Chapter 130: Confrontation at the Old House

“Auntie, how have you been? The last banquet was crowded, and I saw you were busy, so I didn’t get a chance to chat with you much.” Mu Xi sat on the sofa, a well-behaved smile on her face, her fingertips gently tracing the edge of the teacup, her movements elegant and proper.

Madam Gu put down her teacup, her eyes full of affection. “I’m doing well, but how is your mother? I’ll find her to go shopping when I’m free in the next few days.”

She looked at Mu Xi in front of her, her heart full of fondness. Mu Xi’s mother was a good friend of hers, and they had a good relationship. As a result, the younger generation also interacted frequently.

However, Gu Yusen was aloof, and considering the difference between men and women, their relationship had always been lukewarm. Madam Gu had also thought about bringing these two children together, but whenever Mu Xi was mentioned, Gu Yusen always looked indifferent and showed no emotion.

After thinking about it, she eventually gave up.

But she had eaten more than twenty years of rice than these children, and she couldn’t help but notice Mu Xi’s frequent approaches and the girl’s intentions.

However, she wasn’t willing to interfere, so she pretended to be deaf and mute, letting the young people struggle on their own.

Madam Gu picked up her teacup and took a light sip. The gilded enamel nail shone softly in the morning light. “Your mother said last time that she wanted to buy that set of jade jewelry. Coincidentally…”

Before she could finish speaking, the door was pushed open, and Gu Yusen walked in, bringing with him the coolness of early autumn. His suit jacket was casually draped over his arm, and his tie hung loosely at his collarbone, giving him a lazy and casual air.

Mu Xi’s fingers clutching the teacup suddenly curled up and then quickly released. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, revealing a perfect curve that she had practiced countless times, and her voice was gentle: “Brother Gu, long time no see.”

The pearl handbag on the velvet sofa shone brightly in the morning light, like her pupils, which suddenly contracted and then relaxed.

Her gaze lingered on Gu Yusen for a moment before quickly shifting away, as if it were just a casual glance.

“Miss Mu.” Gu Yusen paused slightly, his eyes swept over her without stopping, and he nodded lightly as a greeting, finally stopping at the tea next to his mother’s hand: “Is this the good tea that Father mentioned a few days ago?”

His voice was low and carried a casual air.

He unbuttoned his cuffs and walked upstairs, his movements smooth and natural. He seemed particularly relaxed in his own home.

Madam Gu looked at her son’s back and shook her head helplessly, but she caught a glimpse of the slight sound of the cup colliding with the glass coffee table when Mu Xi put down the teacup.

The girl’s exquisitely manicured nails pressed crescent-shaped white marks on the corner of her clothes, and then she smoothed out the wrinkles in her skirt as if nothing had happened, her voice still gentle: “I heard that Brother Gu has recently been taking over some of the family’s businesses, so you must be quite busy?”

Gu Yusen’s figure had already disappeared at the end of the spiral staircase. Mu Xi picked up the cooled black tea, took a light sip, and swallowed the bitterness that rose on her tongue. Her gaze fell on the tea leaves floating in the teacup, and her expression was calm.

Madam Gu saw through it but didn’t expose it, touching the ring on her finger and sighing softly in her heart.

Gu Yusen didn’t often return to the old house, at most once on the weekends. Today was only Wednesday.

She thought about the rumors from the school that couldn’t be suppressed, and finally sighed softly.

The two chatted for a few more sentences, but Madam Gu was a little tired. Mu Xi was a shrewd person and knew how to read people’s faces the best. Seeing Madam Gu’s suddenly tired expression, she thought of the rumors in Gu Yusen’s school.

She was probably having a headache because of this matter.

In fact, Mu Xi had never taken Chu Zhaoyi seriously. It was fine for Brother Gu to keep him around for fun.

Marrying him into the family was definitely impossible.

Mu Xi picked up her teacup and took a sip. The tea was gone, and she stood up: “Auntie, then I’ll leave first.”
