Chapter Index

He understood, the guarantees he made to himself before getting Lan Wangji drunk—that he would “only ask questions and do nothing else”—were completely self-deceiving.

The person who was usually the most upright and self-disciplined would lose his temper, hit people, and act recklessly when drunk. This proved that Lan Wangji’s behavior while drunk was beyond his own control. Yet, he, knowing this, still took advantage of his easy manipulability, deliberately using guidance and provocation to do as he pleased.

No matter how abstinent Lan Wangji was, he was, after all, a normal man. Being so crudely and deliberately teased by him, it was only natural for his desires to be ignited. And just the other day, Lan Wangji had been insulted by Jiang Cheng over this very matter, and now he was also worried about his brother, yet he was still being so reckless at a time like this…

After Lan Wangji hummed, he didn’t say another word, but Wei Wuxian had already thought of a whole pile of things on his own.

In both his lifetimes, he never knew how to write the words “shame,” but now, he suddenly understood them profoundly. His lips were still burning red and swollen, and the sticky feeling between his abdomen and legs made him want to vanish, wishing he could just bash his head against a wall and die.

This situation nakedly confirmed his worst guess. Lan Wangji was very good to him, but… it probably wasn’t the kind of “good” he had been hoping for.

Not wanting to embarrass or trouble Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian hurriedly put on his clothes and pants, patting the side of his head as he did so, and said in a tone that was no different from his usual one, “You’re sober, and well, I’m about sober too.”

Lan Wangji turned his head and looked at him. Wei Wuxian dared not guess what emotions were in his eyes. His slightly trembling arms grabbed his clothes and began putting them on, but then saw Lan Wangji, after a moment of silence, reach out a hand towards him. It seemed he was going to help wipe off the white, viscous fluid that had stained his body.

Wei Wuxian quickly said, “No need!!!”

Lan Wangji’s hand froze mid-air, and he indeed withdrew it.

Wei Wuxian breathed a sigh of relief and muttered, “No need for you to do it. I can do it myself, you don’t need to touch me.”

Someone like Lan Wangji, after doing something like this, would probably still think he had messed up the other person’s appearance, but he had no face to let Lan Wangji help him clean up. Wei Wuxian grabbed a random undergarment and wiped himself down haphazardly, throwing it away as he said, “Well, Lan Zhan, we both probably drank too much tonight. Sorry about that.”

    Lan Wangji didn’t speak.

Wei Wuxian put on one boot and continued, “But you don’t have to be too embarrassed either, uh, it’s normal for men to do this occasionally. You… don’t take it to heart.”

Lan Wangji looked at him quietly and asked, “Normal?”

    His voice sounded extremely calm.

Wei Wuxian didn’t dare answer. Lan Wangji asked again, “Don’t take it to heart?”

Originally, Wei Wuxian was thinking that rather than being embarrassed after having his feelings known, to the point that they wouldn’t even be able to be friends, he would rather have Lan Wangji think of him as frivolous and bad. But now, he regretted saying such stupid things without thinking, and said softly, “…I’m sorry.”

Lan Wangji suddenly stood up. Wei Wuxian suddenly felt a little panicked. Just then, the landlady came running up the stairs, knocking on their door, “Young masters, young masters! Are you asleep?”

Lan Wangji averted his gaze. Wei Wuxian hurriedly put on his other boot and said, “Not asleep! No, we’re asleep, we’ll get up in a moment after I throw on a robe.”

Once Wei Wuxian was properly dressed, Lan Wangji went to open the door. Wei Wuxian said, “What’s wrong?”

The landlady was standing in the corridor, smiling apologetically, “I’m so sorry to disturb your rest so late, please don’t be offended. But I have no choice, the guests downstairs said water was dripping into their room, and they suspected it was coming from your place, so I came to have a look…” She peeked into the room and was immediately shocked, “This, this, what happened here!”

Wei Wuxian rubbed his chin and said, “I’m more embarrassed, landlady, I’m so sorry. I got drunk and went crazy tonight, and I wanted to take a bath. In my excitement, I hit the wooden tub twice, and it just broke apart. I’m so sorry, I’ll pay for it.” Just as he said this, he realized that he couldn’t pay a thing; all their expenses on this trip had been paid for by Lan Wangji alone, so in the end, it would still be Lan Wangji who would pay.

The landlady said “It’s okay, it’s okay, no problem” while looking utterly distressed. She came into the room and said, “How did the water leak downstairs… This room is so messy, there isn’t even space to stand…” She bent down to pick up some cushions, and gasped in surprise again, “How is there a hole here!”

It was the one that Lan Wangji had poked with Bichen. Wei Wuxian stuck his hands into his slightly messy hair and could only repeatedly say, “Oh, it’s my fault, I was playing with my sword earlier, and then…”

Before he could finish, Lan Wangji had already picked up his money bag and placed a silver ingot on the table. The landlady’s expression immediately softened a lot, but she still covered her chest and couldn’t help but reprimand them a little, “Young masters, it’s not my place to say this, but how can you just randomly throw a dangerous thing like a sword around? It’s nothing to poke a hole in the mat and the floor, but what if you hurt someone?”

Wei Wuxian said, “Yes, yes, the landlady is right.”

The landlady took the money and said, “Let’s leave it at that then. It’s so late, you should rest, I’ll get you another room, and we’ll fix it tomorrow morning.”

Wei Wuxian said, “Okay, thank you, sorry for the trouble… Wait! Then, could I trouble you for two rooms.”

The landlady asked, surprised, “Why do you need two rooms?”

Wei Wuxian didn’t dare to look at Lan Wangji, and said in a low voice, “…I go crazy when I get drunk, as you saw. I throw things around and play with my sword, I’m afraid I’ll hurt people.”

    The landlady said, “That’s true!”

After agreeing, she indeed changed their rooms, and after they had settled in, she then went downstairs, holding her skirts. After Wei Wuxian thanked her, he opened the door to his room. He turned around to see Lan Wangji standing in the corridor, one hand holding Bichen, the other gently touching his forehead ribbon. His head was lowered and he said nothing. Wei Wuxian originally wanted to immediately hide in his room, but upon seeing this, he found himself rooted to the spot. He carefully considered his words before saying, cautiously and sincerely, “Lan Zhan, I’m sorry about what happened tonight.”

After a moment of silence, Lan Wangji said softly, “You don’t need to say that word to me.”

After he had readjusted his forehead ribbon and it was now perfectly straight, he was once again the dignified and self-possessed Hanguang-Jun. He nodded slightly and said, “Rest well. The matter of the Guanyin Temple and going to Lanling, we’ll discuss tomorrow.”

Hearing these eight words, Wei Wuxian’s heart felt somewhat clearer. At least, there were still things they could discuss together tomorrow. He smiled and said, “Yes, you too. Rest well, we’ll discuss it tomorrow.”
