Chapter 10: A Sign of Reconciliation

Gu Yusen couldn’t guess what was on Chu Zhaoyi’s mind, and Chu Zhaoyi made it clear he wouldn’t tell him.

He could only stew over it himself, driving distractedly until they arrived at the hearing aid store, and he still hadn’t fully snapped out of it.

“Brother Sanmu!” Chu Zhaoyi shouted loudly, trying to get Gu Yusen’s attention.

Gu Yusen felt like he was going deaf.

“If you shout any louder, I’ll need hearing aids too!” Gu Yusen said expressionlessly, pushing Chu Zhaoyi’s face away.

“What are you doing? I can’t see what you’re saying,” Chu Zhaoyi said, sitting in the passenger seat, pushed far away.

Gu Yusen gently released Chu Zhaoyi’s hand, then turned his body to make sure Chu Zhaoyi could clearly see his lip movements. He took a deep breath, adjusted his speaking speed, and then slowly opened his mouth, his tone carrying a hint of teasing and helplessness: “I said, you’re an idiot.”

“I’m not!” Chu Zhaoyi said unhappily, pushing open the car door and getting out.

He stood sulking by the car, refusing to move, and was directly dragged away by Gu Yusen.

To make the examination easier today, Chu Zhaoyi had specially gathered his long hair into a small braid. Gu Yusen found it amusing and couldn’t resist poking, touching, and grabbing it.

At first, Chu Zhaoyi ignored him, but later he found it annoying and turned his face away, sulking silently.

Gu Yusen followed Chu Zhaoyi inside, knowing that he wasn’t comfortable acting alone, and consciously stayed with him the entire time.

Chu Zhaoyi kept humming a little tune, attracting the attention of the staff. People kept looking at him, and apart from that reason, Gu Yusen felt that the child’s appearance and hair were also very attractive.

Chu Zhaoyi usually wasn’t willing to interact with strangers, relying on the fact that he was a “little deaf person” to ignore them. Gu Yusen even felt that it was because Chu Zhaoyi was too lazy to talk to others that he had never revealed that he understood lip-reading.

Gu Yusen dutifully took him through the examination, and by the end of the morning, he was exhausted. He turned his head and saw that Chu Zhaoyi was still humming his little tune.

Noticing that he was looking at him, he even turned his head and grinned.

Gu Yusen pushed Chu Zhaoyi’s face away expressionlessly.

“School starts in a week, Chu Zhaoyi, are you ready?”

    Chu Zhaoyi’s expression immediately fell.

He didn’t like going out, nor did he like going to school; there were too many people. He had to find a way to apply for exemption from classes.

Anyway, he had a mental illness; it wasn’t a big deal.

Thinking of this, he became happy again, but before the smile could fully return to his face, he heard Gu Yusen speak again.

“You’re not allowed to skip school. Your guardian is now my father, and I won’t indulge you in staying home all day. Staying at home for too long without anything to do will cause problems.”

“Besides, I think you’re in good shape right now.”

“Let’s get you checked out tomorrow and ask the doctor for recommendations.”

Chu Zhaoyi couldn’t smile at all. He turned his face away, refusing to communicate.

“What is Brother Sanmu saying? I can’t hear him.”

Gu Yusen knew he had seen what he said, and snorted coldly. He had several of someone’s examination forms in his hand, and he raised his hand to tap the teenager’s head.

    “Disobedient.”

Chu Zhaoyi was unhappy. He hugged his head and scooted to the side, moving away from him. He curled up on the chair, not caring that he was in public.

Why was Brother Sanmu forcing him to do things he didn’t like?

He hated him for ten minutes!

The surrounding crowd noticed Chu Zhaoyi’s unusual behavior and cast curious or concerned glances. In their eyes, someone suddenly curling up on a chair was indeed unusual, even making them wonder if he wasn’t feeling well.

Gu Yusen sighed and leaned over to touch Chu Zhaoyi’s head.

“Chu Zhaoyi, do I owe you money or something? All day long…”

The words he spoke were harsh, but he relied on Chu Zhaoyi having his head buried on one side so he couldn’t see his lip movements. His hands were very honestly typing on his phone.

    【Pay attention to Brother Sanmu】

He slipped the phone through the gap in Chu Zhaoyi’s arm, making sure the teenager could see the words on the screen.

Chu Zhaoyi moved a little but still didn’t react, and refused to give the phone back to Gu Yusen.

Gu Yusen lost the means to communicate with Chu Zhaoyi and was even more helpless. Couldn’t these hearing aids be immediately stuffed into Chu Zhaoyi’s ears right now?

He didn’t know who had spoiled this teenager’s bad habit of refusing to communicate at the slightest provocation.

Gu Yusen was furiously enraged, but he couldn’t get angry. He was thinking about finding some paper and a pen when he heard the teenager’s muffled voice in his ear.

“Brother Sanmu, giving me red roses is a sign of reconciliation.”
