TSIAGBICATMWI Chapter 21
by VolareChapter 21 Leaving
Dawn. In just one night, the thick snow had completely melted, revealing the desolate landscape beneath its white mask.
Lu Yunzhou was awakened by a clattering noise. Clearly not fully awake, he lazily asked, “Xie YunChuan, what are you doing so early in the morning?”
A long silence followed, but the noise continued. Lu Yunzhou slowly sat up. Still unable to open his eyes, he asked, “What are you doing?”
Still no one answered. He sat with his head raised for a dozen seconds before finally opening his eyes. “Wah~! What the hell?” He exclaimed, shrinking back as he was startled by a zombie hanging by the window, half its head inside.
He scrambled out of bed. “Oh~ oh~ oh~! What the hell?” Frantically, he grabbed the bedside table and slammed it down on the head dangling by the window.
Because it was hot last night, he hadn’t closed the window. He hadn’t expected that if he had woken up any later, he would have been a delicious breakfast for the zombies.
Putting down the bedside table, he thought to quickly close the window. Leaning over, good heavens, densely packed zombies were climbing over each other, covering the wall. This was the second floor, and it looked like many had already climbed to the third floor.
He hurried out the door and ran to the third floor, wondering if Xie YunChuan and the others were awake.
Damn it, where did so many monsters come from? Hadn’t this neighborhood been cleared out?
The door to Xie YunChuan’s bedroom was open, so it seemed he had already been out patrolling. He was now carefully observing the situation in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, having pulled back the curtain.
Lu Yunzhou approached and quietly asked, “What’s going on? Didn’t we clear out the zombies nearby? Where did all these come from?”
Xie YunChuan replied, “We cleared the ones nearby, but not the whole city. One night is enough time for them to smell us and find their way here.”
He turned to indicate Lu Yunzhou to look. Not only were they in this situation, but every place in the neighborhood with living people had a pile of those things surrounding it.
Lu Yunzhou’s face darkened as he looked. “Even from this far away, they can find us. Sure enough, these things are evolving in an unstoppable direction every day.”
Xie YunChuan lowered the curtain and began to check their supplies. Seeing Lu Yunzhou still standing there, he asked, “Are your things packed?”
“Are we leaving now?”
“Otherwise? You don’t think there are enough of those things outside? Want to collect some more?”
Lu Yunzhou glanced at Luo Shuyou lying motionless on the bed and tentatively asked, “He… is still asleep?”
He had seen Luo Shuyou lying quietly on the bed as soon as he came in. There was no reason for him to be sleeping so soundly after they had been talking for so long.
Xie YunChuan stopped what he was doing and looked at Luo Shuyou, not answering his question, but simply said, “Go downstairs and get ready. We’ll leave when I come down.”
Before long, Xie YunChuan came downstairs with a simple backpack and held the weak Luo Shuyou in one arm, carrying a machete in the other. He looked at Lu Yunzhou and said, “I’ll have to trouble you to lead the way later.”
Lu Yunzhou knew something was wrong with Luo Shuyou from the look of things. Since Xie YunChuan didn’t say anything, he didn’t ask any further. He shouldered his already packed luggage, gripped the knife in his hand, and righteously went to open the door.
Xie YunChuan’s expression changed, and he quickly stopped him. “What are you doing?”
Lu Yunzhou looked confused. “What else would I be doing? Opening the door and fighting our way out! Didn’t you tell me to lead the way?”
Xie YunChuan: “…”
“I meant lead the way by driving. …Follow me.”
Xie YunChuan led him directly to a door and pressed a silver button next to it. The door slowly opened, revealing a small garage filled with various luxury cars.
Lu Yunzhou clicked his tongue. “I knew it. You rich people all have your own garages. Why did you have to build such a big, wasteful garage over there?”
Xie YunChuan: “Not enough space to park them all.”
“Damn it!” Lu Yunzhou’s hatred for the rich reached an unprecedented peak at this moment.
“If you had said we were escaping by car, I would have gone back to get some more things.”
Xie YunChuan raised an eyebrow at him and said, “Other than food, nothing else is necessary. Do you have any food left to bring?”
Lu Yunzhou stopped in his tracks. “Heh, there wasn’t much food left anyway.”
Looking at his small bag and then at Xie YunChuan’s bulging backpack, Lu Yunzhou asked suspiciously, “What good things did you bring for me that you packed so much?”
Xie YunChuan: “Shuyou’s change of clothes and toiletries.”
Lu Yunzhou: “Alright, alright, a fancy person!”
Xie YunChuan ignored his teasing. “Pick a car?”
Lu Yunzhou put down his bag and excitedly looked around, touching this and that. A love for cars was every man’s instinct. He hadn’t expected that one day he would be able to wander through a sea of cars, picking and choosing.
He stopped in front of a sleek, cool, silver-white sports car. “This one.”
Xie YunChuan: “I told you to pick one that’s suitable for escaping, not one that’s suitable for showing off.”
Lu Yunzhou sheepishly lowered his hand from the car and said, trying to save face, “Just kidding, just kidding.”
He then turned his gaze to a dark green Yueye Big G car. “This one. Actually, I had my eye on this one.”
Sitting in the driver’s seat, Lu Yunzhou asked unwillingly, “You really don’t have any pistols or grenades or anything? If not, do you at least have some dynamite?”
Xie YunChuan coldly said, “Those are controlled items.”
Lu Yunzhou scoffed in disappointment. “You were a failure as an outlaw.”
Xie YunChuan ignored his ranting.
With a roar, the car quickly drove out of the garage. Attracted by the sound, the zombies climbed down the walls and turned to chase after them. Fortunately, no matter how fast the zombies evolved, they couldn’t keep up with the power of technology and were left far behind.
As they approached the entrance of the neighborhood, and saw the gate tightly closed while the zombies were chasing relentlessly behind, Lu Yunzhou had to slow down. He asked Xie YunChuan, who was still sitting as steady as a mountain, “What do we do? Smash through?”
Xie YunChuan didn’t speak. He simply raised his hand slightly beside the seat, and some kind of invisible force surged, instantly causing many vines to appear and tear open the gate.
Lu Yunzhou’s eyes widened. “Holy crap! What kind of magic is that?”
There was no time to delve into it. He slammed on the gas pedal, and the car shot out of the neighborhood like an arrow, just a second before the zombies grabbed onto it.
As they drove, the zombies clinging to the walls of other houses were attracted and began to climb down. But before they could reach the ground, the car sped away, leaving them with a cloud of exhaust fumes to enjoy.
At this time, the people remaining in the villa area were mostly old, weak, sick, or disabled. They could only desperately hold on in fear, yearning for their distant family members to return and rescue them.
Seeing a car escape at this time, they clung to the windows, their weak shouts for help drowned out by the zombies’ roars.
