PPS Chapter 132
by VolareChapter 132: “Okay, Brother Sanmu, be careful.”
Bodyguards grabbed his arms on either side, applying just enough force to prevent him from breaking free without actually hurting him.
He had trained in martial arts since he was young, but he couldn’t stand against the sheer number of bodyguards, who also used weapons without any regard for martial ethics.
Madam Gu stood at the top of the stairs, the hem of her cheongsam perfectly still. She raised her hand and waved, signaling the bodyguards to take him upstairs.
She looked up at her son being dragged away, the jade earrings reflecting a cold light in the twilight. For a moment, Gu Yusen saw her fingers, painted with henna red nail polish, tremble slightly, but she quickly reverted to being the dignified and elegant matriarch of the Gu family.
“Think carefully,” she said, her voice sounding like it was coming from a great distance. “Think about your identity, think about the responsibilities of the Gu family’s heir.”
She was somewhat weary. Back then, her husband had insisted on marrying her, defying his parents for her sake. They had held hands and weathered the most difficult period, but she never expected something like this to happen to her own son.
The bedroom door slammed shut behind him, the sound of the lock clicking crisp and jarring.
The butler’s voice came from outside the door, as respectful as ever: “Young Master, Madam instructed that you can come out whenever you’ve thought things through.”
Gu Yusen slid down to the floor in defeat, his hands bound with coarse hemp rope, his back pressed against the cold door panel. Twilight streamed in through the French windows, casting a long, slender band of light at his feet.
He had expected some difficulty upon returning this time, but at most, he thought he would just endure a few more family reprimands.
He never imagined he would be locked up first.
“Ayi…” he murmured to himself, his fingers unconsciously caressing the phone in his pocket. As expected, the signal was blocked.
He hadn’t anticipated that things would escalate like this, so he hadn’t told Chu Zhaoyi in advance. He had told Chu Zhaoyi to go home and wait for him obediently after looking at the painting.
He wondered if the boy had gone home yet.
He went to the window and looked down. It was only the second floor, so he could actually jump, but there were many people guarding below.
Madam Gu seemed determined; all he could see were black suits of bodyguards.
Gu Yusen calmed down and knocked on the door, calling for a bodyguard.
“Young Master Gu,” a respectful voice came from outside.
“Get my mother here.”
There was no response, but after ten minutes, Madam Gu’s voice came from the door.
“I don’t think you’ve thought things through in ten minutes,” Madam Gu said in a flat tone, making it impossible to discern her emotions.
“Ayi is home alone, and I’m worried. He’ll be worried if I don’t go back for so long.”
“I’ll notify the Xie family to pick him up. After that, you don’t need to see each other again.”
“He only trusts me.” Chu Zhaoyi’s psychological problems hadn’t been completely cured yet. Mason had said that he was his greatest source of security. If he left without a word today and let the Xie family just pick him up,
it would be too sudden for Chu Zhaoyi.
It would easily stimulate him.
Even if he couldn’t leave here for the time being, he had to soothe him.
Madam Gu pondered for a long time outside before finally opening the door and handing him a phone. She watched her rebellious son holding the phone, and then Chu Zhaoyi’s voice, filled with joy, came from the other end.
“Brother Sanmu? When are you coming back? It’s very late.”
When Gu Yusen heard Chu Zhaoyi’s voice, his eyebrows and eyes softened, completely losing his earlier defiant appearance.
“Ayi, listen to me. Something came up at the Gu family, and I have to go on a business trip for a few days. Be good at home alone these days, okay?” He thought he would need to coax Chu Zhaoyi for a long time before he would nod.
But as soon as he finished speaking, there was only two seconds of silence on the other end.
“Okay, Brother Sanmu, be careful,” the tone was somewhat disappointed.
