HUFT Chapter 14
by VolareChapter 14
Chi Nan was overjoyed.
“So, does that mean you’ve agreed, Uncle Fu? You can’t go back on your word.”
“Mm.”
Fu Chaoyun hummed in agreement, his heart softening in the end, unable to bear the child’s aggrieved voice.
“It’s late. Don’t you have class tomorrow? Go get some rest.”
“Okay, good night, Uncle Fu.”
“Good night.”
After Chi Nan hung up the phone, he was filled with joy, his happiness radiating even as he returned from the balcony to his bed. If he didn’t have class tomorrow, he would have wanted to talk to Uncle Fu some more. Besides, Uncle Fu’s voice was very nice.
But? How did Uncle Fu know he had class tomorrow, that he was a student?
Chi Nan recalled that he had mentioned to Uncle Fu that he was nineteen, the age to be in school, so it was normal for Uncle Fu to guess that he was a student.
Chi Nan felt that this was quite reasonable and didn’t dwell on it further, happily going to sleep. In Chi Nan’s opinion, he would definitely have a good night’s sleep.
After Fu Chaoyun hung up the phone, he looked at the night sky. The moon seemed particularly beautiful tonight, and the kid seemed quite happy after talking to him. If he really liked him, he should find a time to be honest. But before being honest, he wanted to know the kid’s sexual orientation.
Chi Nan had class the next morning, but no class in the afternoon. After getting up, washing, eating, and attending class, he started drawing. Around four in the afternoon, he had a rough draft and sent it directly to Teacher Chen. Teacher Chen replied quickly, offering some suggestions for revisions. By around six in the afternoon, the final draft was ready, and the other students were about to start working on the painting.
The time was tight, and the task was heavy. Everything had to be prepared before the centennial celebration, and there were rehearsals and such. The actual painting time was only about ten days, so several groups started working simultaneously, using a canvas that was fifteen meters long and two meters wide. When Chi Nan had free time after class, he would go and see if he could help in any way, assisting with the painting to reduce the burden.
Because he was busy these past few days, Chi Nan only called Uncle Fu at night to tell him about his day. Most of the time, Chi Nan was talking, and Fu Chaoyun was listening, sometimes responding with a word or two. Chi Nan felt that it was nice to have Uncle Fu listen to him like this, to have someone to share trivial things with.
“Blogger, I’m sorry, kneeling.”
Chi Nan finally had some free time in the evening and logged into his long-neglected Weibo account. Only then did he realize that his private messages had piled up to a ridiculous extent.
The person who sent Chi Nan the private message was the client who had previously commissioned the Fu Chaoyun drawing. She was directly kneeling in apology, which left him a bit puzzled. He replied with, “What’s wrong?”
Chi Nan looked at his private messages again. Most of them were scolding him, telling him not to easily get involved in fandom matters. A small minority praised him. Chi Nan was confused and then received a reply from the previous client.
“Blogger, I put the picture you drew on Weibo, using the words ‘limited girlfriend.’ I originally thought we were all Fu Ge’s girlfriends, but somehow it spread. Although I added a watermark, the picture was altered and became ‘boyfriend and Fu Ge,’ and it said Fu Ge likes men. But I really don’t know how it spread. Many people are scolding me for bringing trouble to Fu Ge, but I really didn’t. I definitely posted the original picture. When I posted the original picture, I tagged you, and they scolded you too. I’m so sorry. I’ve already deleted the drawing, and I’m planning to leave the fandom soon. I’ve liked Fu Ge for so long, but now I’ve caused you to be scolded.”
“I posted the original picture. I don’t know who tampered with it. Now the term ‘Fu Ge is gay’ is trending on the hot search. I’m almost crying. I’ve harmed Fu Ge and harmed you, blogger. I’ll commit suicide to apologize.”
After Chi Nan finished reading the private message from the client, he realized that they were both victims of unprovoked disaster. Moreover, the client herself was already so miserable, so he had no reason to blame her.
“It’s okay. Let me take a look first.”
“Blogger, thank you for understanding.”
Chi Nan chatted with the client for a few more words and then went to look at the altered picture. The female fan he drew was slightly altered to become a male fan, not only putting Fu Chaoyun on the hot search but also implicating him, the original artist.
Chi Nan could only sigh. He posted a statement on his Weibo, clarifying that he had drawn a female fan, and attached the original picture. As soon as the statement was posted, people commented on Chi Nan, telling him not to draw things carelessly if he didn’t understand fandom culture, and other unpleasant things. Chi Nan replied to a few of them, but ultimately, his voice was drowned out in the sea of comments. One person’s ability was ultimately limited. Chi Nan was truly speechless. The fans these days were really too crazy.
After posting the Weibo post, Chi Nan ignored it. The more he looked, the angrier he got. The number of people scolding him would definitely only increase. His statement was useless, so he simply sent a message to Uncle Fu. After Chi Nan’s crazy brainwashing of Uncle Fu these past few days, Fu Chaoyun was already somewhat used to the kid’s calls. If he suddenly didn’t receive one, he would feel a little unaccustomed. Around nine o’clock, Fu Chaoyun’s phone rang.
“Hello.”
“Uncle Fu, I’m being scolded.”
Chi Nan was aggrieved. When had he ever suffered such an indignity? After the statement was posted, he could feel his private messages and comments exploding.
“What happened?”
Fu Chaoyun frowned upon hearing that Chi Nan was being scolded, afraid that Chi Nan would feel uncomfortable.
“It’s not a big deal. It’s just that today when I logged into Weibo, I saw a lot of people sending me private messages to scold me.”
“Why are they scolding you?”
“It’s because a few days ago, a client commissioned a drawing from me, I told you about it, it was a drawing of Fu Chaoyun. As a result, after the client posted it, the picture was altered, and I was scolded by Fu Chaoyun’s fans, along with her.”
“You said whose fans?”
Fu Chaoyun suspected there was something wrong with his ears. His fans scolded the person he was planning to pursue?
“Fu Chaoyun’s. I thought this person was pretty good before, but I didn’t expect his fans to be so unruly. It seems Fu Chaoyun isn’t much better, hmph.”
Because Chi Nan was angry, his words were somewhat unreserved. Moreover, he believed that Uncle Fu probably didn’t even know who Fu Chaoyun was, so he spoke freely, saying whatever he wanted.
“But actually, you can’t blame Fu Chaoyun’s fans. If the person I liked was put on a hot search that shouldn’t be there, I would definitely be angry too. I understand it somewhat. It’s just, it’s quite upsetting.”
Chi Nan was quite angry just now, feeling that he was just a victim of unprovoked disaster, suddenly being scolded by so many people. What right did they have? He hadn’t done anything wrong. But thinking about it from another perspective, Fu Chaoyun hadn’t done anything wrong either. He probably didn’t even know he was implicated in this matter, so Chi Nan felt relieved. After a few days, when the heat died down, it should be fine.
