Chapter 8: No One Can Touch Him

Xie YunChuan said, word by word, “I won’t touch him, and I won’t allow you to touch him either.”

“Xie YunChuan, some things are beyond your control. You can guarantee you won’t actively harm him, but what about him? Will you abandon him?

If you keep him with you, what if he suddenly turns and attacks you? Can you still guarantee you won’t hurt him?

There are only two possible outcomes: either you get bitten by him, or you kill him.

Don’t underestimate the human instinct for survival. If you kill him with your own hands, you’ll only be in more pain.”

Xie YunChuan smiled contemptuously, “You’re talking about yourself, aren’t you!”

“Weren’t you going to retire and get married? What about your little girlfriend?”

Lu Yunzhou was stung by the words, “That was me.”

“That’s exactly why I don’t want you to suffer the same pain I did.”

“Spare me your kindness, I don’t need it. I advise you to shut your mouth and not spout nonsense in front of him. Don’t forget who caused all of this.”

“I know it’s because of me. If you want me to pay for his life with my own, I won’t hesitate.”

Xie YunChuan glanced at him disdainfully, “Don’t think too highly of yourself, your life isn’t worth much.”

    “ChuanChuan~”

Luo Shuyou skipped out happily. Xie YunChuan got up to greet him, and he jumped into his arms, looking very cheerful.

“My little ray of sunshine is back?”

    “Yeah, I’m back, fully resurrected.”

Luo Shuyou had already thoroughly checked himself from head to toe, inside and out, left and right, front and back, while taking a bath. There were no wounds, not even a scratch. He was finally relieved; it seemed he had just misremembered.

He felt a gaze fixed intently on him. Turning his head, he saw a strange man sitting on the sofa, looking at him with an obscure and incomprehensible expression.

    “Who is he?”

    Luo Shuyou asked Xie YunChuan.

Xie YunChuan gave Lu Yunzhou a warning look, and Lu Yunzhou retracted his gaze.

“Oh, let me introduce you. He’s someone I used to…”

Xie YunChuan paused, unsure how to define his relationship with Lu Yunzhou.

    “A friend?” Luo Shuyou supplied.

“Someone I know, yes, someone I know. You don’t need to think of him as a friend, Luo Shuyou.”

In the following days, Xie YunChuan stayed by Luo Shuyou’s side, subtly observing his every move. He found nothing unusual.

He also took the opportunity to carefully examine Luo Shuyou’s body, confirming that there were indeed no wounds.

To be absolutely sure, he even pulled Lu Yunzhou aside to ask, “Based on your experience, if Luo Shuyou hasn’t shown any abnormalities for this long, does that mean he’s alright?”

Lu Yunzhou had been recuperating here for the past few days and had also been observing Luo Shuyou’s condition. He did seem perfectly normal, except for the fact that he was too clingy with Xie YunChuan; otherwise, there was nothing wrong.

He secretly breathed a sigh of relief. This was the best possible outcome.

“Based on the people I’ve encountered in the past, those who are bitten will show symptoms within twenty-four hours at most. Even if they retain some reason, they can’t change the fact that their bodies become cold, their eyes turn red, and their movements become uncontrollable.

But you should still be careful. After all, we still know very little about this virus. The few cases we’ve seen don’t represent everything. Besides direct contact and infection through injuries, we don’t know if there are other ways to get infected.”

“I’ve checked, he doesn’t have any wounds on his body, not even a single pinch mark.”

Lu Yunzhou was furious, “Damn it, why didn’t you say so earlier? You were acting all nervous, making me worry and feel guilty for nothing.

If he doesn’t even have a pinch mark, what are you being nervous about? Do you think he got infected just by breathing the outside air? If that were the case, we would have all been dead long ago, why would we have waited until today?”

“But his reaction that day didn’t seem like nothing had happened.”

Lu Yunzhou sneered, “Heh, double standard, only you’re allowed to talk. Do you remember how you looked at me with murderous eyes when I said that that day? Why don’t you kill yourself now?”

“I’m talking to you about serious matters, don’t be sarcastic. I’m worried about him now, you wanted to kill him that day, those are not the same, is it?”

Okay, Lu Yunzhou did have that thought at the time, so he didn’t try to argue.

He just waved his hand dismissively and said,

“Maybe he really was just frightened and had a mental breakdown. I’ve seen it over the past few days, your little boyfriend is just a flower you’ve raised in a greenhouse, constantly pampering and doting on him. He hasn’t even experienced a little hardship, even now.

It’s normal for him to suddenly be frightened and become mentally unstable.”

    “I hope so.”

Xie YunChuan also hoped that was indeed the case.

He didn’t know what was wrong with himself. The facts were already in front of him, he had personally checked and there were no injuries, but he just couldn’t let go of his worry, always being suspicious. Was it really true that excessive concern led to confusion?

Luo Shuyou didn’t know how to describe his feelings these past few days. Were they good or bad?

He felt that his usually weak body had become much lighter, and he felt relaxed all over. But sometimes he felt that his body was very heavy, as if he was not in control of himself. It felt as though two little people were fighting in his head, which made him very irritable.

His eyes were also like that; it was as if they had recovered, but also as if they hadn’t. Most of the time, he could see things clearly, even exceptionally clearly, but sometimes a red mist would suddenly appear before his eyes, making it impossible to see even things that were right in front of him.

His hearing seemed to have become better, no, it was too good. Recently, he had been constantly awakened by the hoarse sounds nearby, feeling vaguely that those things were right next to his ear.

The soundproofing of this villa was very good, and it had never been like this before. So, the only possibility was that something was wrong with him. He didn’t know if it was a mental problem or a physical problem.

He didn’t dare to tell Xie YunChuan, so he tried to ignore these strange changes every day, trying to act as normal as possible.

At dinner, watching Xie YunChuan coaxing Luo Shuyou to eat more food at the table again, Lu Yunzhou’s teeth ached with envy.

These days at Xie YunChuan’s house, if he hadn’t experienced those things in the previous month that were so unforgettable, he would have suspected that the end of the world was just a ridiculous dream he had.

How could these two people in the villa still be living such a relaxed and carefree life? Was this the good mindset of the rich? He, a poor person, just didn’t understand.

After dinner, taking advantage of the fact that Luo Shuyou wasn’t clinging to Xie YunChuan at the moment, Lu Yunzhou quickly approached and asked, “Do you have a warehouse full of food in your house? I see you spending it so carelessly without any concern.”

Xie YunChuan didn’t say anything, he directly led him to the warehouse, “Here, this is it.”

Looking at the huge room and the sparse items inside, Lu Yunzhou felt like he was about to fall apart.

“Just…just this little bit of stuff?”

    “Yeah.”

“Putting it in such a big warehouse?”

    “Mhm!”

“You rich people are all sick.”

He had been looking forward to seeing such a big door.

“This place wasn’t originally used to store food, it was just temporarily requisitioned. We usually eat fresh ingredients, how could we store much stuff.”

“This little bit was still something I found someone to haul over in time when I saw that the situation wasn’t right.”

“Ha, and you have the nerve to say that? What have you been doing these past few days? You’ve been eating and drinking well every meal, you don’t seem like someone who only has this little wealth. I’ve been eating and drinking heartily along with you every day, damn it, it hurts so much, I should have saved some.”
