Chapter 181: The Eve of the Surgery

The two of them simply settled down at the Xie’s residence. Every morning, Gu Yusen would take Chu Zhaoyi to the gym for exercise as usual, occasionally running into Xie Tingyun and Xie Yuyin.

However, whenever he encountered those two, Chu Zhaoyi wouldn’t show any signs of fatigue. Only after they left would he collapse onto Gu Yusen, too tired to move.

    Such a vain child.

Fortunately, Xie Yuyin and Xie Tingyun woke up even earlier. By the time they came over, the two of them had basically finished their workout.

Initially, Chu Zhaoyi would run out of energy after moving for only ten minutes or so, but he gradually improved.

Gu Yusen, seeing that it was working, insisted on fooling around with Chu Zhaoyi at night, claiming to be verifying the results of the exercise.

Whenever Chu Zhaoyi was on the verge of collapsing from being tossed around, Gu Yusen would promptly notice and stop, leaving Chu Zhaoyi with no time to get angry.

It angered him so much that he painted for several days but didn’t draw another picture of Gu Yusen.

Gu Yusen knew his little quirks, and he also knew that he was a bit unrestrained. But having just tasted the forbidden fruit, he couldn’t control himself, so he placed a vase by the bedroom window as well.

In just a few days, he had already filled it with several rose flowers.

Three days before the surgery, Gu Yusen stopped his exercise plan and didn’t drag him into fooling around late at night.

The day before the surgery, the group took Chu Zhaoyi to the hospital, where Liu Haitao’s assistant gave him a comprehensive examination.

Chu Zhaoyi had some minor issues, such as a relatively weak stomach that needed careful nurturing, otherwise, it could easily develop into stomach problems.

He was slightly malnourished, and he couldn’t be picky when eating, as he lacked many nutrients.

They were all minor problems, nothing major.

Liu Haitao glanced at it, saw no problems, and scheduled the surgery for nine o’clock the next morning.

Gu Yusen anxiously watched over Chu Zhaoyi, who had to stay in the hospital overnight.

Gu Yusen stayed with him that night. Zhang Anru’s health wasn’t good, so she went back first. Xie Yuyin had to handle some affairs of the Xie family and had to go to the company in the afternoon, then came back for a visit in the evening.

But she was a girl, and it wasn’t convenient for her to stay there at night, so she went back with Zhang Anru.

However, Xie Tingyun also stayed there with Gu Yusen all night.

There was a companion bed in the VIP ward, so they could sleep comfortably.

Gu Yusen was even more nervous than Chu Zhaoyi himself, and he held Chu Zhaoyi’s hand all night, refusing to let go.

Chu Zhaoyi’s body temperature was always low, and it took a long time to warm up his hands and feet. During the IV drip, Gu Yusen put a hot water bottle next to Chu Zhaoyi’s hand and warmed the IV tube with his own hand.

    So considerate.

Xie Tingyun watched from the side, feeling both satisfied and heartbroken.

His own son hadn’t experienced much warmth from his family, yet his boyfriend was taking care of him so thoughtfully and meticulously.

    Alas.

After receiving the IV drip during the day and drinking a lot of water, Chu Zhaoyi got up to use the restroom at night. He made sure not to disturb Gu Yusen, who had finally fallen asleep after being anxious all night. Chu Zhaoyi didn’t want to wake him up.

But he didn’t expect Xie Tingyun to be sitting not far from the hospital bed, doing something.

Chu Zhaoyi checked the time: three in the morning.

The hospital at three in the morning was as quiet as the deep sea, with only the rhythmic beeping of metal instruments.

    What was he doing?

Chu Zhaoyi had some instruments attached to him to monitor his body data. Xie Tingyun was sitting in front of the large screen displaying the data, staring at it. In his hand was Chu Zhaoyi’s medical report from today.

Chu Zhaoyi didn’t make any movement, and Xie Tingyun didn’t notice anything.

Chu Zhaoyi watched him for a long time, but he remained in the same position, unmoving.

Xie Tingyun’s nape was slightly hunched, and his suit pants still had the wrinkles from waiting on the bench outside the ward during the day—he always paid the most attention to his clothes being crisp and neat.

He always looked expressionless, unlike Gu Yusen, whose nervousness was written all over his face, always hovering around Chu Zhaoyi all afternoon.

Xie Tingyun wasn’t like that. He always stood quietly on the side, watching, but the water he handed over was always lukewarm, just right for drinking.

He was somewhat different from Zhang Anru. Zhang Anru’s concern and love were always apparent on the surface, which Chu Zhaoyi could see at a glance.

But he always stood there mutely.

Chu Zhaoyi vaguely understood the appearance of a “father,” like a silent mountain, quietly guarding everything about his child.

It seemed to fit the stereotypical image of a father.
