Chapter 12

After Fu Chaoyun finished eating at his sister Fu Shi’s house, he returned to Huai Hai Apartments alone. He had originally planned to take Wen Ci out to play, but she hadn’t finished her homework and was ruthlessly confined to her room by Fu Shi to complete it. However, before leaving, Wen Ci grabbed his sleeve and whispered to him.

“Uncle, you used to say I use these boring apps, but I think you’re enjoying using it quite a bit. You’re chatting with Nanchi Rujiang quite well.”

Wen Ci looked smug, as if she had caught him red-handed.

“Study hard, mind your own business.”

Fu Chaoyun poked Wen Ci’s forehead with his finger, urging her to study hard.

“Hmph, Uncle, you’re just a liar, you like him but won’t admit it.”

Finally, under Fu Shi’s sharp gaze, Wen Ci had no choice but to give up and go back to her room to study. When Fu Chaoyun took the elevator to the garage, he checked his phone. As expected, that girl Wen Ci had chatted with Chi Nan, but not much, and hadn’t revealed Fu Chaoyun’s identity.

Now, Fu Chaoyun felt like he was deceiving a child. What kind of person did Chi Nan think “Uncle Fu” was? And what were his own feelings about that one meeting? Without a doubt, the boy’s appearance was very much to his liking. If he were to pursue Chi Nan one day, would Chi Nan agree? He didn’t even know Chi Nan’s sexual orientation.

This thought made Fu Chaoyun feel somewhat defeated. And as for himself, did he really like Chi Nan? He had never been very interested in women, and had known early on that he liked men. Over the years, he had seen all sorts of people in the entertainment industry, and there were many who were more attractive than Chi Nan. But honestly, Chi Nan was indeed the first person Fu Chaoyun had ever wanted to get close to, to hold in his arms and whisper sweet nothings to. That was his desire. What were Chi Nan’s thoughts?

“Will it scare him away?” [Note: Information about the “Yuxi Team” and their work which I will omit per your prior instructions.]

Fu Chaoyun’s mind was a mess. After all, he believed in love at first sight. In such a short time, he could be sure it was love, but he was afraid of scaring Chi Nan away. He needed to give himself a period of calm. If he really liked the boy, he would have to give it a try.

So, when Fu Chaoyun returned home from the garage, he first took a shower. Taking a shower could relax his mind. He restrained himself from sending Chi Nan a message.

Chi Nan had been in the dorm all day, trying to finish the painting for the centennial celebration. He revised and redrew, but didn’t finish it even after a whole day. In the evening, Chi Nan’s three roommates returned. The first to return was Zhang Fang.

“Nannan, I brought beer eggs. My mom specifically told me to bring them for you.”

Zhang Fang handed the eggs to Chi Nan as soon as he came in, then put down his own luggage.

    “Thank you, Auntie.”

Chi Nan smiled and took the beer eggs from Zhang Fang’s hand.

“My mom is still talking about you, asking why I didn’t bring you back with me during the May Day holiday.”

After putting away his luggage, Zhang Fang pulled up a chair and sat next to Chi Nan, watching him paint.

    “What are you painting?”

“It’s a painting for the art department’s centennial celebration. They asked me to paint it.”

Chi Nan finished the last stroke. What remained were the more detailed parts. Another roommate, Jiang Chen, also returned and brought some food for Chi Nan.

“You’re all bringing me food, are you worried I won’t eat well in the dorm?”

Jiang Chen brought some snacks for Chi Nan.

When Chen Haoran came in, he also brought local specialties from their hometown, and he brought some for the other two as well. Before long, Chi Nan’s desk was piled up like a small mountain.

Chi Nan felt a little helpless. Were his roommates afraid he would starve to death in the dorm during the five-day holiday? It was almost like they were feeding a pig.

Chi Nan had a total of three roommates: Zhang Fang, Jiang Chen, and Chen Haoran. Zhang Fang and Jiang Chen were locals, while Chen Haoran was from H City next door. Chi Nan was the youngest of the four. The other three usually took good care of Chi Nan. Zhang Fang’s mother had met Chi Nan once when she came to the school to drop Zhang Fang off. The other three all had big bags and small packages, while Chi Nan was alone, so Zhang Fang’s mother kept it in mind, and usually asked Zhang Fang to bring something for Chi Nan when he went home.

Chi Nan was very grateful. The four of them got along well. Although they weren’t in the same major, they usually didn’t have any major conflicts and often went out to eat together.

    “What are you painting?”

Jiang Chen put down his luggage and came to Chi Nan’s side. Among the four of them, Jiang Chen was the least talkative, but he had a cold face and a warm heart. Chi Nan initially thought this person was particularly difficult to get along with, but he slowly discovered that Jiang Chen was just a little sullen; he was good in other aspects. And Zhang Fang, on the other hand, was more outgoing and, being a physical education major, was quite sociable.

The last roommate, Chen Haoran, was somewhere in between the two of them, but he spoke less than Zhang Fang and more than Jiang Chen, but he was very enthusiastic.

“It’s a painting for the school’s centennial celebration. Our department asked me to do it. What does your department plan to do?”

Chi Nan turned to ask Jiang Chen.

“I don’t know. I asked the teacher to find someone else. I don’t have time to do these things.”

Hearing Jiang Chen’s answer, Chi Nan felt it was quite “Versailles.” He knew Jiang Chen wasn’t interested in these things, but he didn’t expect him to be so uninterested.

“It’s been a while since our dorm had a meal together. Nannan must have been busy lately, so why don’t we go out to eat?”

The suggestion to eat out came from Zhang Fang. Chi Nan was the first to agree. Thinking about it, it had been so long since school started, and the four of them happened to have time, so it would be nice to go out to eat. It was also dinnertime. If he got busy with the centennial celebration in a few days, he probably wouldn’t have time to eat.

    “Okay, let’s go then.”

    “I have no objections.”

Jiang Chen glanced at Zhang Fang and Chi Nan.

    “Me neither.”

    Chen Haoran said, following behind.

“Then let’s go. I’ll call the proprietress to reserve a spot.”

Zhang Fang picked up his phone and started texting the proprietress. Chi Nan finished setting up his tablet and glanced at his phone. He sent a message to Uncle Fu. They hadn’t communicated for so long, not since this morning, and Uncle Fu hadn’t taken the initiative to contact him. Oh well, he would just tell Uncle Fu that he was going to have dinner.

Because his roommates were all around, Chi Nan typed directly.

Just as Chi Nan sent the message, he received a reply from Uncle Fu.

    [Go ahead]

When Chi Nan received the message, he pouted. He thought Uncle Fu was really indifferent. So Chi Nan typed a reply.

[Uncle Fu, why don’t you ask me what I’m eating? Why are you eating so late?]

Chi Nan typed. It was one thing that he hadn’t contacted him all day, but his reply was so cold. How was it the same as when they first met?
