    Chapter 61: The Gentle Executioner

Things weren’t as rosy as Lu Yunzhou had imagined. He hadn’t been taken to the central district. Instead, he was lying on an experimental table, covered in wounds and his head swimming.

In the morning, after he’d killed those zombies and waited expectantly for people to take him to the central district, he didn’t get those people. What he got was an army of hundreds of zombies.

After exhausting his powers and physical strength to kill the last zombie, he collapsed heavily on the ground, the world spinning before his eyes. Ironically, the moment he realized he’d awakened his power, he’d been grateful to those people.

He regretted not restraining his temper earlier, pointlessly wasting his powers electrifying those dead zombies. Otherwise, perhaps he would still have had some strength left to stop those two from dragging him away like a dead man.

Would he be dragged in to feed the zombies?

The Tall and thin one didn’t dare disobey Chen Xin’s orders, so he had to release hundreds of zombies inside. When Lu Yunzhou’s powers were exhausted and he was about to be devoured, he quickly threw a machete down. He didn’t know how to drag him out of the zombie horde. He was on his own to seek good fortune.

Being blamed by Chen Xin was nothing compared to being bitten by zombies. He knew which was more important.

Awakening powers was a good thing. Even if the energy was exhausted, his physical strength and agility were far superior to ordinary people. Lu Yunzhou managed to kill the last zombie with his battered body before collapsing.

On the experimental table, Lu Yunzhou’s consciousness gradually cleared, only to find that his hands and feet were tied tightly, making it impossible for him to move. He turned his head and shouted at the person fiddling with something on the experimental table next to him, “Let me go! What are you doing?”

The person turned around. He was wearing a white coat, with a few sparse white hairs mixed in with his black hair, looking to be in his fifties or sixties.

He had a kind face, and a pair of deep eyes twinkled with intelligence. At this moment, he was looking at him with a smile. “Young man, you’re awake? Do you feel full of energy and excitement?”

Lu Yunzhou roared, “Excitement my ass! Why did you tie me up?”

The old man was not at all affected by his attitude, and still said with a gentle smile: “Young man, don’t be so hot-tempered. You are making a great contribution to saving the survival of mankind.

Don’t resist. As loving human beings, you must have a selfless spirit of dedication. Future generations will remember you. Don’t give up this opportunity to be immortalized in history.”

His unhurried tone was slow and calm, like a clear spring flowing into people’s hearts.

Of course, adding what he said was the ultimate killer. Lu Yunzhou laughed in anger.

Damn it, it’s the end of the world, what’s the point of talking about future generations? What’s the point of being immortalized in history?

This was the first time he’d heard someone talk about forcing others to do human experiments in such a fresh, refined, and high-sounding way. “Just tell me what you’re going to do!”

“Alas! It just shows that people’s hearts are impetuous. Young people these days… are hard to use!”

After sighing, his style of painting changed abruptly. He immediately switched to a serious face and said bluntly, “I want to draw your blood to study the zombie virus in your body.”

“Didn’t you say that power users won’t be infected? How can I have the virus in my body?”

Lu Yunzhou cried out, suddenly sitting up in shock from his deathbed. Cough, cough, he remembered now, but couldn’t get up.

“Who told you you wouldn’t be infected? It’s just that the dose wasn’t enough, and the timing wasn’t right.”

Hearing his nonchalant words, Lu Yunzhou had a faint feeling of impending death.

Was this a matter of dosage? Was this a matter of timing? Don’t make it sound like he was treating an illness and adjusting the dosage, or like he was cooking, simmering slowly.

This was a matter of his life. If he had known, he wouldn’t have been so reckless when fighting earlier. Now, if he didn’t have bite marks all over his body, he would at least have ten or eight. Several pieces of flesh had been torn off.

Lu Yunzhou asked despondently, “When will I turn into a zombie?”

Cheng Xie restored his gentle smile, “Don’t worry, I will save you, as long as you cooperate with me.”

“Really?” Lu Yunzhou guessed that this person was most likely the Cheng Doctor and uncle that Fatty and the others had mentioned earlier.

Someone who could throw living people into a pile of zombies just to stimulate their powers, could he be doing it for his own good and would he save him? He was just a guinea pig for his research.

“Of course it’s true. You have to believe me. I’m a good person. I’ve dedicated myself to the great scientific experiments of mankind all my life, doing my best, working diligently, loving my job…”

“Stop, stop, stop!” Lu Yunzhou interrupted his spell. “Can I choose to die directly?”

The biggest feature of experimental research is that there is always a huge gap between assumptions and reality.

If he really became his experimental guinea pig, it wouldn’t be a simple matter of drawing blood a few times.

Cheng Xie was very unhappy to be interrupted. Young people these days are really impolite, but it didn’t stop him from smiling in the next second and saying, “First of all, in short, I’m a good person.”

Very good, he was a person with a beginning and an end, and must finish the previous sentence.

Then he turned to a stern face, and scolded him seriously like he was teaching an unpromising son: “Secondly, of course you can’t. Life is so precious, how can you be so dismissive and recklessly ask to die?”

Lu Yunzhou began to doubt himself. He used polite language and asked hesitantly: “Excuse me, are you Doctor Cheng?”

Cheng Xie smiled instantly, his old face wrinkled into a flower, and said in a brisk tone: “Yes, has my name as a hard-working lover of this peerless genius spread throughout the base?”

Lu Yunzhou doubted himself again, and asked unwillingly: “How many Cheng Doctors are there in your base?”

Cheng Xie’s face collapsed, “A peerless genius like me, having one is already something that the heavens can’t tolerate, how many more do you want?”

Lu Yunzhou was completely shocked. Big brother, would you like to hear what you are saying? This was the first time he had seen someone so narcissistic.

He had a sense of being a big idiot. He really couldn’t combine him with the cruel and tyrannical mad scientist image of Doctor Cheng he had imagined.

So he expressed his feelings directly and asked the most important question, “Was it you who told them to throw people into the zombie pile to stimulate their powers?”

“Yes! Don’t you also think that I am simply a unique genius who can come up with this method?”

Lu Yunzhou snorted coldly, “Heh! A unique executioner.”

The heart that had been hanging finally died. His life was over!

Cheng Xie once again talked about his “great principles”, “How can you say that! The spirit of science lies in dedication, in daring to sacrifice. Now that zombies are rampant at the end of the world, and the virus is evolving rapidly, if humans don’t seek a way to break through, are they waiting to be completely infected and exterminated?

Don’t care about the sacrifices of a few people, this is to save the lives of more people. Only by finding a breakthrough can humans have a little power to resist.”

To be honest, with these piles of great principles hammering down, Lu Yunzhou almost suspected that he was too selfish and too narrow-minded?

Chen Xin’s ugly faces flashed through his mind quickly. Lu Yunzhou shook this terrible idea out of his mind. No, no, no, what they did was not human, don’t be brainwashed.
