    Chapter 56: Vile

The two were at odds for a whole day, but at night, Gu Yusen held Chu Zhaoyi’s soft body and slept soundly.

He must have been crazy yesterday to pull such a stunt.

The next day, Chu Zhaoyi was still the same as usual, wearing the clothes Gu Yusen had chosen for him while playing Miracle Radiance, and eating the breakfast Gu Yusen handed him on time in the morning.

Gu Yusen breathed a sigh of relief.

The third vase was already placed by the window, filled with the roses he had given to coax him. He didn’t expect there to be so many already.

The first bottle was completely dried up, and the third bottle couldn’t hold any more after inserting the one from last night.

“Ah Yi, how’s the painting coming along?” Professor Qin had been busy with Li Ze’s art exhibition for two days, and only now had time to drill into the studio to see how his little student was progressing.

Chu Zhaoyi took a stack of paintings out of the cabinet and placed them on the table, then went back to continue painting the one he was currently working on.

That stack was what he had painted this week, and under Professor Qin’s guidance, there had been qualitative progress. The time was written at the bottom of each painting, specifically down to the hour of the day.

Professor Qin knew that Chu Zhaoyi liked quiet, so he didn’t disturb him, and flipped through the paintings one by one.

Chu Zhaoyi’s progress was visible to the naked eye. The paintings arranged according to time showed different degrees of improvement compared to the previous one.

Professor Qin nodded in satisfaction. As expected, he had a high talent. He could comprehend some things very well after he had said them once, and even some things that were difficult to describe in words, Chu Zhaoyi could understand as soon as he learned them.

“Very good! In a few days, I’m afraid I won’t have anything to teach you.” Professor Qin exclaimed.

Chu Zhaoyi didn’t give him a look, holding a paintbrush in his hand, frowning and pondering, completely different from his usual casual and quick painting state.

Professor Qin was used to Chu Zhaoyi’s coldness, and his eyes followed Chu Zhaoyi’s line of sight to the painting on the easel.

The painting depicted two young men. The red-haired young man was sitting on the bed, his face blurred, with only a vague outline drawn. On the other hand, the young man squatting by the bed was depicted in detail, even the strands of hair were carefully outlined.

The eyes of the young man squatting by the bed were full of helplessness and indulgence, one hand stroking the other young man’s cheek, while the hand hidden behind his back held a bunch of bright red roses.

It was obvious that the person in the painting was Gu Yusen.

This was a rare emotional expression in Chu Zhaoyi’s paintings, unlike those twisted lines entangled with all kinds of bizarre and terrifying things, but like sunshine pouring down, bringing a touch of warm comfort.

“This painting is good, but it may not be suitable for the competition.” Professor Qin admitted that the work Chu Zhaoyi was painting now was undoubtedly beautiful, but an excellent painting should always express something deeper.

He saw the feelings of two young men in this painting.

But this was not very suitable for a formal competition.

Chu Zhaoyi gave him a strange look. He would never use Brother Sanmu for competition. This was a blasphemy to him!

He looked around and grabbed a piece of paper from the ground and handed it to Professor Qin.

Professor Qin’s mouth twitched. Wasn’t the ground full of waste paper? But his hand honestly opened it and looked at it carefully.

This painting was a standard competition work. He had painted an oil painting in a proper manner, without too much expression of his own emotions, but every stroke revealed the painter’s deep foundation and superb skills. From the delicate brushstrokes to the rich color layers, from the precise composition to the vivid light and shadow performance, all demonstrated the painter’s excellent ability.

Chu Zhaoyi’s paintings always revealed his current emotions, and sometimes the first half was a cheerful tone, and the second half suddenly darkened, but it didn’t seem strange.

But this painting was like a normal work.

It was enough to participate in the preliminary competition.

Professor Qin breathed a sigh of relief. He was worried that there would be problems taking Chu Zhaoyi’s emotionally strange paintings out. They were beautiful, but they didn’t conform to the values of the public. If there was a judge with a narrow vision, it would be a loss to pass it directly.

This painting was quite satisfactory, and somewhat different from Chu Zhaoyi’s usual painting style.

“Okay.” Professor Qin nodded after a long while, putting the painting aside. He knew Chu Zhaoyi’s temperament. He hated trouble, so the entire process of the competition was done by Professor Qin himself for Chu Zhaoyi. Chu Zhaoyi was only responsible for painting.

Chu Zhaoyi still didn’t say much, just refining the painting on the easel, his expression focused.

Professor Qin didn’t like to be disturbed when he was painting himself, so he tactfully took Chu Zhaoyi’s preliminary competition work and left.

Chu Zhaoyi painted regardless of everything, but Gu Yusen forcibly dragged him to have a bite of lunch, and then went back to the dormitory to rest for a while, until 2:30 in the afternoon before letting him go to the studio.

Chu Zhaoyi painted this painting for a whole day. When the last stroke was finished, the sky outside was completely dark.

Gu Yusen had something to do, so he asked Chu Zhaoyi to wait in the studio for ten minutes.

Chu Zhaoyi was a little bored, so he simply stuffed the stack of paintings he had taken out for Professor Qin to check in the morning back into the cabinet, and slowly put on his coat and walked out of the studio. He had been painting all day, and his brain was a little dazed.

But he didn’t expect to see Xie Haoran at the end of the corridor as soon as he went out.

Xie Haoran initially noticed that the lights were on in Professor Qin’s studio. He happened to be here so late today to deliver something to Teacher Li Ze, and just happened to see it, so naturally he was a little curious.

Who was the student Professor Qin had taken in this year? This mystery had been guessed eight hundred times by the students on the forum.

Xie Haoran simply lingered a little longer, but he didn’t expect to really wait for him.

But what he didn’t expect was that the person who came out of the door was actually an acquaintance.

Chu Zhaoyi’s gaze fell on Xie Haoran and then passed over him lightly, not intending to say hello.

He locked the door of the studio and put the key in his pocket.

“Chu Zhaoyi! What are you doing here?” Perhaps it was because he couldn’t believe it, or perhaps it was for other reasons, Xie Haoran walked up to Chu Zhaoyi with a stiff smile.

Chu Zhaoyi’s dark eyes had no emotion, and were faintly strange in the dark night.

He looked at Xie Haoran for a long time.

So long that Xie Haoran thought he wouldn’t answer his question.

“Painting.” Chu Zhaoyi withdrew his gaze, feeling bored, and gave a casual answer.

“If I remember correctly, this is Professor Qin’s personal studio.” Xie Haoran’s tone was quite probing.

    “Can’t you tell?”

    “I am Professor Qin’s student.”

Chu Zhaoyi rarely showed a vile smile, satisfied to see Xie Haoran’s increasingly ugly face.

    Jealousy

    Greed

Will always be the deepest level of human nature, the root of inferiority that cannot be abandoned.

The self-righteous “superior,” who had been held up high in the class for so long, now discovered that the person he looked down on the most was actually a hundred times stronger than him.

What kind of expression would he show?

Chu Zhaoyi’s probing gaze fell on Xie Haoran’s face.

At the moment his voice fell, Xie Haoran’s eyes froze instantly, his pupils dilated slightly, revealing an expression of disbelief and shock. The corners of his mouth slowly drooped, and the face that habitually wore a confident smile became stiff and dim at this moment.

His eyebrows began to tighten unconsciously, forming several obvious wrinkles, showing the struggle and unwillingness in his heart.

In the end, this expression froze into a complex look that mixed embarrassment, frustration, and even a hint of hidden anger and humiliation.

    Quite interesting.
