    Chapter 198: Growing Old Together

The fluttering snowflakes finally slowed their assault and gradually ceased falling. It was midday in the Lijiang Mountains, the time of day when the fog was at its thinnest, yet Xie YunChuan still held Luo Shuyou’s hand tightly, not willing to let go even for a moment.

White Tiger Cub, now half the height of a person, bounded back and forth, clearing the path ahead. Every now and then, it would bump into a tree branch, showering the two people following closely behind with snow. “Qiuqiu, stop being naughty. Look at how you’ve covered us. We have to stop and brush off the snow, wasting time,” Luo Shuyou said helplessly. Even though neither he nor Xie YunChuan would get cold, they couldn’t just let the snow pile up on their heads and shoulders, falling down their necks, could they?

White Tiger Cub turned around, shaking its head provocatively and sticking out its tongue. “Lalala, Qiuqiu didn’t do it on purpose, the road is slippery because of the snow.” Then it darted off again, refusing to walk in a straight line, jumping up and down, kicking left and right.

Even Xie YunChuan, who didn’t understand beast language, could tell from its infuriating expression and its usual unrestrained gait that it was doing it on purpose, let alone Luo Shuyou, the little master who could understand its joyful meaning. The corners of Luo Shuyou’s lips curled up, and he compromised with a smile, “It’s really like letting a tiger return to the mountain, it can’t stay still for a moment.”

“It’s rare for it to run wild, just let it be.”

Xie YunChuan raised his right hand and made a gesture as if holding an umbrella. Vines extended and unfurled upwards from his palm, and a lush green rattan umbrella stood out vividly against the white snow.

Xie YunChuan pulled Luo Shuyou close to his side. Luo Shuyou found it amusing, “You didn’t hold an umbrella when it was snowing, but now that the snow has stopped, you’re starting to use one?”

Xie YunChuan smiled, “Saving some energy, who knows what we might encounter later.”

Luo Shuyou reached out and caught a clump of falling snow, crushed it, and let it fall to the ground as dry as before. The winter snow was sharp and cold, without a trace of warmth, so it wouldn’t wet his clothes.

“Don’t they say, ‘If we share the snow in the future, we can be considered to grow old together in this life’? You’re blocking all the snow outside, don’t you want to grow old with me?”

The same clump of snow became wet in Xie YunChuan’s hand, leaving behind traces of water that couldn’t fall away. “That’s a tragic poem, we don’t need it.”

“You like snow, so I’ll accompany you to see it. You like the touch of white when the snow falls on you, and I can accompany you to bathe in the snow,” Xie YunChuan turned his head and looked seriously into Luo Shuyou’s eyes, where a faint red glow seemed to be radiating from deep within. Xie YunChuan gently stroked the corner of Luo Shuyou’s eye with his left hand and said solemnly, “But our growing old together doesn’t need snow to replace it.”

Luo Shuyou was burned by the deep affection in those eyes, and his nose tingled. He quickly lowered his head, then turned around and started walking as if nothing had happened. “I will grow old, right?”

He didn’t say this while looking at Xie YunChuan, it was like asking him, and also… asking himself.

Growing old, is a natural aging process that only humans have, and Luo Shuyou, he felt that he was growing farther away from being human day by day. Zombies seemed to be an immortal species, and wouldn’t die naturally. For zombies, this might be the greatest advantage. But for Luo Shuyou, he just wanted to normally and naturally… accompany Xie YunChuan through the life of a normal human.

Xie YunChuan squeezed Luo Shuyou’s hand, his tone was firmer than ever before, “Yes, we will both grow old together. After a hundred years, I will be buried with you.” If not a hundred years, then we will die together.

Sharing life is difficult to obtain, sharing death can be sought.

“I feel like, the world is about to change,” Luo Shuyou said with a distant gaze, looking ahead, feeling the surge of various mixed auras.

The winter snow didn’t know when it would melt, and the wind and rain seemed to be impatient to come and sweep the world.

“The world is changing every day, it doesn’t matter,” Xie YunChuan replied.

“Is that so?” Luo Shuyou asked softly.

    “Yes.”

Luo Shuyou stopped walking, “ChuanChuan, I’m tired.”

Xie YunChuan squatted down, “I’ll carry you.”

White Tiger Cub had gone far away, and the snowflakes that it had startled had fallen intermittently before Xie YunChuan and Luo Shuyou arrived. Xie YunChuan put away the umbrella, supported Luo Shuyou with both hands, and walked forward steadily, one step at a time.

Luo Shuyou lay on Xie YunChuan’s back, his head buried low, his icy breath hitting the back of Xie YunChuan’s ear, “I remember, you often carried little zombies.”

“Yes. My Youyou has always been a spoiled baby,” Xie YunChuan didn’t mind Luo Shuyou deliberately distinguishing between his current self and the little zombie he used to be.

    “Do you like him?”

“Yes, I will always like Luo Shuyou. Forever!” Forever, no matter how far that forever is.

    “Xie YunChuan.”

    “Yes, I’m here.”

    “I love you.”

“I know,” Xie YunChuan tilted his head and rubbed the furry head on his shoulder, “I’ve always known.” I know that you have always loved me as much as I love you.

Luo Shuyou tightened his arms around Xie YunChuan’s neck, reached his right hand to Xie YunChuan’s left ear and kneaded his earlobe, lowered his eyes and thought: No, you don’t know, you don’t know that every me, loves you! Luo Shuyou, Little Zombie,… Luo, Wu, Shang!

White Tiger Cub arrived at the gap that Xie YunChuan had mentioned first, and its gaze was firmly drawn by the deep abyss surrounded by clouds and mist. For the vast ground, this was just a small crack on its surface, but in front of the tiny humans, it was a sinkhole with no visible depth or length.

    “Roar—!”

White Tiger Cub roared towards the bottom of the pit. The huge sound waves dissipated some of the haze, and a few pieces of gravel fell from the uneven surface of the pit. Only the falling was seen, no sound was heard.

“White Tiger Cub, can you sense anything below?” Luo Shuyou and Xie YunChuan arrived late.

White Tiger Cub jumped around Luo Shuyou twice, then stood on the edge of the cliff, its tiger palms spread out, and a steady stream of silver-white warm light extended down from the ground, but it seemed to be blocked by something along the way, constantly changing direction, and finally had to return without success.

White Tiger Cub shook its head at Luo Shuyou in frustration, retreated behind Luo Shuyou, secretly feeling depressed. It was all because Qiuqiu was useless, it was not easy for the little master to need it to do something, but it couldn’t do it~! Woo hoo!
