Chapter 73: Knowing When to Advance and Retreat

On the way back, Su Genglie felt increasingly unwilling, no matter how he thought about it. He absolutely couldn’t let go of such a good opportunity.

Before, Jiang Long had been suppressing him, and he never got a chance at any crystal cores. This time, Jiang Long had finally loosened his grip, and he absolutely couldn’t give up so easily.

His mind raced, wracking his brains for a solution. He had to find a way to get his hands on that crystal core.

Suddenly, the image of the frail boy beside Xie YunChuan that he had seen that day flashed through his mind. An idea sparked, and he believed he had found the perfect entry point. He hurried forward to discuss it with Jiang Long.

Arriving before Jiang Long, he excitedly said, “We can go and capture the person Xie YunChuan brought with him! That person looks so weak, and judging by Xie YunChuan’s behavior that day, he must care about him a lot. He’s obviously his little lover.”

It just so happened that they had been following Xie YunChuan all day and knew that he didn’t have that person with him. That meant the person must be in their room right now. It was truly a golden opportunity with perfect timing and location.

Jiang Long recalled the beautiful, picture-perfect person he had seen that day. His heart skipped a beat. He was someone who made your heart flutter just thinking about him!

Undeniably, Su Genglie’s suggestion was a good method. No matter how powerful a person was, once their weakness was seized, their threat level would be greatly reduced.

But…! Luo Shuyou’s charming and alluring face and his innocent eyes filled with youthful innocence flashed in Jiang Long’s mind. A radiant expression appeared on his face.

Su Genglie looked strangely at Jiang Long’s lovesick expression, feeling puzzled.

This infatuated state didn’t seem like the excitement of about to kill Xie YunChuan and obtain the crystal core, did it?

It was more like he was daydreaming about his beloved, like a simp at first sight.

He waved his hand in front of Jiang Long, “Hey! Hey…! Snap out of it! Put a stop to your filthy imagination for a moment. Let’s focus on business first. If it works out, I’ll find you some beauties to simp over to your heart’s content.”

Jiang Long, jolted out of his daydream, roared with a mix of annoyance and embarrassment, “What’s with all the nagging! What kind of crap method is that? Would you dig out your own crystal core for an outsider?

That’s a matter of life and death, not some trivial matter of love that you can willingly give up for.”

“Besides, how can you be sure you can capture that person? You know Xie YunChuan cares about him. Do you think he’d leave him unguarded in their residence, just waiting for us to capture him? Save it. Don’t try to steal a chicken only to lose the rice and your life.”

He admitted he wanted to kill Xie YunChuan and take that person for himself, but rash actions weren’t his style, especially in the current chaotic end-of-the-world situation. Any mistake could cost you your life.

And even if they did manage to capture that person and use him to threaten Xie YunChuan, who could guarantee that things would go as smoothly as they imagined?

Once they made a move, they would have completely offended Xie YunChuan. If they made the slightest mistake,

He believed Xie YunChuan definitely had the ability to kill them. At that point, Xie YunChuan’s care for that person wouldn’t be a bargaining chip, but a catalyst for their deaths.

Su Genglie said resentfully, “Isn’t it just because you promised me you’d give me this crystal core that you’re being so unenthusiastic? This won’t work, that won’t work. Why weren’t you so timid before?”

In the end, it was because it wasn’t his own business, so he didn’t care whether it succeeded or not. He had been so naive to think of coming to him for advice.

He had worked so hard to help him fight zombies and dig out crystal cores to help him level up. Now Jiang Long had leveled up early on, while he was still stuck at the beginner level.

What a load of bull about leaning against a big tree to enjoy the shade. There was no shade to enjoy, only a lot of work to do, dammit! He might as well work alone!

He had already forgotten that if Jiang Long hadn’t protected him in the beginning, with his weak water-type ability that even he found useless, someone would have dug out his crystal core and dumped his corpse long ago. How could he be squawking like this now?

Jiang Long laughed dismissively, “So what if that’s the case?”

Heh! He was the one who shamelessly flattered and begged him to cooperate in the beginning. He called it cooperation, but it was just him helping him out while he provided protection.

Now, his wings had hardened, and he dared to question him? He had been giving him too much face lately.

Although he did have some ulterior motives for so readily opposing that plan, so what? Why should he risk his life to painstakingly accomplish someone else’s goals?

Every time they went to fight zombies, he was always the one charging in front, while he hid in the back, peeking out to make a few symbolic gestures when there was no danger. Jiang Long had seen it all, but he didn’t bother to argue with him.

He called him timid? How laughable. Wasn’t he doing exactly what Su Genglie had been doing before?

How was it that when he did it, it was perfectly natural, but now that others were doing it to him, he acted like he had suffered some great injustice?

He was just too lazy to argue, not stupid!

It was hard to understand. People were quite perplexing sometimes!

Su Genglie resentfully waved his hand and left. He deliberately quickened his pace, quickly disappearing from Jiang Long’s sight.

Tiger and San Haozi, who were silently following behind, didn’t dare to speak. But if Jiang Long and Su Genglie were to break up, they would definitely choose to follow Jiang Long.

Su Genglie couldn’t see the situation clearly, perhaps due to some arrogance as a fellow ability user. He didn’t understand, but outsiders could see clearly.

The reason he wasn’t strong wasn’t because his water-type ability was some useless ability, as he claimed, but because he himself was useless.

The most fundamental reason why others were strong was because they had a strong desire to improve and the courage to fight zombies.

He, on the other hand, didn’t make any effort every day, constantly complaining about how unlucky he was and how useless his awakened water-type ability was. Now, he was still expecting others to risk their lives to get him crystal cores. He really dared to think!

With his blood rushing to his head, Su Genglie, in a fit of impulsiveness, headed towards Xie YunChuan’s residence, filled with hostility.

Hmph! Such a good opportunity. Did Jiang Long think he couldn’t do it without his help?

He would show him what a successful case of courage and resourcefulness looked like.

Well! Many people often find it difficult to see their own limitations. This is a common human flaw, known as arrogance. In the past, at most, such people would only annoy others.

Now, every mistake could be the last. Indeed, lessons learned in blood were easier to remember. It all depended on whether it was a final awakening at the end of life!

Meanwhile, Jiang Long, who had returned to his room, soon sensed that the zombie energy fluctuations in the underground arena had completely disappeared.

He was glad he hadn’t waited there to take advantage of the situation, nor had he listened to Su Genglie’s terrible idea to kidnap their little darling.

He had fought primary zombies many times. For so many zombies to stop moving all at once, the only possibility was that they had all died.

One could imagine how powerful the people inside were. If they came out and found them lurking, it would be an easy matter to eliminate them.

It was even more impossible to force him to submit through hostages. The abilities of ability users were unpredictable. If they really did that, they wouldn’t even know how they died.

It had to be said that there was a reason why someone like him could survive so well in the end of the world and even upgrade his ability to level one. This level of awareness wasn’t something everyone had!

He wasn’t a good person, didn’t have any misplaced kindness, and knew how to assess the situation and advance and retreat. People like that often lived long and carefree lives.
