Chapter 179: The Wu Family of Li City

When Xie YunChuan and the others returned, they had two trembling figures supporting each other trailing behind them.

Gu Tangxi and Gu Tangyue, upon seeing this, thought, “…!” Good heavens, they’re even more ruthless than us, not even offering a helping hand.”

Taking another look, Xie YunChuan was leading the way with Luo Shuyou in tow, while Xu Yuzhe limped behind them. It seemed he had also sustained quite a few injuries. She then mused to herself, “Hmm… makes sense, there really aren’t any extra hands available to help those two strangers.”

With the crisis averted, Gu Tangyue quickly rebuilt the fire and had Gu Tangxi light it. If they got any colder, not to mention the injured lying motionless, even a perfectly healthy person like her would freeze to death.

As soon as Wu Zishan and Wu Zixiao entered, they spotted Wu Ziling lying on the ground. Their faces lit up with joy, and their heavy steps quickened slightly. They dragged themselves over to Wu Ziling’s side.

Wu Zishan approached and clumsily, slowly, helped Wu Ziling up from the ground, anxiously calling out, “Lingling, Lingling, how are you feeling? Are you alright?”

Dazed and confused, Wu Ziling slowly opened her eyelids as she was being shaken. She dared not truly fall unconscious. In this unfamiliar place, in front of two strangers, no one could guarantee what might happen. Although even awake, she was like a fish on a chopping board, at their mercy, at least she wouldn’t quietly pass away without even realizing it.

Through a haze of tears, it took her a few seconds to make out who was speaking. “Sister, you… you… don’t… don’t shake me, my… head hurts. Cold…”

Fragmented and faint, the words struggled to escape Wu Ziling’s mouth. Wu Zishan quickly leaned closer to hear what she was saying. She hurriedly stopped shaking her and frantically tried to move her closer to the fire, but with Wu Ziling covered in injuries and Wu Zishan herself in no better condition, the two of them were truly at a loss.

Wu Zixiao wanted to help from the side, but he was already exhausted and severely injured. He had only managed to hold on until now, and after finally releasing that breath of air, he had no strength left to move an inch.

Seeing their miserable state, Gu Tangxi was even thinking of giving them some space to have a private conversation, but who knew those three would just start dragging each other around right then and there?!

Gu Tangxi went over to help. Wu Zishan gave her a grateful look, and Wu Zixiao let go of his hand. He knew he couldn’t help and was only getting in the way.

After their struggles were over, Luo Shuyou had already healed Xu Yuzhe’s injuries. Luo Shuyou displayed a level three healing ability – neither high nor low.

Wu Ziling and Wu Zixiao exchanged glances. Wu Zixiao took out a level six zombie crystal core and said to Luo Shuyou, “Please save my sister. I can give you this crystal core.”

Wu Zixiao originally didn’t want to offer a level six crystal core right away, as it could easily expose his strength, but seeing how Xie YunChuan had easily dealt with those level five zombie monkeys, he figured anything lower wouldn’t catch their eye.

Luo Shuyou looked at Xie YunChuan. Xie YunChuan nodded, and Luo Shuyou ran to the two injured girls and asked, “Which one?”

Wu Zixiao paused. “Can’t you save both? It’s just healing injuries.”

It wasn’t as if he was asking him to purify zombie poison. A level six crystal core could buy healing for a hundred or eighty people from healing ability users in Li City. Healing ability users didn’t have much combat power and were far less scarce than purification ability users. Their only use was healing. Every family would support a few healing ability users. As for those scattered throughout the city who made a living by healing others, their prices weren’t high, almost dirt cheap. Most ability users would rather rest for a few days and rely on their strong self-healing abilities to recover than waste a crystal core. Normally, no one would use a level six crystal core in exchange for healing, as it wasn’t worth it. It wasn’t easy for anyone to go to a zombie gathering place and kill a level six zombie to obtain a crystal core.

If it weren’t for the heavy snow blocking the roads and the freezing weather, and Ziling’s extremely serious injuries, plus the fact that Xie YunChuan and the others had just saved them, even Wu Zixiao, from a large family, would be reluctant to use a level six crystal core in exchange for healing.

Luo Shuyou gave him a harmless smile and said mercilessly, “No, you have to pay more.”

What a joke! Save two with one level six crystal core? Was he trying to send a beggar away? When Luo Shuyou woke up, he had found several level six crystal cores and a level seven crystal core on him, which showed that level six crystal cores weren’t worth much at all. This man was a level seven ability user and definitely had more. Why was he trying to make him, his savior, work as a cheap laborer? This person was really sneaky and unreliable.

Clearly, Luo Shuyou’s perception of the value of crystal cores as currency was vastly different from Wu Zixiao’s.

Wu Zixiao’s face twitched suspiciously a few times. He reluctantly said, “Then save Ziling.” Wu Zixiao thought to himself that others had already gone back to get reinforcements. And the most vicious monster in the forest had already been dealt with by him. As long as he saved the seriously injured Ziling, it wouldn’t matter if he and Zishan slowly recovered from their injuries.

It wasn’t that he couldn’t afford it, but using a level six crystal core for one healing session just wasn’t worth it.

Luo Shuyou silently complained in his heart, “So stingy.” He wasn’t annoyed at not getting more crystal cores. In his view, a level six zombie crystal core was something you could get by casually snapping the neck of a level six zombie, so it wasn’t a big deal.

He was just about to start healing when, based on their earlier calls, he guessed that the seriously injured person lying down was the Ziling the man was talking about. But to be sure, Luo Shuyou pointed at the person lying half-reclined and asked, “Is it her?” He didn’t want them to go back on their word later and say he healed the wrong person.

Wu Zixiao nodded. “Yes, it’s her.”

Because he had to control the energy output to stay within the range of a level three ability user, it took Luo Shuyou a few minutes to heal her. If he had used his true abilities, he would have just thrown down a ball of energy and been done with it.

If he didn’t want to heal, then he didn’t want to heal. Luo Shuyou didn’t want to meddle in the affairs of stingy people, and happily went back to Xie YunChuan as soon as he finished what he had to do.

Before long, Wu Ziling, who had been on the verge of death, was more energetic than the two people who had been dragging her around.

With the injuries treated, Xie YunChuan began to question them, “Who are you? Why are you here?”

Wu Zixiao didn’t intend to hide his identity and said truthfully, “My name is Wu Zixiao, and these are my two younger sisters – Wu Zishan and Wu Ziling. We are from the Wu family of Li City.”

“We came out to collect supplies, but we didn’t expect to encounter this rare heavy snow on the way back. When we went into the mountains to find shelter, we accidentally entered the territory of those zombie monkeys and alerted them, which is why we were chased here.”

“Thank you for saving us. I assume you are also here to seek refuge in Li City. I can take you into the city and provide you with housing and food. Our Wu family will definitely repay you.” Wu Zixiao thought it through. These people were quite strong, and it would be beneficial to bring them into the Wu family. This would both recruit some good talents for the family and repay their life-saving grace, killing two birds with one stone.
