Chapter 48

Chi Nan saw Fu Chaoyun frowning. How could he feel better after drinking those few glasses of wine? Seeing that Fu Chaoyun’s complexion was not good, Chi Nan quickly went into the kitchen to use the available ingredients to make a sobering soup for Fu Chaoyun, preferably one that would induce vomiting. When Chi Nan came out with the bowl, there was no sign of Fu Chaoyun in the living room.

After Chi Nan entered the kitchen, Fu Chaoyun’s face became increasingly pale. He took two steps, wanting to go into the kitchen, but his stomach felt like it was being twisted by a knife. Liang Sixu noticed something was wrong and quickly stepped forward to Fu Chaoyun’s side.

“Let me help you go inside and rest for a while.”

Liang Sixu supported Fu Chaoyun’s arm.

“No need, just stay out of my way.”

Fu Chaoyun shook off Liang Sixu’s arm and walked to the nearby toilet, where he vomited everything he had eaten. Although Fu Chaoyun initially told Liang Sixu not to follow, how could Liang Sixu not? He still followed Fu Chaoyun. Fu Chaoyun felt much better after vomiting everything he had eaten, but his complexion was still not good.

The production team was also afraid of something happening, so they quickly stepped forward to ask if he needed to go to the hospital. At this point, they couldn’t care less about filming the show; they couldn’t afford to ruin someone because of a show, and then no one would be able to take responsibility.

Fu Chaoyun said it wasn’t necessary. He felt much better after vomiting and just wanted to go upstairs to lie down for a while. Fu Chaoyun randomly grabbed a staff member to help him upstairs, wanting to get some sleep.

The rooms upstairs were shared by two people; the farmhouse didn’t have that many rooms. Fu Chaoyun pushed open a door and didn’t see Chi Nan, nor anyone else. Fu Chaoyun told the staff member that when Chi Nan came up, he should come to this room.

He lay down to rest. Fu Chaoyun fell asleep for a while. Downstairs, Chi Nan looked at the sobering soup, feeling somewhat at a loss. He had originally intended to cook a bowl of soup for Uncle Fu, but the person was gone, leaving only himself. After Chi Nan put the sobering soup back in the kitchen, Liang Sixu came out at some point and approached Chi Nan.

“Let’s talk,” Liang Sixu said. At this moment, the cameraman and the production team deliberately avoided them, as they preferred not to hear such inside information from the industry. The entire kitchen was occupied only by Chi Nan and Liang Sixu; it was very quiet both upstairs and downstairs, with only the two of them speaking.

“I have nothing to talk to you about,” Chi Nan said, wanting to walk out of the kitchen, but he was stopped by Liang Sixu.

“Don’t you want to know why Chaoyun is so angry about my appearance? Don’t you want to know why I can evoke such strong emotions in him?”

Chi Nan really wanted to say no, not at all. He wanted to push open the door, wanting to get out of the kitchen, but his hands seemed to be bewitched, unable to push open that door. Chi Nan trapped himself inside that door.

“Speak, what do you want to say? I’m listening.”

Constantly avoiding was not a solution. Liang Sixu came prepared; he simply wanted to see him defeated and covered in wounds, but Chi Nan didn’t want to fulfill his wishes.

“Chaoyun has always resented me because we had agreed that we would both develop in the entertainment industry together. He would act, and I would sing. In the future, the theme songs for the TV dramas he starred in would be sung by me. But later, I broke my promise and went abroad. So Chaoyun resents me for running away. He’s just throwing a tantrum with me. I don’t know when he found you. Now that I’m back, it’s time for Chaoyun to come back too. Someone of his status can’t just let anyone cling to him.”

Liang Sixu crossed his arms, adopting a confident posture, a display of a successful person. Before returning to China, he had investigated Chi Nan; he needed to know about anyone who appeared around Fu Chaoyun, because an unidentified person might endanger Chaoyun’s personal safety. Although he was abroad, he knew everything about Fu Chaoyun in China very clearly.

What Chi Nan heard, especially the phrase “anyone,” made his hands clench involuntarily.

“I’m not just anyone. Uncle Fu is my boyfriend.”

“Ha, boyfriend? Do you think someone of your status is worthy of Chaoyun? You probably don’t even know who Fu Chaoyun is, do you? He’s the son of Fu Cheng. Do you think his father would let someone of unclear origins, who doesn’t even know where his father is, enter the Fu family’s door?”

Liang Sixu smiled contemptuously, completely lacking the grace he had shown that morning. His purpose in coming here was simple: to win back Fu Chaoyun. What kind of person was Fu Chaoyun? He had known Fu Chaoyun for over twenty years. Why should he be snatched away by Chi Nan, who came from nowhere and took advantage of his absence to sneak in? He really had played a good hand.

“Who are you saying has unclear origins?”

Chi Nan turned his head. He could tolerate Liang Sixu saying other things about him, but what did “unclear origins” mean? How were his origins unclear?

“You, who else could I be talking about? It’s best not to have any designs on Chaoyun. You don’t really think Chaoyun likes you, do you? You’re still young and not bad-looking. It’s not hard to find someone who likes you. Why do you have to get involved with Fu Chaoyun? You may not have seen my methods before, but you should know the Liang family, right? Our families have been friends for generations. If you insist on approaching Fu Chaoyun, I can only resort to some inhumane methods. Just be careful.”

Liang Sixu patted Chi Nan’s shoulder and then walked out of the kitchen, leaving Chi Nan alone in the kitchen, completely defeated. At this moment, Chi Nan looked at the bowl of sobering soup and suddenly felt it was an eyesore. His good intentions, his full of joy, had turned into self-abasement in Liang Sixu’s eyes. When had he, Chi Nan, become so fragile, that Liang Sixu’s words had disturbed his mind? This was not his style.

Chi Nan picked up the sobering soup and poured it directly into the sink, then washed his hands. Liang Sixu wanted him to let go, but even if he wanted to let go, he would ask Uncle Fu himself first. They hadn’t broken up yet, so how could he retreat first?

“Oh, right, you probably don’t know yet.”

Liang Sixu, who had left, returned to the kitchen at some point, saying to Chi Nan rather playfully.

“Your promiscuous father might have found you a stepmother. Since your father is so promiscuous, won’t you be any better?”

After Liang Sixu finished speaking, he sized Chi Nan up and down. The provocative meaning in his eyes was very obvious, and the words “With your kind of background, what makes you think you can compete with me? Are you worthy of Fu Chaoyun?” were written all over his face. Every word Liang Sixu said was a reminder to Chi Nan: “Are you a match for Fu Chaoyun? Before approaching Fu Chaoyun, shouldn’t you first look in the mirror?”
