Chapter 41: Can’t Shake Him Off, Huh?
Gu’s father and mother returned yesterday. After resting for a bit, their original plan was to visit Chu Zhaoyi. After all, they hadn’t really taken care of him since the adoption.
Speaking of which, they felt guilty towards this child. But the affairs in the other city were too complicated, and they couldn’t free themselves up for the time being. They had originally planned to stay there for at least three months.
Suddenly, the Chu family had this incident, and they rushed to finish their work in a month and hurried back.
But Gu Yusen said that Chu Zhaoyi had a few more classes on Friday, and they should wait until Saturday when he would bring him back with him. So they gave up on that idea, and this morning they ran to the supermarket to buy a pile of groceries and snacks.
Actually, they had seen Chu Zhaoyi before, when Chu’s father saved their grandfather. They had visited the family to express their gratitude.
Back then, Chu Zhaoyi was a bit rounder than he is now, and he had just started junior high school. He stood at the bedroom door, curiously looking at them, his beautiful eyes full of curiosity. Those eyes, clear and bright, were like two carefully carved obsidian stones, sparkling with curiosity towards them as outsiders.
But he was quite introverted, standing timidly to the side, not daring to approach.
The boy hadn’t fully developed yet, and he had long hair. It was funny, they even made a joke, thinking the child was a girl.
Later, they found out that he was a handsome little boy.
Back then, they felt that Chu Zhaoyi had good looks, and that when he grew up, his appearance would definitely not be bad.
Sure enough.
Gu’s father was a man of few words. He went home and took a bag of groceries to the kitchen to cook.
Today, he specifically gave the family’s servant a day off, knowing that Chu Zhaoyi’s situation was special and he didn’t like to be around strangers.
Chu Zhaoyi held Gu Yusen’s hand and didn’t let go, staring at Gu’s father’s back as he took a bag of groceries to the kitchen, not knowing what he was thinking.
“Zhaoyi, I’m really sorry. Your uncle and I have been too busy these past few months. When your family had that kind of accident, we should have arrived in time,” Gu’s mother noticed Chu Zhaoyi’s tension and stopped making overly intimate gestures.
Chu Zhaoyi stared blankly at Gu’s mother’s face. Gu Yusen was good-looking, largely because he resembled his mother. A grand slam actress’s appearance was definitely something to be said for.
He looks so much like her.
Gu’s mother waited for a long time for Chu Zhaoyi to respond. Before she could think too much, Gu Yusen spoke up to explain.
“Mom, it’s okay, he doesn’t like to talk much.”
Gu’s mother saw Chu Zhaoyi’s dark eyes, which were completely different from the bright eyes she had seen before.
They knew everything that Officer Liu had found out. In the reports, Chu’s father and mother were known for their harmonious and loving relationship, and they treated their only son very well. After her son had that kind of accident at school, Chu’s mother resigned from her job and took good care of him at home.
But fate didn’t go as they wished, and hardship once again fell on this child. Three years ago, he lost his hearing.
Someone had been following and reporting on the Chu family’s affairs. The Chu family’s affection and care for their only son won widespread praise from netizens, so much so that their small company’s reputation soared for a period of time, and their business improved a lot.
Plus, with the Gu family’s intentional or unintentional help, the Chu family was developing well.
It’s just that this kind of accident happened, and a good family was completely destroyed.
But from Gu’s mother’s perspective, Chu’s father gave her a very strange feeling. When he saved their grandfather, he could have asked for a lot of money, but he didn’t. He even called specifically to express his gratitude and refusal after realizing that the Gu family was intentionally or unintentionally helping his family’s business.
He didn’t reciprocate favors with gratitude.
He was a good person.
Gu’s father had always had a good opinion of this person.
But Gu’s mother always felt that something was strange. The feeling Chu’s father and mother gave her made her feel… weird.
It wasn’t until the police station found out the information that she suddenly realized where the strangeness she had always felt came from.
What’s fake is fake after all. The loving relationship that the two deliberately acted out was full of weirdness.
Chu’s father was frequently renting rooms outside, leading a debauched life, and Chu’s mother was not as loving and caring as she claimed to be. She said she was taking care of her son full-time at home.
It’s ridiculous that under her care, her son had a fever of over 104 degrees Fahrenheit, and she didn’t notice it for who knows how long, until he suddenly lost his hearing and was rushed to the hospital.
“How are this child’s ears?” Gu’s mother knew that Gu Yusen had recently taken the boy to see a psychologist and to treat his ears. Seeing the hearing aid on the boy’s left ear, she couldn’t help but ask.
“The right ear is more severe. The left ear can barely hear with a hearing aid. The doctor said to slowly nurse it for a period of time, and after the condition stabilizes, we can try surgery,” Gu Yusen replied.
“Okay, when the hospital says surgery is possible, we’ll arrange for experts to perform the surgery, so we can be at ease.”
“That’s what I’m thinking too,” Gu Yusen nodded. He had already searched for famous experts in this field across the country. He had found one, but the schedule couldn’t be arranged.
But as long as enough money is spent, it’s not a problem.
Gu’s mother suspiciously looked at her son. Gu Yusen always looked cheerful and approachable on the outside, but as a mother, how could she not know?
Gu Yusen was a bit cold in his bones. He looked approachable, but in reality, he wasn’t. Over the years, he only had one or two friends by his side.
He still acts like a human being in front of outsiders.
But in reality, he was like his father, impatient and bossy.
It was rare to see him taking care of someone like this.
Gu Yusen inexplicably understood what his mother meant, coughed lightly, and wanted to touch his nose, but found that one hand was tightly grasped by Chu Zhaoyi and couldn’t be pulled out, so he had to touch his nose with the other hand.
God knows why he could have so much patience for this little guy who coveted him, doing everything personally. Even his own son didn’t have this treatment.
This meal was relatively quiet. Chu Zhaoyi was not an easy person to communicate with, and he was very defensive towards everyone except Gu Yusen.
Don’t think that he’s been hanging out with Professor Qin all day recently, but if Professor Qin’s hand tries to touch his head, this person will immediately take three steps back and look at him with vigilance.
Gu Yusen has suspected more than once that Professor Qin is just a tool in Chu Zhaoyi’s eyes.
He only remembered the four words “respecting teachers and valuing the Dao” after he kept pulling his ears and educating him every day.
Gu’s parents had previously wanted to ask for Chu Zhaoyi’s opinion on whether he wanted to live with them in the old house in the future.
But after this meeting today, they were rarely at a loss. Gu Yusen was a wild child, and they didn’t worry much about him.
So their parenting experience was also pitifully small.
The two secretly went to the bedroom to discuss for ten minutes and came to an agreement.
They felt that Gu Yusen also had the talent to be a father… oh, no, a brother.
Gu Yusen met Gu’s mother’s pitiful expression and sneered.
Damn it.
Can’t shake him off, huh?
