Chapter 4: Whoever says this younger brother isn’t good is completely wrong, this younger brother is amazing
The doctor put Chu Zhaoyi on an IV drip. Since the death of his parents, the young man’s body had been severely depleted. He was like a walking corpse living in this world.
The meals prepared for the past three days were only casually eaten a few bites before being sent back outside the door by their owner.
His appetite was too small.
At this rate, when would his body recover?
Gu Yusen stared at Chu Zhaoyi slowly bringing food to his mouth, spoonful by spoonful. Ten minutes passed, and not a single shred of that bowl of porridge had been harmed.
Chu Zhaoyi lost his appetite after two bites. Because Gu Yusen kept staring at him, he could only reluctantly take small bites. But after eating just a couple more bites, his stomach began to feel nauseous.
He didn’t want to eat.
Gu Yusen sighed deeply.
Was raising a younger brother this… taxing for everyone else?
[Can’t eat anymore?]
Gu Yusen held up his phone with these words displayed in front of him.
Chu Zhaoyi nodded and rightfully placed the bowl on the cabinet.
[Don’t you like the bedroom I prepared for you?]
Seeing this question, Chu Zhaoyi slowly raised his head and met Gu Yusen’s slightly furrowed brow. He turned his head and scanned the room.
Now that it was daytime, the entire layout of the bedroom was in full view. The walls were covered with posters of basketball stars that young people loved, all familiar faces.
A basketball was even placed in the corner of the bedroom.
These were things that boys of this age would like, and even heirs raised in large families enjoyed these things.
It was evident that the owner had a slight case of obsessive-compulsive disorder; everything was neatly arranged in its designated place.
The only thing that seemed out of place was an old, worn-out backpack lying on the floor.
It was Chu Zhaoyi’s.
Inside were his few belongings: two changes of clothes and a family photo display.
“Brother Sanmu, stay with me.” Chu Zhaoyi scanned the room before finally fixing his gaze back on Gu Yusen.
The young man’s voice was clean and clear, without a trace of impurity, just like his beautiful peach blossom eyes, which seemed to reveal an ocean of clarity at first glance.
This wasn’t the attitude one would expect from someone meeting an unpleasant person for the first time.
Anyone unaware of the situation would have truly thought they were brothers with a close relationship.
“You’re so old, and you still need someone to stay with you. Seriously, you even want to sleep in my bedroom when I prepared one for you, but you won’t sleep in it yourself,” Gu Yusen muttered, but his hands were honestly typing.
[Are you scared to be alone?]
Chu Zhaoyi stared at Gu Yusen’s face, watching his lips move for a long time, but the words he typed were just a few short characters.
What was he saying?
What tone was he using?
He wanted to know.
He really wanted to know.
“I’m scared. Brother Sanmu, don’t leave me alone, or I’ll die,” the young man gently placed one hand on Gu Yusen’s outstretched palm, his fingertips rubbing against it with some fondness.
His voice was soft and gentle,
But the words he spoke were strange.
“Strong self-destructive tendencies” flashed through Gu Yusen’s mind. Recalling the three days the young man had spent alone, Gu Yusen felt a chill run down his spine.
People who had never encountered mental illness patients would find it difficult to understand the meaning of these words.
Emotions that were easily controlled by ordinary people, such as jealousy, greed, fear, and joy, would all become sharp knives aimed at Chu Zhaoyi. These emotions would control the young man and lead him down an uncontrollable path.
That’s why his mother had stayed home from work all these years, accompanying Chu Zhaoyi day in and day out, rarely even going out. As for school, he had been specially approved to attend a few days a week.
He was specially admitted to A University as an art prodigy through the Gao Kao.
Chu Zhaoyi was like a fragile life, and even the slightest external stimulus could lead to his demise.
Therefore, his parents had no choice but to keep him at home to protect him.
But perhaps that was counterproductive?
Wasn’t it a problem to be isolated from the outside world for too long?
Gu Yusen thought about all of this, his mind in a mess. He didn’t understand any of it. He would find a psychologist and ask.
One thing he had always found strange was that the Chu family wasn’t extremely wealthy, but they weren’t poor either. They owned a small company. Since they cared so much about their only son, even to the point of spending so much time with him,
Why hadn’t they ever hired a psychologist? And what was the reason for his hearing loss? Was it congenital? It didn’t seem like it. Chu Zhaoyi could communicate normally with people, which proved that he should have had hearing as a child.
What was the reason that led to his hearing loss?
If it was acquired, there should be some form of treatment available.
Had his parents taken him to see a doctor?
Chu Zhaoyi was shrouded in layers of mystery, all of which were buried with the death of his parents.
Gu Yusen rubbed his throbbing temples.
Did that mean he had to watch Chu Zhaoyi around the clock without a break?
What a bloody nuisance.
Seeing Gu Yusen’s pained expression, Chu Zhaoyi sulkily retracted his hand, burrowed into the blanket, and closed his eyes.
He looked like he was refusing to communicate.
He had a bigger temper than he did.
Gu Yusen thought that hearing-impaired patients were very willful. When they didn’t want to communicate, they would simply close their eyes, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. They could only fret and fume by themselves.
And of all times, his irresponsible parents called at this moment.
“Son, we won’t be able to come back for a while. How is A-Yi doing? Is he doing okay? In principle, we should go back, but we really can’t leave this partner we’re working with right now. Please take care of him a little, okay?”
Gu Yusen had originally planned to wash his hands of the whole thing once his parents returned, but his mother hung up the phone right after saying those words. It was supposed to be a request,
But now it felt more like a notification…
Gu Yusen expressionlessly put away his phone, his gaze landing on a sulky figure buried in the blanket.
He had no sense of being an uninvited guest.
Resigned to his fate, Gu Yusen picked up Chu Zhaoyi’s little backpack, took out the contents, and tidied it up. He planned to wash the clothes the young man had worn these past few days and put them in the closet.
Seeing that the only thing in the backpack besides a few changes of clothes was a photo frame, he took it out and placed it on his bedside table.
He also placed the clothes that the housekeeper had prepared on the bedside, including the young man’s underwear.
Nineteen-year-old Gu Yusen felt like he was an old nanny taking care of someone.
Even though he was only a year younger, it felt like he was raising a son.
Oh well, considering how good-looking he was,
He would reluctantly take care of his younger brother.
After Gu Yusen finished doing all of this, he pulled the young man out of the blanket.
[Brother will stay with you, so be good, okay?]
Chu Zhaoyi was easily coaxed by these words.
“Brother Sanmu, I’m very good. I’ll just follow you obediently, and I won’t cause you any trouble.”
The young man blinked his eyes, his long eyelashes casting a shadow.
Gu Yusen’s Yan Kong (fondness of beautiful faces) attribute faintly flared up.
Whoever says this younger brother isn’t good is completely wrong, this younger brother is amazing.
“Can I sleep in Brother’s bedroom?”
Gu Yusen nodded.
“Can you take me with you wherever you go tomorrow, Brother?”
Gu Yusen nodded.
“Can Brother sleep with me tonight? I’m a little scared.”
Gu Yusen nodded.
Lost in a series of “Brother”s, he lost himself and agreed to a series of strange requests.
That night, Gu Yusen lay in his bed, with a strange presence beside him.
He had insomnia.
God knows why he had let someone he had only known for five days sleep in his bed.
He would kick his own father off his bed if he tried to get on it.
