    Chapter 53: “It’s Delicious”

“Zhaoyi! Long time no see, why have you been absent lately?” Chu Zhaoyi had barely entered the school gate when an arm draped over his shoulder from behind.

A familiar tone, it was Zhang Haoyu.

“Did something happen at home?” Zhang Haoyu hadn’t seen Chu Zhaoyi for a week. When roll call came and the teacher said he was on leave, he found out about it.

Taking leave from A University was quite difficult, the rules were strict, so a long leave usually meant something big had happened.

“Nothing,” Chu Zhaoyi subtly shifted his body, evading Zhang Haoyu’s hand.

Zhang Haoyu knew Chu Zhaoyi’s personality, but if something happened at home, Gu Yusen would help. After being educated by others, he roughly understood the status of the Gu family. Every time he saw that he actually had the contact information of the Gu family heir, he felt a little apprehensive.

“Did you eat egg pancakes today?” Zhang Haoyu glanced at the bag in Chu Zhaoyi’s hand and grinned. Chu Zhaoyi had brought him breakfast a few times before. According to Li Yu, the breakfast Chu Zhaoyi brought was outrageously expensive. After he found out, he didn’t dare to eat it often.

Luckily, Chu Zhaoyi hadn’t been to class lately, otherwise, he would have been too embarrassed to refuse.

“Yeah, from the school gate,” Chu Zhaoyi nodded, his gaze landing on Zhang Haoyu’s face.

He noticed the momentary stiffness in Zhang Haoyu’s expression after hearing his answer.

Zhang Haoyu wasn’t someone who could control his expressions.

Chu Zhaoyi took a bite of the egg pancake in his hand: “It’s delicious.”

Zhang Haoyu looked at the boy’s earnest appearance, and for some reason, his eyes felt a little sore.

Before entering this school, he had never cared about so-called social classes, but in the past month at this school, the word “class” was particularly evident.

The teachers were naturally serious and responsible.

The classmates were well-mannered and wouldn’t openly show their disdain for him, but the contempt in their eyes couldn’t be hidden.

Zhang Haoyu came from a single-parent family. His mother had built her stall on egg pancakes, supporting him all the way. To allow him to enter a better school, she resolutely chose to spend money to support him in studying this major after discovering his talent in painting.

Before, he never felt that this was something to be ashamed of, and he was even proud countless times that he had such a good mother.

But in the past month, he had become confused. His life in the dormitory wasn’t easy. Li Yu tried hard to curry favor with Xie Haoran, and Xie Haoran, the class monitor, was generally considered humble and kind, a good person.

But Zhang Haoyu was his roommate, so how could he not feel the condescension emanating from his bones?

In high school, he was the most talented painter in the class, and the teachers would always pat him on the shoulder and say he was a good seed.

But in college, he found that his so-called talent seemed particularly insignificant among these people.

It was okay at first, but Li Yu went crazy and discovered that the egg pancake vendor at the gate knew his mother, and directly posted this on the forum.

    In a mocking manner.

Zhang Haoyu didn’t think this was a shameful thing.

But the comments on the forum weren’t friendly.

He slowly began to doubt himself, and feelings of inferiority grew in his heart.

He had seen similar situations on video software countless times and had held his mother’s arm, saying that he would never do such a thing and that his mother was the person he was most proud of.

    But now?

He stood not far from his mother’s stall.

    Unable to move his feet.

Chu Zhaoyi usually ate slowly and couldn’t eat much. Now, after taking three or four bites, he tied up the bag and put it in his pocket.

Seeing the countless emotions flitting across Zhang Haoyu’s face, he said faintly, “There are twenty minutes until class.”

Zhang Haoyu looked into Chu Zhaoyi’s dark eyes and suddenly grinned, revealing a row of neat teeth.

“It’s delicious, right? My mom made it.”

    Chu Zhaoyi nodded.

“I have something to do, you go to the classroom first, Zhaoyi,” Zhang Haoyu said, as if he couldn’t wait, and waved goodbye, running in the opposite direction of the teaching building.

Chu Zhaoyi stood in place for a minute.

He saw a tall young man standing at the egg pancake stall, next to the slightly thin stall owner.

Chu Zhaoyi touched the faintly warm egg pancake in his pocket and turned to walk towards the studio.
