Chapter 74: Pickled Eggs Are the Most Important

Since that day, Lu You hadn’t seen the green dress that ruined her sleep for a night at the small Western-style house. She casually asked about the young nanny.

Zhong Shuyun said, “The nanny’s daughter has an exam, so she took a leave.”

Lu You joked to herself, “What a coincidence, I have an exam too. How old is the nanny’s daughter?”

Zhong Shuyun pressed a key on the piano beside her, studying how to improve this set of fingerings, and replied without thinking, “About your age.”

Lu You was a little surprised, “I thought she was a middle or high school student. What is she taking?”

Zhong Shuyun held down the piano key for a long time, and the “si” sound of the seventh note was like some sharp object scratching in the air.

    Lu You looked up, puzzled.

Zhong Shuyun suddenly released her hand, glanced at her, and after a moment of silence, opened her mouth and said, “Adult college entrance examination.”

Lu You nodded, admiring the nanny’s daughter, “Amazing, it’s not easy to return to textbooks after entering society.”

Zhong Shuyun said, “Aren’t you the same? It’s not easy to pick up the piano that you had to give up. You are also amazing.”

Lu You smiled, “It seems so.”

Zhong Shuyun raised her eyebrows and said affirmatively, “It is.”

    The competition was approaching.

Lu You devoted herself wholeheartedly to preparing for the competition, and had no time to take care of other things. She quickly threw the anxiety of that night behind her.

Every day, she cycled between adjusting fingerings, practicing piano and memorizing scores, working out, visiting Chen Feifei, or going to Lost Deer to check on the operation.

And the gaps in between were filled by Yue Yunxi.

When Yue Yunxi didn’t have to teach at the music academy, she would accompany her to the small Western-style house for lessons.

She also helped her transport some small items over first. Although the ownership hadn’t been transferred yet, it was basically settled, and Zhong Shuyun let her move things over first.

Every time she put an item into a room, Yue Yunxi would stay there, and when she rested, she would come to her and steal moments of intimacy with her, their lips and teeth intertwined.

It was a house that had not yet been transferred, and sometimes Grandma Zhong and Zhong Mi were there, just outside, thinking they were just sisters.

Lu You had a sense of forbidden immorality, which always made the memories of these entangled kisses more profound.

She felt that Yue Yunxi was doing it on purpose.

So that she wouldn’t only think of their intense kisses when entering that bathroom.

As if an animal entered a new space and left its scent, Yue Yunxi used kisses to add a thick and colorful stroke to the entire house in her mind.

When Yue Yunxi had to go to teach, Lu You would finish her lessons early and pick her up from work, and then go to the gym together.

Every time she picked up Yue Yunxi, Lu You would go to the flower shop in advance to pick a bunch of fresh cut flowers, because she knew Yue Yunxi liked them.

She also liked them very much, liked the joy of holding flowers to pick up her girlfriend from work, and even more liked the moment when Yue Yunxi smiled when receiving the flowers.

    It was like good weather.

After going there many times, she became familiar with everyone in the class. All the students thought they were sisters, and the more outgoing students would joke when they saw her, “Teacher Yue’s sister is here again to give her sister flowers and pick her up from work!”

The feeling of open and aboveboard intertwined with sneaking around was an itch that was gently scratched.

She enjoyed this intimacy, but occasionally she would sourly think that Yue Yunxi’s real “sister” was someone else.

    She was the girlfriend.

Lu You thought that after the competition, she had to carefully plan to bring this relationship out into the open.

A younger sister who doesn’t want to rise to become a wife is not a good sister.

Two days before the competition, Lu You went to pick up Yue Yunxi from work and stopped by Lost Deer.

    An interlude occurred –

A customer named “Eleven”, who was almost forgotten by her, left her a package file bag.

That day, a couple had a breakup and was arguing in the store. The acting store manager was busy mediating, and only one newly hired employee was left at the bar. The little girl was simple-minded and didn’t think much about it, so she took it directly. After receiving it, she forgot about it until she heard the acting store manager call Lu You “Boss Lu” and then remembered it.

Yue Yunxi asked her, “Who is Eleven?”

Lu You told Yue Yunxi about this strange customer.

At the same time, the acting store manager was scolding the little girl next to her, making her teary-eyed, “You accepted it without asking! What if there are bombs or harmful objects inside?”

The shadow left by the stalker was still there, and when Lu You heard the acting store manager’s words again, she didn’t even think about opening the file bag to take a look.

She sent a WeChat message to the customer and asked her to take it back when she had time, and asked the store manager to find a disused wine barrel and put it inside, lest it suddenly explode one day.

Yue Yunxi was amused by her and asked, “Why don’t you just throw it away?”

“That wouldn’t be good,” Lu You said, “What if she wants to take it back?”

Yue Yunxi said, “She won’t take it back.” Her tone was certain.

“How do you know?” Lu You asked.

“Just guessing,” Yue Yunxi said, “This thing has been here for more than a week. She has your WeChat, but she didn’t notify you that she gave you something, nor did she ask you if you received it. She didn’t contact you at all. Most likely, she doesn’t care what you do with this thing. Or rather, she knows that if you look at it, she will definitely contact you. If you don’t look at it, it doesn’t matter. If she wants you to see it, she should send another copy in a while.”

Lu You: “You analyzed it a bit scary, like a scene in a suspense movie.”

Yue Yunxi asked with a smile, “Did she reply to you?”

Lu You took out her phone and glanced at it, shaking her head, “No, let her be. If she doesn’t reply in another week, I’ll throw it away, lest the thing explodes.”

Yue Yunxi leaned on the bar, her shoulders trembling with laughter. When the laughter subsided, she leisurely reminded, “Remember to tell your little employees not to accept unexplained objects again.”

The little employee was scolded miserably by the store manager.

When they were about to leave, the little girl was still shedding tears. Lu You couldn’t bear it, so she handed her a pack of tissues and comforted her a few words.

Yue Yunxi took the opportunity to ask, “Was that customer male or female? What did she look like?”

“Female, short hair.” The little girl glanced at Lu You and said, “About half a head taller than Boss Lu, very thin. She wore a baseball cap and a mask, so you couldn’t see her face.”

“You couldn’t even see her face, and you still dared to accept her things!” The acting store manager heard this and started educating the little girl again, “You’re dressed like a Korean drama killer, aren’t you afraid she’ll pull out something from the file bag and give you a knife?”

The little girl was so frightened that she started shedding small pearls again.

Lu You seriously suspected that the store manager had been watching too many Korean dramas recently.

Everything about this store manager was good, except that her temperament was especially like that of a high school dean.

Sometimes even Lu You and Chen Feifei would be scolded by her when they made mistakes.

Unable to stop the acting store manager’s heartfelt education of the employee, Lu You could only protect her own ears first and pull Yue Yunxi away.

On the way to the gate, Lu You was a little distracted.

Yue Yunxi noticed and asked what she was thinking.

Lu You thought about it and confessed, “Actually, I suspected that this Eleven might be Tao Xin.”

    Yue Yunxi raised her eyebrows.

“I’m not sure, every time she asks me if I’m going to the store. I thought she might be a customer, so it’s not good to leave her there unattended,” Lu You explained.

“I didn’t say anything,” Yue Yunxi said amusingly.

“Look at the moon outside, look at how she doesn’t say anything, doesn’t she look like an egg soaked in vinegar?”

Yue Yunxi was both amused and annoyed, put her arm around her shoulder and locked her throat.

Lu You laughed so hard that it resonated in her arm.

“Don’t you suspect it now?” Yue Yunxi could only use the topic to stop her laughter.

“Taller than me, and short hair, these two points don’t match,” Lu You grabbed Yue Yunxi’s hand on her shoulder and said, counting one finger at a time, “And Tao Xin’s timbre is special, the little girl didn’t mention this at all.”

Yue Yunxi curled her fingertips and swallowed the guess of wearing high heels and a wig back into her stomach.

“Most likely I’m overthinking it,” Lu You murmured to herself, “Then who would Eleven be?”

“Is it important to you who she is?” Yue Yunxi asked.

Lu You immediately stopped thinking about it and said with a smile, “Not important.”

She leaned into Yue Yunxi’s ear: “To me, pickled eggs are the most important. Can I eat them as a midnight snack tonight?”

    Yue Yunxi: “…Greedy deer.”

The door opened, and the wind chimes rang in the evening breeze, covering up Lu You’s low laughter and the acting store manager’s spell in the store.

The acting store manager put her hands on her hips and breathed a sigh of relief, took two bottles of mineral water, and handed one to the little girl opposite who was crying with pear blossoms and rain, “Okay, okay, don’t cry. If you accept things randomly next time, my throat will be hoarse.”

The little girl took the mineral water bottle, sniffed, and suddenly heard the prelude to “Edible Wild Herbs” in the store, and was stunned.

“What’s going on!” The store manager trotted over in high heels, lowered her voice and asked the DJ to change the song, “How many times has Sister Feifei said that if she’s not here, you can take it as a grain of salt? You’re not allowed to play this person’s songs in the store, change it quickly!”

The little girl held the mineral water bottle and opened her mouth, “That customer’s voice…”

Unfortunately, no one listened to her, so she silently closed her mouth again.

    ˉ

The location of this competition was in Shanghai. Yue Yunxi, with her rich experience, had booked a hotel a week in advance and suggested that she go there a day early to familiarize herself with the surrounding environment.

Zhong Shuyun arranged the last day of lessons in the morning, and in the afternoon, they went to complete the transfer of ownership.

Lu You originally wanted to give the small Western-style house to her grandmother, because Zhong Shuyun’s pricing was very low. The money she got from Lu Huai’an was more than enough, and she didn’t even need to use her own savings.

Since Lu Huai’an paid all the expenses, she would treat it as a filial piety on behalf of Lu Huai’an to make the old lady happy.

Although Grandma often said that Lu Huai’an was not good, although she had been disappointed many times, the connection of kinship was like this, even if the bones were broken, the tendons were still connected.

Lu You knew that Grandma still had hope for Lu Huai’an, or rather, it should be said that she longed for it.

She longed for this piece of flesh that fell from her body to grow a heart and give her a return.

Lu Huai’an didn’t give it directly, so Lu You could only give it indirectly.

But Grandma didn’t want this kind of return, she waved her hand and output like a machine gun: “If he really had filial piety, you wouldn’t have to work so hard to get money from him. That was originally prepared for you. If you give it to me, aren’t you afraid that your father will come and snatch it from you in the future!

He is unreliable. If you want him to give you something, he is ten million unwilling, but if you have something that he can take away, he has ten million minds, thinking that it is his and must be given to him.

I am already one foot into the coffin, this is useless to me, and don’t give it to me either. If I suddenly disappear one day and don’t have time to write a will, I don’t want you and your father to have to go through those inheritance procedures. I won’t be at peace even when I die.”

Lu You was pinching her nose and peeling off the tin foil outside the roasted durian. Hearing this, she ignored the smell of the durian, turned her head and pulled Grandma, “Hurry up and spit, spit, spit! Why do you always have these words on your lips every day.”

After receiving the real estate certificate, Lu You took Yue Yunxi’s car directly to Shanghai. On the way, she mentioned this matter, “I feel that after the last examination, Grandma is always not very optimistic. It was the same with the trip, she told me that she was afraid that no one would take care of me in the future. Yesterday was the same, she’s not afraid of her words coming true, she doesn’t pay attention at all.”

Yue Yunxi recorded the doctor’s words for her, and it didn’t sound like there was any major problem, at least the bowel cancer hadn’t metastasized at the time.

The reports that were brought back were all professional jargon, so she didn’t understand them very well, but after searching for relevant information, it didn’t seem like there was anything.

Yue Yunxi thought for a while and said, “The old man who was being examined in front of her was told that he didn’t have much time left. She just happened to hear it, maybe it scared her.”

Lu You said “Oh,” “Like that, no wonder.”

She relaxed a little, but still cared a little.

Yue Yunxi glanced at her, reached out and took her hand, and suggested, “After your competition, move into your new house, and have a housewarming party. Invite Feifei…Li Can and the others over, let Feifei relax, and let Grandma play with the young people more, maybe her mentality will be relaxed.”

Lu You completely relaxed and responded with a smile, saying, “I must have saved the galaxy to have such a good girlfriend.”

Yue Yunxi was pleased, chuckled and said, “Then you have to cherish it, don’t lose me.”

Lu You said, “How could I, I’m not stupid.”

Yue Yunxi smiled and didn’t say anything.

The two chatted casually, basically Lu You was talking and Yue Yunxi was listening.

“Teacher Zhong definitely has a Dom attribute, I really do. The cadenza is about to make me vomit. I never thought that Debussy’s Moonlight would make me feel disgusted.” Lu You added, “In the physiological sense.”

She still liked this song very much.

“For a moment, I felt like I was back in my childhood. When I was a child, there was a teacher like this who kept making me play the same part. My mother…” Lu You paused, “Said that the neighbor’s aunt was going to be tortured crazy by me. However, later I saw that aunt, she was very polite to me, I don’t know if it was because she ate fruit.”

She still remembered Tao Xin saying that in order to let her play the piano well, she sent a lot of fruit to the neighbors.

    And the next second.

She heard Yue Yunxi laugh, in an incomparably natural tone.

“Fortunately, Teacher Zhong’s small Western-style house has good soundproofing, otherwise I would have to send fruit everywhere for you again.”
