    Chapter 1 Natural Disaster

The scorching sun was blazing. It should have been early summer, a pleasant and refreshing climate, but this year’s weather was exceptionally different. The weather in May and June was much hotter than the midsummer of August and September.

Luo Shuyou leaned lazily on the sofa, eating ice cream while frowning at the fiery red sun outside, discontentedly saying:

“Xie YunChuan, what’s going on this year? Why is it so hot? I don’t remember it ever being this hot, even in the hottest years. Is my memory failing me?”

“You’re not mistaken. The weather is indeed abnormal this year. Even in the two months after this, it wouldn’t be this hot. Don’t go out these few days. Your skin is delicate; be careful of sunburn.”

As Xie YunChuan spoke, he walked over to Luo Shuyou, took the ice cream from his hand, and finished it in a few bites.

Luo Shuyou became upset, and angrily whined:

“What are you doing~! If you want to eat, go get your own. Why are you taking mine?”

Xie YunChuan looked at his pouting lips and gently pinched his cheek, saying:

“Still talking? You tell me, how many have you eaten today? Didn’t you say you couldn’t eat too many? Two at most a day. It’s only morning, and this is already your third.”

“I’m hot! Besides, I’m not a child anymore. Don’t always treat me like a child, managing everything I do.”

“Not a child anymore? But someone is even more unruly than a child.”

Luo Shuyou nestled bonelessly into Xie YunChuan’s arms, changing the subject and softly acting spoiled:

“Husband~, why is it so hot? Is the air conditioning broken?”

Xie YunChuan let him change the subject, his eyes involuntarily looking worriedly at the scorching land outside the window. A faint unease flashed through his heart, but he still lovingly stroked the head of his beloved in his arms, saying:

“It’s not broken. It’s already on the lowest setting. It’s just too hot outside.”

“Aren’t you going to work today?”

“The company is on holiday. This temperature isn’t suitable for work anymore.”

What Xie YunChuan didn’t say was that many companies had already reported employees dying from heatstroke. Unfortunately, their company had one yesterday, so he simply gave everyone a holiday, unless absolutely necessary, until this natural disaster passed.

But would this natural disaster really pass?

    Xie YunChuan thought heavily.

“That’s great. Then you can stay home with me. I’ve been feeling restless lately, very anxious, always worrying that something will happen, but I can’t grasp what it will be.”

Perhaps the weather was making people anxious, or perhaps it was people’s magical and nonsensical sixth sense before a major event.

Who knew? It was just that this uneasy feeling made Luo Shuyou want to stick to Xie YunChuan’s side even more, as if with him, no problem was a problem.

Luo Shuyou thought he had been spoiled by Xie YunChuan. But fortunately, Xie YunChuan loved him and cared for him as always, even more so than in the beginning. That was enough. In life, lie down if you can; that’s the true meaning.

Xie YunChuan comforted him: “What could happen? It’s all because of the hot weather. Don’t overthink it. Do you want to take a nap?”

Luo Shuyou raised his head from his arms, looking at him with starry eyes, expectantly saying, “Will you accompany me?”

Xie YunChuan tapped his little nose, “Okay, I’ll accompany you, you little clingy thing.” After saying that, he directly picked him up and walked towards the bedroom.

The sweltering weather made even a midday nap uncomfortable. Even though the curtains were drawn tightly to block the scorching sun, waves of heat still poured in from all directions, eroding people’s bodies. Even the walls became scalding hot. The entire room was like an airtight steamer. If the air conditioner overhead wasn’t running at high capacity, people might have been cooked.

Perhaps some would think that opening a window for ventilation might be better. The truth was, those who tried this were hit by a wave of heat the moment they opened the window, causing them to reflexively close it again, then grumbling and complaining to the people inside about the terrible weather.

Everyone was annoyed by this, of course. Most people didn’t have a sense of crisis and hadn’t realized the seriousness of the problem. Perhaps, having lived in a peaceful and prosperous world for too long, even if some people felt something was wrong, they wouldn’t have too much worry. After all, if the sky fell, there were still the country and the government.

It was still barely possible to go outside in the morning, but in less than half a day, exposure became certainly harmful. The house was also getting hotter and hotter.

Under such circumstances, only Luo Shuyou was still sleeping peacefully. Because as soon as Xie YunChuan realized it was getting hotter and hotter, he went to the ice cellar at home and took two big basins of ice to cool the bedroom. He also manually fanned the cool air as much as possible towards Luo Shuyou. With such physical cooling, it was impossible not to feel cool.

Because of the recent hot and irritable days, Luo Shuyou hadn’t been resting well. It was rare to have time today with Xie YunChuan accompanying him, which made him feel at ease, and being cared for so attentively, he slept all the way until the afternoon.

During this time, Xie YunChuan sat by the bed, fanning and reading a book, except for a phone call he made midway. He silently accompanied Luo Shuyou for three or four hours.

Noticing that Luo Shuyou was showing signs of waking up, Xie YunChuan immediately put down his book and fan, leaned over the bed, moved closer to him, touched his head, and said, “Yoyou, are you awake? Are you hungry? Get up and eat something first. You didn’t eat much this morning.”

“Ugh…, not awake~, you woke me up, you’re so annoying….”

Xie YunChuan pulled him up from the bed to sit in his arms, reached out to put slippers on him, and coaxed him skillfully, “I’m annoying, I’m the most annoying. Now that our baby has been woken up by me, why don’t you do me the honor of getting up and eating something with this annoying person.”

Luo Shuyou finally deigned to open his eyes, glanced at Xie YunChuan blurrily, then buried himself in his arms and acted spoiled:

“You’re not allowed to say that about my husband, you’re bad~, I’m ignoring you.”

Xie YunChuan let him be unreasonable, “Okay, okay, I’m bad, I won’t say it. Are you still uncomfortable, baby?”

“I’m not uncomfortable anymore, but I don’t want to move.”

“If you don’t want to move, then don’t move. Husband will hold you for a while.”

Luo Shuyou had actually woken up a long time ago, and it wasn’t Xie YunChuan who woke him up like he said. Xie YunChuan knew everything about him; how could he not tell whether he was asleep or awake?

It was just that Luo Shuyou had a bad temper when he woke up, especially when he was around Xie YunChuan, because Xie YunChuan would always patiently coax him and accept all his little temper tantrums, so he was spoiled even more.

“Xie YunChuan, do you feel like it’s getting hotter?”

Even with the air conditioning and ice, the current temperature still couldn’t stop the heat.

Xie YunChuan had only stopped fanning for a moment, but Luo Shuyou felt the unusual heat. The outside temperature was constantly rising, baking the outer surface of the villa. The cool air inside was quickly swallowed by the surrounding heat, like a drop in the bucket.

“It is a bit hot. I’ll go get some more ice later.”

Xie YunChuan had already realized that something was unusual, but he still acted nonchalant, which made Luo Shuyou feel that it wasn’t a big deal, just that the weather was a bit abnormal.
