    Chapter 121 Missing Persons

The night was pitch black, the temperature dropped below zero, and except for Xu Yuzhe, who was on night watch, everyone else was fast asleep.

There were five of them in total. Gu Tangyue and Luo Shuyou had no combat ability whatsoever. Gu Tangyue was the main protection target, and Luo Shuyou was Xie YunChuan’s main protection target and was also a bit simple-minded. Therefore, Xu Yuzhe, Gu Tangxi, and Xie YunChuan took turns guarding the night, allowing the others to rest peacefully.

Xu Yuzhe lit a dim candle and sat quietly in the hall, closing his eyes to rest. Although his eyes were closed, he listened in all directions. At the slightest sound, he would get up and investigate. Fortunately, everything had been calm so far.

He didn’t know that while he thought everything was calm, a dark figure had been standing straight outside the courtyard gate for a long time.

In the darkness, the zombie’s blood-red eyes stared intently ahead. Thin, rotting flesh barely covered sharp fangs, and the decaying face was horrifying.

It stood there silently, as if waiting for something. Cold gusts of wind blew past, causing tattered pieces of its blood-stained clothing to flutter in the wind.

Xu Yuzhe in the hall was completely unaware, but at this moment, Luo Shuyou, who was sleeping in the bedroom, suddenly opened his eyes. His gaze was empty and numb as he looked towards the courtyard gate. After a long while, he slowly crawled out of Xie YunChuan’s arms and got out of bed.

This was the second floor. The reason Xu Yuzhe was guarding in the hall was that the doors of all the bedrooms were connected to the hall. Without passing through him, those things couldn’t get in. And the doors and windows of each sleeping bedroom were tightly closed. If a zombie broke in through the window, it would surely wake up the sleeping people. It was considered a relatively safe sleeping environment.

They had defended against zombies breaking in through the windows or rushing through the front door, but they didn’t expect someone to take the initiative to go out from the inside!

Luo Shuyou had already silently opened the window and jumped down. Don’t be fooled by how Xie YunChuan usually treats him like a fragile porcelain doll, afraid of him getting bumped or bruised. In reality, his body was stronger than anyone else’s. He not only had the undead body of a zombie, but also the physical enhancement of an ability user. The mere height of the second floor was as simple as stepping down a step for him. He landed lightly, without even waking up the light-sleeping and vigilant Xie YunChuan.

Luo Shuyou walked blankly to the door and opened the courtyard gate. Seeing Luo Shuyou come out, the zombie’s stiff eyelids twitched slightly, probably wanting to smile, but unfortunately, its zombie face couldn’t make that expression.

The zombie turned and walked away, and Luo Shuyou obediently followed behind him. And just like that, without making a sound, one human and one zombie set off on a friendly journey, step by step moving away from the small attic where Xie YunChuan and the others were.

Xu Yuzhe’s and the others’ division of labor for tonight was that he would guard the first half of the night, Gu Tangxi would guard for a few hours around noon, and Xie YunChuan would guard the second half of the night.

When the time came, Gu Tangxi yawned and came out to replace Xu Yuzhe on time.

She stretched and asked sleepily, “Nothing happened, right?”

Xu Yuzhe got up and said, “No, … then I’ll go to sleep. Stay awake and don’t fall asleep.”

Gu Tangxi shook her head to get rid of the sleepiness in her mind, and forced herself to perk up, promising, “No, you go ahead. Good night, sleep well.”

Xu Yuzhe said thank you and went back to his room.

Xie YunChuan, half-asleep, heard the two people quietly talking about changing shifts. He vaguely felt that something was wrong, and his arms felt empty.

He reached out to grab, but grabbed nothing. Luo Shuyou, who should have been lying in his arms, was gone. He unhurriedly stretched out his arm and felt around on the left and right, but still couldn’t find him.

At this moment, he finally woke up and jumped to his feet, lightly calling Luo Shuyou’s name as he turned on the flashlight and looked around, afraid that Luo Shuyou had been restless in his sleep and rolled off the bed.

Xie YunChuan got up and looked everywhere, but he couldn’t find him. Luo Shuyou was not in the room, which he could see at a glance. Luo Shuyou was not in this room at all.

Xie YunChuan finally realized the seriousness of the problem and anxiously ran out to ask Gu Tangxi, “Did you see Youyou come out?”

Gu Tangxi didn’t react for a moment to why he was asking this, and truthfully replied, “No! I just came on duty when you came out, why don’t you go ask Xu Yuzhe.”

Xie YunChuan strode over and knocked on Xu Yuzhe’s door. Gu Tangxi’s head was drowsy and she was still a little out of it. After she slowly realized what was happening, she suddenly felt a jolt: What, Youyou is missing?

Her sleepiness was all scared away, and she hurriedly ran over to catch up with Xie YunChuan to ask Xu Yuzhe about the situation.

Xu Yuzhe had just laid down and hadn’t even had time to close his eyes when he was woken up by the knocking. At this time, he couldn’t afford to stay in bed, so he quickly got up and opened the door to see what was going on.

Xie YunChuan also asked, “Did you see Luo Shuyou come out?”

Xu Yuzhe also subconsciously replied, “No, no one came out. Doesn’t your room have a bathroom? Why would he come out in the middle of the night?”

Then he reacted faster than Gu Tangxi and realized, “Luo Shuyou is missing?”

Xie YunChuan’s face was so dark it was almost dripping ink, and he said, “Search separately, look for him in every corner of this building, and also, be careful, he might attack you, don’t hurt him.”

The first thing Xie YunChuan thought of was, had Luo Shuyou’s corpse poison acted up? He also hoped that this was the case, so at least he should be safe.

Because there was no noise, it was only possible that Luo Shuyou had run around on his own, perhaps the people on night watch had dozed off and hadn’t noticed Luo Shuyou coming out.

Under normal circumstances, Luo Shuyou would never leave Xie YunChuan’s side and run around. So it could only be…

Gu Tangxi nodded and increased her attention, cautiously going upstairs to look for him. This was a three-story attic. Before, they had just looked around to see that there was no danger, and then nailed all the doors and windows on the third floor shut. In the darkness, Gu Tangxi held her breath and carefully searched every corner.

Xu Yuzhe was stunned for a moment, wondering what kind of attack power Luo Shuyou could have? However, seeing that Xie YunChuan told them not to hurt him, it might just be that he was afraid that he would have some kind of stress response.

Xie YunChuan was afraid that Xu Yuzhe would not understand the situation and would reflexively hurt Luo Shuyou if he tried to bite him, so he said again in a deep voice, “He might rush over to bite you, just dodge it, don’t hurt him.”

Xie YunChuan didn’t know if Luo Shuyou would show zombie characteristics now. If that was the case, he was even more likely to be attacked as a zombie.

Xu Yuzhe: “Huh?” Why would Luo Shuyou bite people? No one answered his confusion. Xie YunChuan had already run off to search the other rooms on the second floor.

Xu Yuzhe walked slowly downstairs, thinking, unable to figure it out. He stopped thinking, he’d know when he found him, right?

Six or seven minutes later, Gu Tangxi and Xu Yuzhe returned to the second floor. At this time, Xie YunChuan was in the bedroom where they had been sleeping, staring intently at the window with a gloomy expression. Gu Tangxi and Xu Yuzhe exchanged a look, and both shook their heads to indicate that they had not found him.

Gu Tangxi said, “We’ve searched everywhere, he’s not there.”

Xie YunChuan felt around the window lock. Gu Tangxi looked over and saw that it was open, and it must have been locked before. Thinking of a certain possibility, Gu Tangxi asked uncertainly, “Did you open it?”

    Xie YunChuan said, “No.”

    Gu Tangxi: “Then…”

“Could it be that Youyou felt like he was losing control and didn’t want to hurt us, so he left on his own?”
