TSIAGBICATMWI Chapter 12
by VolareChapter 12 Pampering
Xie YunChuan was very satisfied with his masterpiece, which provided warmth without being too bulky.
From a distance, beside two tall, strong, and capable men stood a… little snowball? The style was strangely harmonious.
The snow was deeper than Luo Shuyou’s knees, and he was wearing so many layers that he could barely move an inch without Xie YunChuan holding his hand.
Even so, they were moving very slowly. Lu Yunzhou, who was clearing the path ahead, had to stop every now and then to check if they were keeping up, and he would find they had fallen far behind if he wasn’t careful.
After walking for half a day, he could still clearly see Xie YunChuan’s house when he turned his head.
Lu Yunzhou sighed, walked back quickly, grabbed Xie YunChuan’s backpack, turned around, and silently walked forward.
Xie YunChuan and Luo Shuyou were stunned for a moment by his sudden action. Then, Xie YunChuan naturally squatted down. “Shuyou, come on up, I’ll carry you.”
Luo Shuyou knew he was being seen as a burden. He had already tried his best to walk, but he was still slowing them down.
Feelings of self-blame, guilt, and grievance flooded his heart. His nose stung, and he tried hard to hold back his tears, saying in as normal a tone as possible, “Husband, why don’t you send me back? I promise I’ll be a good boy and wait for you at home this time. I won’t run around.”
Even though Luo Shuyou tried his best to restrain himself, Xie YunChuan could still hear the nasal tone in his voice, and how he would call him “husband” whenever he felt aggrieved.
“Shuyou, be good. You’re not a burden to anyone. It’s my choice to bring you along. Isn’t it only natural for you to rely on your husband? Don’t feel indebted. Don’t be upset, okay? Tomorrow, we’ll go out by ourselves and not go with him.”
“No, I’m not upset. Let’s still go with him. More people mean more security. At worst, we’ll give him a bigger share of what we find.”
“Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
“Mmm~!”
Luo Shuyou hated his own sentimentality. In times like these, he was still making a fuss over such a small matter. He was really being inconsiderate, but he couldn’t control his emotions. Alas!
Lu Yunzhou stopped in front of a house. “The door isn’t locked here. Should we go in and take a look?”
Xie YunChuan: “Let’s look for houses that are locked. These ones have basically been looted clean. There are rarely any survivors.”
So the three of them continued on. Luo Shuyou obediently wrapped his arms around Xie YunChuan’s neck and laid on his back, not saying much.
Suddenly, Luo Shuyou seemed to sense something. “Stop, don’t go forward. Let’s take another road.”
Xie YunChuan didn’t ask anything, just changed direction and said, “Let’s go this way then.”
Lu Yunzhou didn’t dwell on why he should listen to Luo Shuyou. He would change routes as requested. They were searching aimlessly anyway, so it didn’t matter which way they went.
He just asked with some confusion, “What’s ahead?”
Xie YunChuan didn’t understand why Luo Shuyou didn’t want to go that way either. Seeing that Luo Shuyou wasn’t answering Lu Yunzhou’s question, he took over the conversation. “Nothing special. If there’s anything different, it’s that there’s an underground parking garage over there.”
After that, this happened many more times. Luo Shuyou stopped them from entering several houses.
And Xie YunChuan always did whatever Luo Shuyou said without question. He didn’t explain the reason, but Xie YunChuan just listened to Luo Shuyou unconditionally.
After a while, Lu Yunzhou couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed, but he suppressed it and held it in all the way.
Fortunately, they didn’t encounter a single zombie all day. Even the houses they broke into were empty, with no monsters left behind.
It was so smooth that it made them wonder if those things had been wiped out by the heavy snow.
The three of them returned to the villa safe and sound, successfully scavenging a lot of food, enough to last them for a while.
That night, after Luo Shuyou fell asleep by the fire, Lu Yunzhou pulled Xie YunChuan aside to talk.
“Are we going out again tomorrow?”
Xie YunChuan blurted out without thinking, “Yes. The power is out, and we can’t keep outsiders away. We need to prepare as many supplies as possible before people from outside come in, or those things won’t be waiting nicely for us to take them when they find this place.”
Lu Yunzhou thought so too.
He glanced at Luo Shuyou, who was sleeping soundly like an innocent little elf, as if all the world’s troubles and worries had nothing to do with him.
Lu Yunzhou’s expression darkened slightly, and he asked, “Are you still going to take him with you?”
Xie YunChuan nodded affirmatively. “Is there a problem with that?”
“Is there a problem? I don’t mind sharing the supplies we find with him, but there’s no need to take him along as a burden every time we go out, right!”
Lu Yunzhou’s emotions were a little agitated, and he spoke louder and louder.
Xie YunChuan reached out in time to cover his mouth, and only breathed a sigh of relief after seeing that Luo Shuyou hadn’t been awakened. He let go of his hand.
His face darkened. “He’s not a burden.”
Lu Yunzhou also realized that he had spoken inappropriately. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I didn’t mean to say he was a burden, but I just don’t think it’s necessary to take him along, right? Wouldn’t it be safer to leave him at home?”
“It’s not your place to call him a burden.”
“Yes, yes, yes, he’s your treasure. But…”
“Let’s split up.”
Before Lu Yunzhou could finish speaking, Xie YunChuan suddenly said.
“We can split up, and you can come back to the villa to rest at night. We don’t want your things.”
Lu Yunzhou was stunned. He couldn’t even say a few words? Besides, he didn’t say anything. Angrily, he said, “What the hell do you take me for? You saved my life.”
“You saved me too, so let’s just call it even.”
“I’m definitely taking Shuyou with me, and you know his situation.”
“I don’t know, Xie YunChuan, and I don’t mean anything else by this, but Luo Shuyou is a normal adult male, right? Do you have to protect him more than a little girl?”
Xie YunChuan didn’t want to explain the reasons, but just said, “He’s been spoiled by me and can’t handle hardship.”
“If you put it that way, who wasn’t pampered before this? Those who can survive have all grown up through trials and tribulations.”
“It’s survival of the fittest. You should let him grow and mature, instead of coddling him like a child at a time like this.”
“I want to.”
“Let’s split up tomorrow.”
“Whatever.”
He couldn’t even say anything. He was just giving some good advice. It’s not like he wasn’t allowing him to take him along. If he listened, he listened, and if he didn’t, he didn’t. Anyway, his opinion never mattered. Did they have to part ways because of that?
Damn it, I’m not serving you anymore. Whatever. Split up if you want to. It’s not like he was going to rely on them.
Lu Yunzhou didn’t really think that Luo Shuyou was a burden, but Xie YunChuan’s state was obviously problematic.
His protectiveness of Luo Shuyou was too much. There were many things that Luo Shuyou himself didn’t think were a big deal, but Xie YunChuan was overprotecting him. It was toxic.
On Xie YunChuan’s side, he felt that his Shuyou had already suffered a lot. It was his fault for not protecting him well. How could he be called spoiled? He didn’t want him to wrong himself anymore.
The two parted on bad terms.
