    Chapter 146: Mu Xi’s Deal

    “Xie Haoran.”

“Do you want Chu Zhaoyi dead?”

Separated by a thick pane of glass, Xie Haoran sat opposite her, dressed in drab prison clothes. He was a far cry from the once-celebrated genius painter and young master of the Xie family.

In just a few months, his eyes had become sinister, his face haggard, as if all the vitality had been drained from him.

Whether it was the Xie family or Gu Yusen who had made arrangements, his life in prison wasn’t easy.

And this kind of life would continue for more than a decade.

Xie Haoran slowly raised his head, his gaze fixed on the cold light reflected from the pearl earring on Mu Xi’s earlobe. A low laugh escaped his throat, like a sound squeezed from rusty iron, carrying a decaying aura.

His fingers gripped the edge of the table tightly, his knuckles white from the force. His voice was low and hoarse, as if forced from the depths of his throat: “Chu Zhaoyi… he ruined everything for me. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have ended up like this. My reputation is ruined! The Xie family doesn’t care about me anymore! My life is over—all because of him!”

His voice grew louder and louder, until it was almost a roar from his throat, filled with a near-manic rage. There was not a trace of warmth in his eyes, only a deep-seated hatred, as if just mentioning Chu Zhaoyi’s name could drive him to the brink of madness.

Mu Xi listened expressionlessly, her eyes as cold as if watching an irrelevant play.

She had already taken care of everything. There was no one else in the visiting room, only the two of them.

She waited for Xie Haoran’s emotions to calm down slightly before slowly speaking, her voice low and laced with a hint of seduction: “Hate him? Good. I can give you a chance, a chance to make him disappear completely.”

Xie Haoran’s eyes narrowed sharply, staring intently at Mu Xi: “What do you mean?”

“I said, I can help you,” Mu Xi’s voice was very low, like a whisper from the darkness. “If you’re willing.”

“Why come to me?” Xie Haoran gritted his teeth, the excessively beautiful face of Chu Zhaoyi surfacing in his mind. The hatred in his heart grew even stronger, but he didn’t agree immediately.

“Hatred is the most loyal,” Mu Xi said calmly, her tone carrying a hint of cold certainty.

She didn’t need to put in much effort because Xie Haoran hated Chu Zhaoyi enough, hated him to the point where he was willing to give everything for it. A person like that would naturally do his best when carrying out a task, and she only needed to give him a push from behind, and the eyesore would naturally disappear.

Xie Haoran’s expression stiffened slightly, a trace of struggle flashing in his eyes. Mu Xi dared to say such things, so she naturally had the ability to get him out temporarily. He didn’t need to worry about that.

It seemed that this matter was entirely beneficial to him.

At least, he had a chance to make Chu Zhaoyi pay the price.

“However, after it’s done, your prison break will probably be impossible to hide, and you will die,” Mu Xi’s tone was as calm as if discussing the weather, as if Xie Haoran’s life or death was just an insignificant detail to her. She didn’t care about his ending; he was just a handy tool.

She would discard him after use, anyway he’s just a dying man. She gave him a chance to struggle; he should be grateful.

Xie Haoran fell silent, lowering his head, his eyes flashing in the shadows. Two minutes later, he raised his head, his eyes becoming firm, even with a hint of madness.

Anyway, his life was already ruined. What could it matter if it got even worse? If he could drag Chu Zhaoyi into hell, he was willing to pay any price.

“As long as I can make him disappear, I’m willing,” his voice was low and resolute.

“As long as I can make him pay the price, I’ll do anything.”

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Mu Xi’s mouth, as if she had already anticipated his answer. She nodded lightly, her tone calm: “Very good. I’ll arrange the rest.”

She stood up, looking down at Xie Haoran, her eyes carrying a trace of cold pity.

“Remember, this is your only chance.”
