Chapter 139: The Disappearance of Chu Zhaoyi

“San Mu, you really are something, finally managing to sneak out, and you come here to walk right into the trap?”

“Don’t think that just because you managed to get away this time, you can outsmart your parents!”

Lu Eryin’s voice was extremely low, but it couldn’t hide the anxiety within. He stood in the corner of the banquet hall, his brows tightly furrowed, his gaze constantly sweeping towards the entrance, as if waiting for something, or as if guarding against something.

Gu Yusen stood beside him, his face covered in heavy makeup, almost unrecognizable. People in this circle all knew him, so he had the makeup artist apply a lot to his face.

Unless someone close to him was standing right in front of him, no one would be able to recognize him.

His fingers unconsciously rubbed against his cuff, his fingertips trembling slightly. The sound of his heartbeat in his chest seemed to roar in his ears, making him a little dizzy. His gaze was fixed on the door of the banquet hall, as if he wanted to see through it.

“I said I would come,” Gu Yusen’s voice was very soft.

“I broke my promise once, I can’t lie to the kid again this time.”

Lu Eryin sighed, raised his hand and rubbed his temples, his tone full of helplessness and worry, “You really are… causing such a scene, I’m going to get beaten to death by my parents when I get back.”

Gu Yusen didn’t respond, his attention was entirely on the entrance. Time passed minute by minute, the number of people in the banquet hall increased, and laughter and conversation mixed together, forming a suffocating noise.

However, Chu Zhaoyi’s figure never appeared.

“Why isn’t he here yet…” Lu Eryin muttered in a low voice, his gaze sweeping across the banquet hall. Xie Tingyun and Xie Yuyin were exchanging pleasantries with guests, but Zhang Anru and Chu Zhaoyi were nowhere to be seen.

Gu Yusen’s fingers suddenly clenched his cuff, his knuckles turning white from the force. His chest felt like something was pressing on it, his breathing became a little difficult.

It had been three days, he hadn’t seen Chu Zhaoyi for three days, and they hadn’t even exchanged a single message. And now, with only half an hour left before the start of the banquet, Chu Zhaoyi was still nowhere to be found.

Logically speaking, nothing should happen to Chu Zhaoyi in the Xie family.

But a feeling of unease surged into his heart like a tide. Gu Yusen felt like his heart was being tightly gripped by an invisible hand, each beat bringing a stinging pain. His gaze quickly swept across the banquet hall, trying to find a trace of a clue from those faces, but everything was in vain.

Suddenly, a slight commotion came from the entrance. Gu Yusen suddenly looked up and saw Xie Tingyun hurriedly passing through the crowd, his expression solemn, his footsteps hurried, as if something urgent had happened.

His gaze briefly met Gu Yusen’s, and he seemed to be stunned for a moment, but then quickly looked away and quickly left the banquet hall.

In that instant, Gu Yusen’s heart sank sharply. His fingers unconsciously pressed against his chest, his throat tightened, his breathing became rapid, and countless possibilities flashed through his mind, each one making him feel suffocated.

“Ears…” Gu Yusen’s voice was hoarse and almost inaudible, he tried to suppress the panic in his heart, and forced himself to remain calm, “Check it out, quickly.”

Lu Eryin noticed his abnormality, his brow furrowed even tighter: “What’s wrong? You don’t look too good.”

Gu Yusen didn’t answer, his gaze was still fixed on Xie Tingyun’s departing back, his fingers tightly clenching his cuff, his knuckles turning white from the force.

His mind kept replaying the expression on Xie Tingyun’s face when he left, that kind of hurry and solemnity was definitely not an ordinary act.

“Something happened to Chu Zhaoyi,” Gu Yusen’s voice was very low, but with a kind of unquestionable certainty.

Lu Eryin was stunned for a moment, then reacted, his face also becoming solemn: “Don’t think wildly, maybe he was just delayed on the way.”

Gu Yusen shook his head, his voice hoarse and suppressed: “No, something must have happened to him… I have to find him.”

There was a trace of trembling in his voice, but he forcibly suppressed the panic in his heart. He knew that he couldn’t panic now, absolutely couldn’t panic. Chu Zhaoyi needed him, he had to be calm, he had to find him.

From early this morning, he couldn’t stop feeling anxious. Logically speaking, he should be happy to see Ah Yi today, but he was desperately anxious.

Lu Eryin looked at him, a complicated look flashed in his eyes. He opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but in the end just sighed, and said in a low voice: “Okay, I’ll help you check.”

Gu Yusen nodded, his fingers still tightly clenching his cuff, his fingertips turning white from the force. He followed Xie Tingyun’s departing back.
