Chapter 20: Having Me Is Enough

Chu Zhaoyi didn’t like the police station, so he hurriedly dragged Gu Yusen out of there.

Gu Yusen was frighteningly silent the whole way, but Chu Zhaoyi didn’t notice anything was wrong. He sat in the passenger seat humming a little tune, immersed in his own happy mood.

    He could hear today.

He could hear Brother Sanmu’s voice.

The hearing aids might still need fine-tuning, so he would have to come back every now and then for adjustments.

The doctor helped Chu Zhaoyi put on the hearing aids and was about to ask a question when Chu Zhaoyi covered his mouth.

Gu Yusen raised an eyebrow. What was this kid doing? Nervous? Afraid he wouldn’t be able to hear, so he just covered someone else’s mouth?

This was a classic case of self-deception. He even said he didn’t care whether he could hear or not.

Look at him now, wasn’t he still nervous?

He was just about to tease him a little when Chu Zhaoyi pulled him into a booth.

With a “snap,” the door was tightly closed.

“Brother Sanmu promised me you’d call me A-Yi,” Chu Zhaoyi said, standing on tiptoe and covering Gu Yusen’s mouth, his bright eyes full of anticipation.

Gu Yusen’s promise before might have just been a casual one.

But so what? He said he would call him A-Yi.

    Not a fierce “Chu Zhaoyi.”

It was A-Yi, the sparkling A-Yi.

Gu Yusen remembered his promise. His gaze fell on Chu Zhaoyi, whose face showed some anxiety as he waited for a response.

    “Brother Sanmu…”

Chu Zhaoyi was extremely anxious, but he didn’t dare take his hand away. He thought that the first voice he heard would be Gu Yusen’s, that Gu Yusen would call him A-Yi very gently.

    He promised, he promised.

Gu Yusen gently took Chu Zhaoyi’s hand, which had very little flesh and was even a little cold, and held it in his own.

    “A-Yi.”

Three years after losing his hearing, Chu Zhaoyi was once again in contact with the outside world.

It was the slight but clearly audible sound of the fan turning, and the faint sound of messy and blurred conversations coming from outside. The sounds intertwined.

The clearest was Gu Yusen’s voice. The voice of the just twenty-year-old boy was low and magnetic, with a clear timbre. Every word seemed carefully carved. The two words “A-Yi” came out of his mouth.

Chu Zhaoyi’s heart jumped suddenly, as if struck by an electric current. He couldn’t help but reach out and put his hand over his heart, feeling the accelerated beating, almost leaping out of his chest.

Gu Yusen saw that Chu Zhaoyi hadn’t reacted for a long time and thought there was a problem with the hearing aids. He was a little worried. “Can you hear me? A-Yi?”

Chu Zhaoyi suddenly jumped onto Gu Yusen, hanging on him like a koala.

    “Brother Sanmu.”

    “I can hear.”

It was different from what he imagined. It wasn’t the seemingly fierce appearance, but a low and warm voice.

“Scary, I thought I couldn’t hear,” Gu Yusen breathed a sigh of relief, catching the person steadily as Chu Zhaoyi jumped on him.

How old was he, and he still wanted to be held like this?

Gu Yusen muttered in his heart, but his hands were very honestly supporting Chu Zhaoyi’s body, letting his weight rest on him, saving him the effort.

    “I like you.”

    “I like Brother Sanmu.”

Chu Zhaoyi, relying on Gu Yusen’s indulgence, rubbed his fluffy head against Gu Yusen’s neck.

    Saying straightforward words.

    Not reserved at all.

Gu Yusen’s ears were red, but he refused to be forgiving.

    “Chu Zhaoyi, you’re not reserved.”

“A-Yi, you have me from now on. Having me is enough from now on.”

Let the perfect utopia that the Chu family created for you dissipate into the air with the death of Chu’s parents.

Next, Chu Zhaoyi, having me is enough.

    Having Gu Yusen is enough.

[Little Gu is about to start self-brainwashing. A-Yi’s ‘like’ is not that kind of ‘like’.]
