Chapter 28: Roommates
Reaching the dormitory entrance, Gu Yusen finally felt the strength of the hand he held weaken slightly.
The dormitory building was quieter and less crowded than outside.
Their room was empty, with only bedding laid out on bed number one, suggesting someone had arrived but was currently out.
Chu Zhaoyi’s bed was number four, a decent location. Gu Yusen didn’t expect his little friend to make his bed. The boy didn’t have any common sense.
He started making it himself.
He handed Chu Zhaoyi a tablet, telling him to draw for a while to pass the time.
As he was halfway through, a faint sound came from the doorway. Gu Yusen sat on the bed and looked over, seeing a handsome young man standing there, a hint of nervousness and curiosity on his face, typical of someone arriving for the first time.
“Hello, I’m Zhang Haoyu from bed number one,” the young man said, his voice slightly strained but quickly returning to normal, as he greeted the people inside politely.
“Hello,” Gu Yusen nodded.
Once Chu Zhaoyi started drawing, he would become completely immersed in his own world, with almost no awareness of his surroundings. He didn’t react at all to the new roommate.
“Ayi, our roommate’s here, say hello,” Gu Yusen grabbed a long object and reached down from the bed to tap the boy’s head.
“…Hello, my name is Chu Zhaoyi,” Chu Zhaoyi looked up from the tablet, slowly focusing his gaze on the new roommate. He simply stated his name and then looked away.
He seemed unwilling to interact much.
Zhang Haoyu noticed Chu Zhaoyi’s aloofness and felt a bit awkward. It seemed like this roommate wouldn’t be easy to get along with…
“Sorry, he’s a bit introverted and doesn’t like to talk much,” Gu Yusen said, trying to smooth things over for his little friend.
“It’s okay, I understand, everyone has a different personality.”
“Are you…? Chu Zhaoyi’s brother?” It wasn’t appropriate for three people to be in the same room without saying anything, so Zhang Haoyu looked for another topic.
“Yes, I’m his brother. I came to drop him off at school.” Gu Yusen finished making the bed, climbed down, and still held a rag.
“You brothers have a really good relationship,” Zhang Haoyu said with some emotion. It was common for parents to come and drop off students, but rare to see brothers having a relationship good enough to make the bed for each other.
Gu Yusen smiled and didn’t say much. He walked over and patted Chu Zhaoyi’s head.
“Your class has a meeting this afternoon, remember? Four o’clock in the afternoon, probably just to meet everyone. I have something to do and need to go see a teacher this afternoon. Be good on your own.”
“Okay…” Chu Zhaoyi gazed unhappily at the small vase on the desk, which Gu Yusen had placed there. In the vase was a vibrant red rose.
“If anything happens, call me. Have you memorized my phone number?”
“Yeah…”
“After the class meeting, come to teaching and research office 201 to find me. I’ll be there. I’ll probably be done with my business by the time your meeting is over, and I’ll take you home.”
“Okay.”
“I’ll take you out for a good meal tonight.”
“No, I want to go home.”
“You’re my little ancestor! If we go home, I’ll have to cook for you!” Gu Yusen hadn’t eaten out for a long time because of Chu Zhaoyi and he had to slave away in the kitchen.
Chu Zhaoyi looked at Gu Yusen, his face expressionless but his lips slightly downturned, clearly unhappy.
“Alright, your way it is.”
Gu Yusen nagged on and on like an old woman, still not at ease. After all, in the twenty days they had known each other, Chu Zhaoyi had always been within his sight when away from home, only leaving his presence for a maximum of five minutes, and even those five minutes had led to trouble.
Gu Yusen felt a headache coming on, terribly worried. He began to wonder if he shouldn’t have let him come to school.
But Mason had said that it was good for the patient to have more contact with the outside world.
“Zhang Haoyu, I’m also a student at A University, a sophomore in the finance department. My name is Gu Yusen. Can we add each other as friends? My brother might be a bit isolated, and I’m a bit worried. If anything happens, can you please contact me?”
Gu Yusen decided to target Chu Zhaoyi’s roommate.
Zhang Haoyu had a clear, innocent look on his face, like a typical college student. Moreover, he had probably checked out Chu Zhaoyi’s roommates beforehand and paid special attention to Zhang Haoyu. His family was a single-parent household, his mother selling egg pancakes to support him, even gritting her teeth to support his hobbies.
Zhang Haoyu was also promising, having been admitted to the best university in A City.
“Oh, oh, okay, I’ll scan you.” Zhang Haoyu was playing with his phone but subconsciously listened to the two brothers’ conversation. He was shocked by Gu Yusen’s motherly nature, never expecting to be involved. He quickly stood up and opened his chat app.
“Chu Zhaoyi, come add your roommate as a friend,” Gu Yusen called out.
Chu Zhaoyi took out his phone, opened his QR code, and held it out, looking at Zhang Haoyu.
He stood in line, waiting for him to add Brother Sanmu and then himself.
Zhang Haoyu scanned them one by one, wiping a non-existent sweat from his forehead. He didn’t know why, but he always felt a strong sense of pressure when facing Gu Yusen. He found it strange, since Gu Yusen was just a regular college student, always smiling.
Why was he so intimidated?
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care of Chu Zhaoyi,” Zhang Haoyu patted his chest, looking reliable.
Chu Zhaoyi heard his name and looked up, confused. He saw Zhang Haoyu confidently patting his chest, which was strangely funny.
Zhang Haoyu was stunned when he saw Chu Zhaoyi’s face. From the moment he entered, Chu Zhaoyi had barely looked up, and he hadn’t paid much attention during their initial greeting due to his nervousness.
Now, he realized that this young man was excessively handsome.
Despite sporting flamboyant red and white hair, his features were very well-behaved. His face seemed like nature’s most exquisite work of art. His eyes were large and clear, revealing a naivety that didn’t belong to his age. His features were delicate, combining to create a handsome face.
Oh.
So this is what it looks like when Nvwa finishes her capstone project.
Zhang Haoyu touched his own face.
Sob sob, if I pray in that direction, can I look like this in my next life?
