    Chapter 7: Illusion?

Xie YunChuan went to the kitchen to get some ice. Passing by the living room, he saw Lu Yunzhou sprawled on the sofa, and remembered that he had left an injured person there.

He casually said, “There’s a first-aid kit in the drawer under the TV. Get it yourself.”

Lu Yunzhou was so tired that he just wanted to collapse. He waved his hand to indicate he understood, and didn’t say anything.

Xie YunChuan had said what he needed to say and didn’t bother whether he actually did it or not. He grabbed the ice and went back to the bedroom.

Back in the room, he saw Luo Shuyou still looking in the mirror. “Stop looking. Come here and ice your eyes.”

“Don’t you know your eyes haven’t recovered yet? And you’re still crying under the blanket like a three-year-old?”

“Oh, I know. Wasn’t I just scared? I won’t do it again. Besides, who told you not to take me out and to come back so late? Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone out to look for you, and I wouldn’t have been scared, and almost bitten. I’m already so miserable, and you’re still scolding me. You don’t love me anymore?”

Luo Shuyou had been spoiled a bit senseless by Xie YunChuan’s protection. He was indeed terrified at first, but after Xie YunChuan coaxed and deceived him to calm down, he returned to his willful self.

“I’m not scolding you, I’m just worried about you, you little ingrate. Am I not loving you enough?”

    “Hmph!”

Luo Shuyou was the type of spoiled person who got more energetic the more he was coaxed. Xie YunChuan, however, was always willing to indulge him, letting him have his way in everything, never saying a harsh word, always coaxing and doting on him.

Like today, even though he knew that Luo Shuyou running out on his own was alarming and worrying, he couldn’t bear to say a single harsh word and still had to busy himself with comforting his emotions.

So, it could be said that Luo Shuyou was still able to maintain this kind of willfulness after more than a month into the end of the world was largely due to Xie YunChuan’s efforts.

“Tell me properly what happened, the more detailed the better.”

“I just saw that you hadn’t come back very late today, and I was waiting anxiously, and I was afraid that something had happened to you and you were trapped. So I went out to find you.

“I’m very capable. I quietly avoided those things all the way and wasn’t discovered. Who knew that I quietly searched the entire neighborhood but couldn’t find you.

“You know, my eyes aren’t good, and I was afraid that I might have misseen something, missed something, so I planned to search again.

“Maybe it was because I was suddenly exposed to the extremely cold environment for too long, but as I searched, I found my vision becoming increasingly blurred, and I was seeing double.

“I couldn’t find you, and my eyes suddenly went like that. In a panic, I made a noise, and then those monsters chased after me. Luckily, I ran fast, and I happened to be close to home, so I rushed back into the house.

“Waaah~, you don’t know how scared I was.”

“Then how did you think you were bitten? Did you get entangled with those things?”

Luo Shuyou subconsciously denied, “No, no—”

“I…I was just scared silly. I bumped into something, yes, I bumped into something.”

“They were far away from me. I ran very fast and left them far behind.”

“Bumped into something? Let me see where you bumped?”

As he spoke, Xie YunChuan reached out to check his body, but Luo Shuyou, like a frightened bird, suddenly shook off his hand and jumped away.

He hurriedly said, “No, no, I wasn’t bitten, I just…bumped into something, where did I bump? Yes, I bumped into my calf, I know, I bumped into my calf, no need to look.”

Luo Shuyou’s condition clearly indicated that something was wrong. Xie YunChuan couldn’t bear to force him, and quickly compromised, “Yes, no, our Shuyou definitely wasn’t bitten, he just bumped his calf. See, it’s all red here, isn’t it?”

He tentatively went over and stroked his calf, telling a blatant lie while looking at the smooth, fair skin.

“Does Shuyou’s leg still hurt here?”

    “No, it doesn’t hurt anymore.”

Luo Shuyou seemed a little dazed.

“Then shall we take a bath, okay? Look, your body is dirty. Let’s wash, okay? Our Shuyou loves to be clean, doesn’t he?”

“Okay, bath, wash and smell good.”

Xie YunChuan helped him walk towards the bathroom. At the door, just as he was about to push the door open together, Luo Shuyou seemed to suddenly come back to his senses and looked at him warily, “I, I’ll go in by myself, I’ll wash myself.”

That distrustful, vigilant look made Xie YunChuan’s heart ache. It wasn’t necessary, was it? Even if he was really bitten, he wouldn’t abandon him. He really wanted to tell his Shuyou not to be afraid, not to be wary of him.

But he didn’t dare, he was afraid of shattering the dream he had woven for him with his own hands, and then letting him fall into the abyss and be unable to climb out.

“Then Shuyou must wash himself clean, okay? Put the dirty clothes inside, and I’ll wash them.”

    “Okay~”

The voice returned to being cheerful and clear.

Xie YunChuan didn’t linger and opened the bedroom door, bumping into a pensive Lu Yunzhou.

Caught red-handed eavesdropping, Lu Yunzhou awkwardly touched his nose.

“That, I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”

“Oh, right, that, I couldn’t find the first-aid kit, and I wanted to ask you, and then…well…”

Xie YunChuan glared at him, “Come with me.”

He went over and pulled open the drawer, and there it was, bright and clear.

He said unhappily, “Did you really not find it, or did you not even look?”

Lu Yunzhou didn’t dare to speak. He really hadn’t looked. He had just been busy lying there like a corpse and hadn’t paid attention to where Xie YunChuan had said it was. He couldn’t just rummage through other people’s houses either.

Xie YunChuan handed him the box, “Here, need any help?”

“No, no, the injury is just on my leg, I can reach it.”

Lu Yunzhou sat on the sofa and pulled up his trouser leg, revealing a large bruise with a clear red mark in the middle.

Xie YunChuan frowned and asked, “How did you get injured like this?”

    “A shelf fell on me.”

A light tone, as if he didn’t care about the injury at all.

    Xie YunChuan coldly scolded, “Hopeless!”

After a long silence, Lu Yunzhou suddenly said, “I’m sorry.”

    “What?”

“You know what I’m talking about.”

“It hasn’t been confirmed yet, has it? It’s too early to feel guilty.”

“Isn’t it obvious enough? Don’t deceive yourself.”

Xie YunChuan stopped talking, painfully closing his eyes and leaning back on the sofa, unwilling to face it.

After a long time, “So what? Is ‘I’m sorry’ useful? What can I do!”

“I don’t have much kindness. I don’t want my rare act of kindness to result in losing my most precious thing.”

Lu Yunzhou also wished that Xie YunChuan hadn’t stopped to save him. He also found it difficult to accept that another person was implicated because of him. But what was done could not be undone, and regret was a meaningless emotion.

“I’m sorry… You can do whatever you want to me, but his problem must be solved.”

Xie YunChuan suddenly opened his eyes, and his entire aura changed. A cold aura emanated from him all at once. His dark pupils were like undissolvable ink, and a dark shadow flashed across his eyes. He stared at Lu Yunzhou with a gaze as cold and sharp as a blade and said:

“If you dare to touch him, I’ll kill you.”

Lu Yunzhou stopped his movements, raised his head, and heavily met Xie YunChuan’s hostile gaze, “I can not touch him. I just can’t bear to see you do it yourself. That’s too cruel.”

“I’ll do it. I don’t mind if you kill me.”

    “Is there a difference?”
