Chapter 97: The Big Guy Arrives

Things happened too fast, one wave wasn’t settled before another rose, giving people no chance to breathe.

In Fan Liangchang’s house in the upper district, besides Wei Biao and the ability users who left in the morning, everyone else was here, making seven in total.

Jiang Long raged, “What are those patrolling sentries doing? The zombies are right in front of them, and no one raised the alarm.”

Luo Zhengping, sitting in the main seat, said, “Such a thing just happened this morning, and the order is completely messed up. Many people in their posts have left, so news naturally can’t be transmitted normally.”

One person chimed in, “What about the granary? That’s where tasks are assigned, supplies are distributed, and the three districts are coordinated and managed. It has special channels to the three districts. Didn’t anyone notice anything unusual there?”

People started discussing all at once:

“It’s probably fallen a long time ago over there.”

“What are those people doing? They have the richest supplies and the easiest jobs on weekdays, but they’re completely useless at critical moments.”

“Isn’t that right? What’s the most important fortress, the last sanctuary? It’s all bullshit. Who doesn’t know it’s all a bunch of good-for-nothings related to that old guy Fan Liangchang?”

“That kind of place is filled with nepotism. Of course, it’s useless!”

“That sounds good, but you’re pushing yourself completely clean. Don’t you have people in there too!”

“So what if I have people there? My errand boy is useless. Don’t you have people there? Isn’t yours in charge of message contact? The person you pushed up, where is he now? Where did he die?”

“What nonsense are you talking about? Is this one person’s fault? So many people have died!”

Chatter, chatter, except for the occasional timid sound, all the other noises were the ability users barking, getting louder and louder, almost about to start a fight on the table.

“Quiet down, quiet down!” Luo Zhengping slammed the table to stop this chaotic argument. “What are you arguing about? What are you arguing about? Is now the time to find out who’s responsible? Why don’t you hurry up and think of a way to solve the problem? Are you waiting for the zombies to rush in and crack your heads open?”

Jiang Long declared, “Crack my head open? Those weak zombies are worthy? What’s there to think about? Those crispy-skinned zombies outside, the base has only two or three thousand people in total. Each person cuts down hundreds, and wouldn’t that solve the problem easily?”

“Then why didn’t you cut them down just now?”

“Damn, are you expecting me to cut them all down by myself? Each and every one of you scurried away faster than rats. I’m not a fool to clean up your mess for you.” If he really did that, he would either be bitten to death by zombies or die of exhaustion.

Another person echoed, “I think it’s feasible. Killing a few hundred zombies per person isn’t a difficult task. If we kill them all, the remaining supplies in the base will belong to us, and we won’t have to support those thousands of idle mouths anymore. Just us few ability users, how carefree.”

For a time, several people nodded in agreement.

At this moment, a careful girl frowned and said, “Have you forgotten the most important thing? Who infected these zombies?

Also, this morning there were rumors that a powerful zombie quietly sneaked into the base and killed Fan Liangchang. Could that be true? Were these people bitten by that zombie from the beginning?”

An informed ability user said with certainty, “No, that old guy Fan Liangchang exploded himself by absorbing too many crystal cores. It has nothing to do with zombies. Those ignorant people must have mistakenly let an unmutated infected person in. They brought it on themselves, they deserve it!”

    “But…?”

“No ‘buts.’ How could a high-level zombie enter here? If it were even a primary zombie, we would definitely be able to sense it. You’re also an ability user, don’t tell me you can’t sense it!”

“Ooh~! Are you looking for me?”

Suddenly, a hoarse and rough voice came from the roof. Everyone was shocked and looked up. That skinny zombie was standing on the roof beam, staring straight at them.

Its skin, a thin layer covering the withered bones, was so transparent that even the bones and tendons inside could be seen clearly. The blood-red blood vessels crisscrossed, like the body of a three-year-old child whose skin had been peeled off.

Everyone retreated to the door to distance themselves. The seven ability users stood in front, facing the zombie, not daring to act rashly.

“When did it come in? Why didn’t we feel its aura at all?”

“It seems the rumors are true. This guy is not easy to deal with.”

“What are you afraid of? There are seven of us. Can’t we beat one of it?”

Luo Zhengping said seriously, “Don’t underestimate it. It has exceeded our understanding.” Just the fact that it spoke just now had never been seen in other zombies.

The zombie raised its pointed, thin skeleton hand with interest and licked it. The sharp nails looked very powerful.

It twisted its neck twice, and something terrifying seemed to wriggle in the blood vessels.

The harsh voice came again, “What are you saying? Speak louder and share it with me!”

The few people who were watching it closely, not daring to relax for a moment, could see clearly that its mouth did not move when it made a sound. The sound came from the vibration of its abdomen.

Han Ling frost lowered her voice and asked in horror, “What kind of monster is this?”

Jiang Long next to her roared, “Who the hell knows!”

His voice was much louder than Han Ling frost’s. He felt the zombie’s gaze suddenly fix on him. In the sweltering heat, he broke out in a cold sweat, not daring to move a bit.

A trembling ability user said, “So… so should we fight or run? Or should we run!”

Luo Zhengping said, “There’s no way to run. Listen to me, everyone attack together, there might be a chance of survival.”

Since it could silently run to the top of their heads right under their noses, today would definitely be a perilous situation, a narrow escape from death.

The problem was that this place lacked unity, and it was estimated that they would be completely annihilated.

Hiding in the back, someone, presumably a family member, moved. “Click!” The crisp sound of the door lock opening.

The zombie moved at the sound.
