    Chapter 65

In an instant, the bar became brightly lit, and everyone was clearly exposed under the lights.

Zhou Tian was holding balloons, Shuai Xiaoyun was carrying a cake, Xu Ge was holding champagne, Bai Shu was clutching party streamers…

    Luckily, there weren’t many people.

If the place was full of people, and more than half were faces he had only met a few times and couldn’t name, he probably would have made a run for the door immediately.

But even if he didn’t run, the balloons all over the floor made it impossible for him to move. Purple, white, and even pink balloons—you’d think it was a kindergarten party if you didn’t know better.

Qi Guang was glad he hadn’t stepped forward just now. Falling into the balloons would have been fine, but if he had popped them, he might have wanted to fight whoever came up with this lousy idea.

Everyone looked at each other, as awkward as if they’d been caught in the act.

    Except for Xu Ge.

With a “what big scene haven’t I seen” smile, he started tapping out a beat with his hand, then opened his mouth to sing, “Happy birthday to you…”

Then everyone joined in, yelling as they sang while surging towards Qi Guang, kicking away a bunch of innocent balloons. The group of four wasn’t exactly large, but combined with the balloons flying everywhere, it felt like they were about to be engulfed.

The surprise of being discovered and the shock of the trick made Qi Guang take two steps back. “Damn it!”

Just as he grabbed the doorknob, contemplating whether to escape, the door seemed to respond to his call and suddenly swung open.

A blast of hot air and warm wind swept in, carrying a slender figure.

Wearing a wide-brimmed fisherman’s hat, head tilted back, carrying a bag in hand—it looked like he had just come back from the city and hadn’t had time to drop off his luggage.

Before Qi Guang could react, he heard Zhou Tian’s loud voice from behind, “Ye Xing! How did you get back?”

Then Xu Ge’s voice, “Just in time! We’re celebrating Qi Guang’s birthday!”

You bastard! He came back without a word or even a text!

    Scumbag!

    Qi Guang narrowed his eyes.

Ye Xing smiled at Xu Ge and the others, then looked at Qi Guang, his gaze unwavering, and tilted his chin towards the door.

Was he inviting him to leave?

    Qi Guang was still squinting.

Their gaze didn’t last long. As the four of them started to move towards them, Ye Xing immediately grabbed Qi Guang’s hand, and in the next second, they disappeared through the door.

“I told you, he doesn’t celebrate his birthday!” Shuai Xiaoyun’s helpless voice came from inside the bar.

Fortunately, no one followed them out.

“Even though I dragged you out without your permission, you can still go back if you want,” Ye Xing released his hand, leaning against Qi Guang’s motorcycle as he looked at him.

Qi Guang handed him a helmet and straddled the motorcycle. “Get on.”

“Where to?” Ye Xing smiled as he climbed on behind him, naturally wrapping his arms around his waist as before.

“Let’s go to your place first to drop off your stuff,” Qi Guang started the engine.

The afternoon sun was scorching, and soon the clothes stuck to their skin were feeling a bit sticky. Ye Xing eased his upper body and created a bit of space between them.

It was still a bit hot, maybe because of the helmet. Then he suddenly remembered the first time he had ridden with Qi Guang, who had said he only had one head and didn’t need two helmets.

“I’ll get you a helmet next time,” Ye Xing suddenly said.

“Get me a helmet?” Qi Guang was surprised.

“If you say you don’t need it, just wait to be punished!” Ye Xing poked him in the waist.

“Damn it!” Qi Guang slapped his hand away.

“Qi Guang, how did you become so vengeful?” Ye Xing yelled.

Qi Guang ignored him; yelling on the street was too conspicuous. If they continued to argue and fight like this, it would easily cause a traffic accident.

Seeing he didn’t respond for a while, Ye Xing couldn’t help but ask again, “Are Xu Ge and the others okay with me coming out with you like this?”

Although he was a bit slow on the uptake, he still had some concerns.

“It’s okay,” Qi Guang didn’t seem to mind much, “He just likes to have fun, just looking for an opportunity for everyone to hang out.”

“Looking at their set-up just now, were you planning to run away too?” Ye Xing asked.

“Looking at their set-up just now, didn’t they forget to invite you?” Qi Guang retorted without holding back.

“Damn it!” Ye Xing started to get restless again, the progress being that he didn’t physically touch him this time, “Why do you hate celebrating your birthday?”

“It’s not that I hate it, I’ve just never celebrated my birthday with a lot of people before. I’m not comfortable with the feeling of so many people gathering around and making me the center of attention. It’s just awkward,” Qi Guang paused, “And before, no one would do these things for me.”

Ye Xing understood that for the past few years, Qi Guang had been in a state of “no one in this world cares if I live or die.” Even though he’d moved past it, he was still afraid that he might suddenly remember it and affect his mood.

“Oh, it’s okay.” Ye Xing couldn’t resist rubbing his waist again, “I’ll take care of things like this in the future. I’ll celebrate with you, and you’ll be the only star of my show!”

“Ye Xing, classmate?” Qi Guang’s stomach churned as he laughed, “Can you not give such standard answers like you’re answering a question? Can we be a little more sincere? Don’t be so official!”

“Official? Hahahaha, sorry, I’m not very experienced,” Ye Xing laughed too.

First time dating, not very experienced, please bear with me.

“So, they really didn’t invite you?” Qi Guang asked.

“Huh?” Ye Xing didn’t understand why he was so fixated on this.

“Then why didn’t you tell me you were coming back?” Qi Guang pressed.

Oh, so that’s what he was waiting for!

Ye Xing knew he was in the wrong and softened his tone, “Wasn’t I coming to find you right away?”

“Don’t try to gloss over it; you know what I’m asking!” Qi Guang didn’t accept his excuse.

    He knew!

But he didn’t want to seem too…

How to put it…too sentimental, too rash, too stubborn?

But none of that mattered; at that moment, he just wanted to resolve one question.

Even though everyone tacitly knew the answer to the question.

“Oh,” Ye Xing cleared his throat, suddenly looking serious, “I just wanted to confirm one thing with you in person.”

    “What thing?” Qi Guang asked.

“You’re my boyfriend now, right?” Ye Xing said quickly, far from the seriousness and solemnity of the previous sentence.

Qi Guang was stunned, then became furious.

“Damn it!” He used the back of his head to bump against Ye Xing’s helmet, “Ye Xing, classmate, are you going to take advantage of me and then play innocent? You kissed me twice…”

Ye Xing quickly interrupted him, “Hey, hey, didn’t you think I was drunk the first time?”

“That’s because I initially thought you were too innocent! After your second, skillful…” Qi Guang’s voice, which was originally loud, suddenly weakened, “…action, I realized your first time was not pure at all! You dog, taking advantage of me, and now you’re asking if I’m your boyfriend.”

Ye Xing was amused by his aggrieved appearance.

“Okay, okay, I admit it was all my fault!” He laughed, feeling a bit stuffy, and took off his helmet to cool off, “Qi Guang, I think you’re not as manly as you used to be when you’re dating, like a little wife.”

“Who the hell is dating you!” Qi Guang said.

Who doesn’t know how to play innocent?

You wanted to blur our relationship before!

“Speak properly! Don’t force me to kiss you right now. Do you want to get into trouble here?” Ye Xing pulled his right hand from his waist and pinched his chin.

“Damn it!” Qi Guang jutted out his chin, “You dare?”

    Why wouldn’t he dare?

Ye Xing leaned over and kissed the back of his neck with a smack.

Once they reached his home, Ye Xing quickly tossed his helmet and ran upstairs before Qi Guang could get off the bike and gather himself.

The house was just like it was when he left, not dirty, but messy.

The shoe rack was empty, shoes were scattered all over the entrance, clothes that had dried were piled on the sofa, his backpack was thrown on the floor, and scattered textbooks were unclaimed.

Although the level of mess was within his tolerance, it would be a bit embarrassing to be seen by someone with such a clean freak.

Besides, it was his first time coming to his home!

If his tidying speed could match Qi Guang’s speed in coming upstairs, he might be able to salvage it.

But in reality, while he was thinking about it, Qi Guang was already standing at the door.

“Tsk tsk tsk!” Qi Guang raised an eyebrow.

“Why are you standing there?” Since it was too late to pretend, Ye Xing simply gave up and put the hangers back on the drying rack, “Come help.”

“I should have waited longer before coming up,” Qi Guang sat on the sofa and obediently started folding the clothes, “I should have waited until you were done tidying.”

Ye Xing glared at him and also sat down to fold clothes together.

Then something suddenly occurred to him, and he said, “How about I make it up to you for your birthday?”

“No need,” Qi Guang waved his hand, “Today isn’t my birthday.”

“I mean, I missed your actual birthday,” Ye Xing explained, “So, I’ll make it up to you now…actually, I just want to celebrate your adulthood with just the two of us…”

“Then don’t do it today either,” Qi Guang said resolutely.

    “Why?” Ye Xing asked.

“Because today isn’t my birthday,” Qi Guang repeated.

Was this guy’s way of thinking really real?

For the first time, Ye Xing felt so much difficulty in communicating with someone, and the person was someone he had always confidently felt was easier to communicate with than others.

He felt a bit frustrated, from Qi Guang’s strange attitude and his own accidental missing of all his adulthood dates.

Qi Guang probably noticed his mood and said, “Actually, when they first had me, they weren’t married yet. My dad thought it would be bad for their reputation if it got out. And back then, they didn’t have time to raise me, so they wanted to abort me, but my mom insisted on giving birth to me and had my grandfather take care of me.”

Ye Xing was surprised and just stared at him, not knowing what to say.

Qi Guang put the folded clothes together, patted them twice, and handed them to Ye Xing.

He continued, “After they got married, I got an ID, but my birth date was changed. I’ve never cared about that date.”

Not only did he not care, but he even avoided it on purpose, right?

Because it was proof that he was an unwanted child by his father?

Ye Xing suddenly felt sorry for him again.

He put the clothes aside, hugged Qi Guang, and patted him on the back.

“Damn it!” Qi Guang laughed, “Are you trying to comfort a child? I just don’t want to celebrate my birthday, is it that big of a deal!”
