Chapter 40

After a night of thorough conversation, Chi Nan didn’t deliberately avoid Uncle Fu during the filming the next day. He would even secretly hold Uncle Fu’s hand when the cameras weren’t rolling and offer him the candies he had on him.

Fu Chaoyun found this both amusing and exasperating. He wanted Chi Nan to be less evasive of him in front of the cameras, but he didn’t expect the effect of his “education” to be so extreme. Chi Nan would win small prizes in the games and stuff them into Fu Chaoyun’s hands. Before the filming was even over, Fu Chaoyun’s pockets were overflowing.

“Don’t give me any more, there’s no room left,” Fu Chaoyun said.

During a filming break, Fu Chaoyun found Chi Nan and showed him his pockets, which were bulging with candy, snacks, and some small toys that Chi Nan had found from who-knows-where.

“I was just afraid Uncle Fu would be hungry. I saw you didn’t eat much this morning, and I was afraid you’d be bored during the games.”

Chi Nan hadn’t realized he had given Uncle Fu so much stuff. He had just seen that Uncle Fu didn’t have much of an appetite in the morning and ate very little. He was afraid that Uncle Fu would feel unwell due to low blood sugar, so he gave Uncle Fu some candy. At first, Uncle Fu couldn’t seem to get into the spirit of the games, so Chi Nan gave him whatever small toys he could find nearby.

“I was just too tired. The filming started too early today, that’s why I wasn’t energetic. No more stuffing, my pockets are going to burst.”

Fu Chaoyun sounded sleepy. He had gone to bed a bit late the night before, and he was a light sleeper in new places. The filming schedule was so brutal that they had to get up at six in the morning. Fu Chaoyun leaned against Chi Nan’s shoulder, closing his eyes to rest for a moment.

“Okay, no more stuffing,” Chi Nan said.

Chi Nan stuck out his tongue. He hadn’t expected to give him so much.

“Do you want a watermelon-flavored candy?” Fu Chaoyun asked.

“Watermelon flavor? Do you want one, Uncle Fu?”

Fu Chaoyun leaned against Chi Nan’s shoulder and swayed slightly. Chi Nan started searching through Uncle Fu’s pockets, but he couldn’t find one after a long search.

“There’s no watermelon flavor, Uncle Fu,” Chi Nan said.

“I’m asking if *you* want to eat one.” Fu Chaoyun opened his eyes and looked at Chi Nan.

“I want to, but there aren’t any. I’ll just have an orange-flavored one.”

Chi Nan found an orange-flavored candy in Fu Chaoyun’s pocket and was about to tear open the wrapper when he heard Fu Chaoyun continue to ask, “What do you mean there aren’t any? Look here.”

Chi Nan followed Fu Chaoyun’s gaze and looked into the pocket. He had already searched it once and there was definitely no watermelon flavor. Could it be that Uncle Fu was teasing him? But when Chi Nan looked up, he smelled a watermelon scent that spread in his mouth. Fu Chaoyun had just lightly kissed Chi Nan’s lips. He couldn’t kiss him too deeply, or they might get photographed.

“Isn’t this watermelon flavor? Don’t you like the candy you bought yourself?”

Fu Chaoyun kissed Chi Nan, feeling refreshed. It was as if he had swept away all the fatigue of the day. Now, he could be said to be full of energy and vitality.

“I’m never buying candy for Uncle Fu again,” Chi Nan said somewhat sulkily.

Although Chi Nan said that, he didn’t really mean it. If Uncle Fu didn’t eat breakfast and got low blood sugar, he would still buy candy for Uncle Fu. However, the watermelon-flavored candy, which had taken advantage of him, was now blacklisted by Chi Nan.

When the two returned to the filming location, they were just about to start. Chi Nan and Fu Chaoyun came back together and continued filming the show.

The filming the next day was only for half a day, but during the filming, Chi Nan could clearly feel a burning gaze fixed on him. The source of the gaze was Su Xi. Chi Nan didn’t know this movie queen and had no chance to interact with her. He hadn’t done anything recently that would attract the attention of this movie queen, so why was she always looking at him?

Chi Nan was puzzled, but he quietly suppressed the doubt in his heart. Su Xi was indeed a movie queen, but that was from a few years ago. After her husband was exposed for drug use a few years ago, her position in the industry became very awkward. Although she had divorced in a timely manner and clarified that she was unaware of these matters, her position in the industry plummeted. Although she was a movie queen, she couldn’t get roles in truly big-budget dramas, and she looked down on small-budget ones. This also led to Su Xi having to work hard to get into this program.

    “What are you looking at?”

After the program filming, some of the guests were picked up by their assistants’ cars. Chi Nan and the other non-celebrities naturally had to go back on their own, so Fu Chaoyun came back to pick up Chi Nan, noticing that Chi Nan had been spacing out.

    “It’s nothing, let’s go.”

Chi Nan didn’t tell Uncle Fu about this matter. It wasn’t that he was deliberately keeping it from Uncle Fu, he just felt that this matter hadn’t caused him any harm yet. He didn’t know if the other person was a friend or foe. If he was going to tell Uncle Fu, he would have to wait until he had figured things out a bit more.

The day after Chi Nan went back, he first made an appointment with Dr. Lu Cheng. He had always wanted to help Uncle Fu improve his sleep problems. The program filming was on Monday, and after filming for two days, Chi Nan got up early on Wednesday and took a taxi to the hospital.

When Chi Nan arrived at the hospital, he met Lu Cheng, who recognized Chi Nan from the moment he appeared. Chi Nan sat down in the chair, but before Chi Nan could speak, Lu Cheng poured Chi Nan a glass of water and placed it in front of him, taking the initiative to chat with Chi Nan. The two people’s conversation was somewhat like that of familiar friends.

    “You’ve come,” Lu Cheng said.

Chi Nan nodded and then slowly opened his mouth.

“I heard Uncle Fu say that my voice might improve Uncle Fu’s condition. You are his attending doctor and have been following his condition. I want to know what I can do to help Uncle Fu recover to the greatest extent.”

As a doctor, Lu Cheng shouldn’t disclose Fu Chaoyun’s condition to outsiders, but this Chi Nan was obviously not an outsider.

Lu Cheng first instructed his assistant to reschedule the patients behind him to other doctors, and then chatted with Chi Nan.

“His illness, broadly speaking, is a psychological illness. However, his psychological illness should have been cured over the years. The subjective factor that he can’t sleep may lie in himself. Even if we want to cure this illness, we are all outsiders. The most important thing is for him to rely on himself. I heard him mention to me that your voice has a hypnotic effect on him.”

“To a certain extent, this is called voice compatibility, which means he is very sensitive to your voice. I suggest that if he can hear your voice every day, then stop taking medication for the time being, but this situation should be impossible at the moment.”

“Doesn’t the sound from electronic devices work either?”

“The effect is not as direct as that kind of effect. If he gets used to it, hearing your voice later may backfire.”
