangxu felt a wave of heat.
Something was wrong.
He composed himself, looking at Lin Shuangxu’s somewhat haggard profile, pressing his cheek against his forehead.
Burning hot.
Only then did he notice the redness in Lin Shuangxu’s eyes and his dry lips.
This wasn’t nothing; he had caught a cold.
“Why didn’t you say you had a fever?” He Yuncheng snatched the book from his hands, “Get back to bed.”
Without waiting for Lin Shuangxu to move himself, he directly scooped him up in his arms and carried him back to the bed.
“What are you doing again, let me go…” Lin Shuangxu wanted to be fierce but lacked the strength, his voice weak, and he couldn’t help but cough twice in his agitation.
This was going to break He Yuncheng’s heart.
He laid him on the bed, covered him with the blanket, and called out to the servants outside, “Go fetch a doctor!”
“Don’t bother with a doctor… I’ll be fine after some rest.” Lin Shuangxu tugged at his sleeve, coughing again.
He Yuncheng frowned deeply, “It’s all my fault, I shouldn’t have last night…”
“Alright, don’t say it.” Lin Shuangxu lowered his head, “Go out, let me have some peace.”
“I won’t disturb you, I’ll stay here with you, I’ll leave after the doctor comes and checks you out.”
Lin Shuangxu really wasn’t feeling well and didn’t have the strength to argue with him.
“Are you hungry? I brought you some porridge.” He Yuncheng got up to take out the porridge from the food container, sat back by the bed, scooped up a spoonful, blew on it to cool it down, and fed it to Lin Shuangxu’s lips, coaxing and pleading, “Take a bite.”
Lin Shuangxu looked at him wearily, not opening his mouth.
He Yuncheng truly knew he was in the wrong, “If you’re upset, you can hit me or scold me.”
He didn’t want to hit him, nor did he want to scold him, he couldn’t control this wolf cub.
“Put the porridge down, I’ll drink it myself later, you go out.”
How would He Yuncheng dare to go against him now? He obediently got up, but still couldn’t set his mind at ease, hesitating for a long while before leaving.
He didn’t dare to go far, standing guard outside his door until the steward brought the doctor back.
“Greetings, General He.” The doctor, carrying his medicine chest, bowed to He Yuncheng, who quickly waved his hand, “A member of my household has caught a cold, please, doctor, give him a thorough examination.”
–
It wasn’t anything serious, just a common cold.
The doctor took Lin Shuangxu’s pulse, prescribed a formula, and explained when to take the medicine.
Seeing that He Yuncheng was overly worried, he repeatedly comforted him, “General, there’s no need to worry, let the young master rest quietly for a few days and he will recover. Keep his diet light these few days, add more clothes, pay attention to keeping warm, and avoid catching cold again.”
He Yuncheng couldn’t possibly feel at ease until Lin Shuangxu recovered.
He nodded, “Thank you, doctor. Someone, give him a reward.”
After seeing off the doctor, the old servant quickly took people to brew the medicine.
The bowl of porridge was still on the bedside table; Lin Shuangxu hadn’t taken a single sip after he left just now, it was already cold.
“I’ll have the kitchen cook you another bowl, the doctor said you can’t take the medicine on an empty stomach.”
“No need.” Lin Shuangxu said, “I have no appetite, I can’t drink it.”
“You have to drink it even if you can’t.” He Yuncheng didn’t allow him to argue.
Anxious that the general was worried, the servants didn’t dare delay for a moment, and soon brought over warm white porridge.
He Yuncheng still fed him personally, “Open your mouth.”
He still refused to drink.
He Yuncheng sighed helplessly.
He wouldn’t admit it, but He Yuncheng wasn’t stupid, couldn’t he feel that he was angry?
Daring not to fool around anymore, He Yuncheng earnestly said to him, “I promise, I won’t mess with you again, besides letting me marry someone else, I’ll listen to whatever you say.”
Lin Shuangxu shook his head mockingly, “I’m just someone who clings to power, how could I be qualified to discipline the General?”
“I’m not a General.” He Yuncheng brought the spoon to his lips, saying seriously, “I am Lin Shuangxu’s lapdog, I just like being scolded by the young master.”
He really… could say anything.
Lin Shuangxu turned his head away in annoyance.
There was no such word as “discouraged” in He Yuncheng’s life; he moved closer shamelessly, continuing to coax, “Young Master, please be generous and kind, don’t lower yourself to my level, please, just give me some face and take a bite, okay?”
