Chapter 80: Ripening Fruits and Vegetables

Lu Yunzhou was in so much pain from being rudely rolled up and thrown down without any consideration that he bared his teeth.

He truly wanted to curse Xie YunChuan’s ancestors for eight generations. Did he think he wasn’t dying fast enough?

He wouldn’t have minded spending the remaining few hours of the night lying on the cold floor. At worst, he could have slowly crawled to find a comfortable place to lie down gently.

He really didn’t need Xie YunChuan’s unnecessary actions to give him a second injury!

White Tiger Cub, who was lying on the ground, heard the footsteps leave and cautiously moved its paw, revealing a pair of round, big eyes for a peek.

    Wow! It’s gone, all gone.

It raised its head completely. The place where the corpse had been lying was now clean, without a trace of blood.

Haha! Its evidence had been cleared. Xie YunChuan hadn’t discovered it. It could still enjoy delicious food every day.

La~ la la! Life feels wonderful!

Early the next morning, Jiang Shanhao got up early to wash the rice and cook white porridge. Later, he would go to the yard to pick some bok choy leaves, blanch them, and casually add some salt and chili to mix it as a side dish.

This was already an improvement to their diet, a delicious meal, because Jiang Long and the others had an outing planned for today. According to custom, they would eat much better this morning.

Usually, breakfast consisted of two vegetables and a fruit, without any staple food, which wasn’t filling at all.

He wondered if Su Genglie hadn’t watered the vegetable garden after returning last night out of spite.

The originally thriving, fresh, and tender green vegetables were mostly wilted today, and even some of the leaf tips had begun to turn yellow.

Looking at the wilted cabbage in his hand, which was half the quality, Jiang Shanhao thought that he would wake up Su Genglie later and make him water the vegetable garden before eating breakfast.

Su Genglie was only good for this. Usually, because he and Tiger were the only two without abilities among the four, they took care of all the dirty and tiring work.

Besides following behind Brother Long to fill in the gaps during missions, Su Genglie would water the fruits and vegetables planted in the yard when he returned.

They had tested it. The water from water-type ability users was more conducive to plant growth. The crops grown were faster and better, and they tasted much sweeter and more delicious than other ordinary ones.

Not to mention anything else, the things in their small garden were harvested crop after crop. Regardless of whether they were in season or not, they were all vying to pop out.

They had thought about expanding the garden to plant more things, preferably even staple foods like rice and wheat, so that they could be completely self-sufficient and no longer risk their lives searching for food in zombie territory.

Unfortunately, Su Genglie said that the water he used to irrigate these fruits and vegetables was different from the large amounts of water he usually used for washing or attacking.

This was pure water rich in a large amount of ability, concentrated and purified by him, which consumed a lot of energy, so he couldn’t take out too much at once.

The beautiful dream of living in seclusion, farming, and keeping healthy was shattered. Su Genglie complained so much that gradually even Jiang Shanhao and Tiger, the two ordinary people, began to despise him as an ability user.

But they were still envious. It was better to have something than nothing. Why be so picky?

Jiang Long, who had finished washing up and came out to find that breakfast wasn’t ready yet, was wandering around in the yard.

He casually picked a green apple from a small apple tree next to him and took a bite, his expression immediately changing. He spat it out, “Ah~! Ptui, ptui, ptui!”

He spat several times in a row to suppress the sour and astringent taste in his mouth. He shouted towards the house, “Three-Haozi, what’s going on? Why is this apple still so sour and astringent? I remember it should have ripened today, right? Did I remember wrong? Wasn’t the last crop picked ten days ago?”

Through many experiments, they had gained a wealth of experience and had accurately figured out how many days it would take to ripen each type of fruit.

Like the small apple tree in the yard, which was only half a person tall with only two or three branches and only bore a dozen fruits at a time, it would have ripened in at most ten days in the past.

Even if Su Genglie’s ability control wasn’t precise enough to achieve the same significant effect every time he condensed pure water, it shouldn’t be this sour and astringent!

Actually, it wasn’t that unpalatable. Even unripe fresh fruits were rare and sought-after in the end of the world.

It was just that Jiang Long and the others had become picky eaters during this time, especially since the ability-ripened fruits were much more delicious than even the best fruits that had ripened normally before the end of the world.

Suddenly tasting this inferior flavor, Jiang Long reflexively spat it out in disgust.

Jiang Shanhao didn’t stop his movements, washing the vegetables piece by piece. Hearing the sound, he recalled for a moment and shouted back, “Brother Long, you remembered wrong. The last time it ripened was eight days ago.”

“Then it’s been nine days now. Why is it still so astringent?”

Remembering the equally wilted vegetables, Jiang Shanhao said, “Maybe Brother Geng forgot to water them last night.” He said it euphemistically, but everyone knew that Su Genglie was sulking and deliberately not working.

These plants irrigated with ability water would lose most of their vitality in an instant if they missed watering for even one day and would wither and rot extremely quickly.

Therefore, Su Genglie usually tried to come back to water them every day.

Even when he went out on missions with Jiang Long, he would prepare three to five days’ worth of water in advance. Although the quality of this water couldn’t achieve the effect of promoting growth, it could ensure that these plants maintained normal growth during this period and wouldn’t suddenly accelerate their withering and death.

“He’s rebelling. Tell him to get up and water them immediately. Do it if you want to, or get lost!”

He was angry because Su Genglie dared to delay his eating. That bastard Su Genglie’s wings had hardened. He couldn’t recognize how much he weighed.

Jiang Long angrily put one hand on his hip, forgetting what was going on. He conveniently put the green apple in his hand to his mouth and took another bite.

As a result, he was soured again and spat it out. He threw the apple hard on the ground and smashed it, then rushed into the house, shouting loudly:

“Where’s that grandson Su Genglie? Damn it, he’s still sleeping. He really knows how to enjoy himself, eating the rice that I risked my life to bring back with peace of mind, and now he’s even ruined my fruit. I’ve really given him too much face.”

Everyone was afraid of the violent Jiang Long. Jiang Shanhao cautiously did his work, afraid that he would accidentally touch his bad luck, giving him a chance to vent his anger on himself. He carefully said, “I called him, but he ignored me.”

Although they looked down on Su Genglie in their hearts, they still had to be respectful on the surface. No matter what, Su Genglie was still an ability user. It was as easy for him to crush them and Tiger, two ordinary people, as it was for them to crush an ant.

Moreover, when Jiang Long wasn’t around, Su Genglie’s temper was even bigger than Jiang Long’s on weekdays.

Jiang Shanhao didn’t dare to offend Su Genglie loudly. He always paranoidly felt that everyone despised and looked down on him, and he would lose his temper at Jiang Shanhao and Lei Hu at every turn.
