HUFT Chapter 44
by VolareChapter 44
Su Xi was checking the final cut. If there were no problems, she would send it to Fu Chaoyun’s team. If she couldn’t get the 30 million, these photos would appear on major headlines, and Fu Chaoyun’s popularity would soar to another level. However, she was clever and photoshopped her own face out of all of them.
While Su Xi was checking the final cut, she heard the sound of a car. Then, she heard a series of crashes, and a group of people rushed in. Su Xi panicked. Still holding the photos, she was subdued on the ground.
“Who are you people?”
Su Xi tried to protect the film, but the people who rushed in snatched it from her hands without a word and packed up the camera.
“Let go of me!”
Su Xi was still struggling.
“Behave yourself.”
Su Xi’s hair was now disheveled.
After getting out of the car, Chi Nan ran quickly into the warehouse and saw Uncle Fu unconscious on the bed.
“Uncle Fu!”
Chi Nan lunged forward, shaking Fu Chaoyun’s arm, but no matter how much he shook him, he wouldn’t wake up.
Gu Jingnan scanned the scene when he entered, then walked to Chi Nan’s side to check on Fu Chaoyun.
“He’s not in any serious danger. It seems like he was just overdosed. Take him to the hospital to get checked out.”
Chi Nan felt relieved after Gu Jingnan said that. Gu Jingnan then walked over to Su Xi and looked at her. The woman’s hair was now disheveled, her clothes were in disarray, and her makeup was a mess.
“Take this person back.”
Gu Jingnan pointed at Su Xi, and someone immediately responded.
“Yes, sir.”
Chi Nan looked back. Gu Jingnan appeared to be in his forties, but he looked incredibly young. Someone took Fu Chaoyun to the hospital, with Little Zhu following along first. Chi Nan found an opportunity to talk to Gu Jingnan.
The scene was a bit chaotic, but Gu Jingnan’s men cleaned it up and took away the evidence. As they were putting Su Xi into the car, Chi Nan called out, “Wait.”
“Are you here to laugh at me?”
Su Xi wore a coat. Her clothes were unwearable, but she maintained a haughty posture.
“No.”
Chi Nan said, looking at Su Xi’s stomach. Her lower abdomen was slightly bulging, though not very obvious.
“Do fewer immoral things and accumulate some virtue for your future child.”
Chi Nan said. Su Xi sneered after hearing this.
“How noble can you be? Aren’t you just thriving by clinging to Fu Chaoyun’s thigh? We’re all the same. What right do you have to lecture me? Are you worthy?”
Su Xi was now somewhat frantic, her arms restrained as she shouted at Chi Nan. What right did Chi Nan have to lecture her? They were just birds of a feather. Su Xi had simply followed the wrong person. Why was Chi Nan acting so superior and ordering her around? Was Chi Nan worthy?
“We’re not the same.”
“How are we different? I’ve worked hard in this industry for so many years, and I’ve already won the Best Actress award. But that man, he wanted me to marry him, and I did. But he broke the law, and I lost all my money. He kept threatening me. I finally broke up with him, and I was about to start over in this industry. But what happened? I was eliminated by this industry. I sold favors and pleaded to find a new big shot, but he wanted me to have a child for him. I didn’t want to, and he threatened me. What could I do? You can just cling to Fu Chaoyun’s thigh with your pretty face, but what about me? What about me?”
Su Xi frantically shouted at Chi Nan, completely losing the demeanor of a former award-winning actress. She was becoming more like a bitter woman than a respected senior in the industry.
“Your situation today is all of your own making. What’s the point of blaming others? You were wrong to begin with. Why compound your mistakes?”
Chi Nan said calmly. He had seen many people like Su Xi, who insisted on dragging others down with them, not content with ruining themselves. Such people were beyond redemption.
“I was wrong? Would I be wrong if they didn’t threaten me? Would I be wrong? I was just desperate. I just wanted some money. I just wanted to escape this industry. Fu Chaoyun is so rich, couldn’t he give me 30 million? Couldn’t he? Waaaa…”
By the end, Su Xi’s tears and snot were mixed on her face, and her hair was plastered to her face. She faced the world with a crazed expression.
“You reap what you sow. All that awaits you is prison life.”
Chi Nan said and turned to leave. He could hear Su Xi still shouting behind him. It was truly pitiful. A former award-winning actress, a beautiful woman, had ended up in such a state. But what was there to pity? From the moment she schemed against others, she was destined to lose.
“You’re living quite clearly.”
Gu Jingnan said. Chi Nan didn’t know when Gu Jingnan had appeared beside him, but he was grateful for this man’s help today.
“Thank you for today. I don’t even know your name.”
“Gu Jingnan.”
Chi Nan nodded after hearing that.
“You look just like your mother.”
Looking at Chi Nan’s face, Gu Jingnan couldn’t help but think of Chi Ruyue.
“You knew my mother?”
“I did. Your grandfather gave me your phone number. How is your grandfather doing?”
“He’s already passed away.”
Chi Nan said calmly.
“I’m sorry.”
Chi Nan didn’t feel there was anything to apologize for. He didn’t say much more to Gu Jingnan before Little Zhu called out to him. They had come together, and Little Zhu had been taking care of Fu Chaoyun in the car. Now that everything was over, they needed to take Fu Chaoyun to the hospital.
While Little Zhu was taking care of Fu Chaoyun, Fu Shi called. Little Zhu briefly explained what had happened, assuring her that they had found him and she didn’t need to worry too much, and that they were on their way to the hospital.
Chi Nan and Little Zhu got into the car and took Fu Chaoyun to a nearby hospital. Su Xi was left to be dealt with by those men. Chi Nan heard someone call Gu Jingnan “Sir,” and it was most appropriate to leave such matters to them, especially since they could also control the news.
At the hospital, Fu Chaoyun was sent to the emergency room. Little Zhu contacted the production team to let them know that they had found him and were at the hospital. Chi Nan sat in a chair and waited.
About half an hour later, the doctor came out of the emergency room. They had given Fu Chaoyun a stomach pump to remove the unclean substances. He should wake up after resting. Chi Nan was relieved and stayed at the hospital with Little Zhu to take care of Fu Chaoyun.
In the hospital room, the smell of disinfectant permeated the air. Fu Chaoyun moved his fingers, feeling a blankness in his mind. After waking up and resting for a moment, he remembered what he had gone through.
