    Chapter 64

Ordinary days became incredibly long because of waiting. After a few days of being a good student at school, Friday finally arrived. After Qi Guang returned home and changed out of his school uniform, he rode his motorcycle straight to 1984.

There were already some customers in the bar, but because it was dinnertime, there weren’t many people.

Looking at his travel-worn appearance, Bai Shu couldn’t help but say, “You came right after class, didn’t you? Should I order takeout for you?”

“No need,” Qi Guang waved his hand, “Xiaoyun will bring me some later.”

“I thought she’d be busier since her exams are coming up,” Bai Shu said.

“She’s in a state of Schrödinger’s busyness,” Qi Guang smiled, “It seems like Brother Xu asked her to come. I don’t know what for.”

Brother Xu looking for her? A trace of doubt flashed across Bai Shu’s face. He was with Brother Xu every day and didn’t know when he had something to ask Shuai Xiaoyun.

“By the way, where’s Brother Xu?” Qi Guang looked around.

At this moment, Brother Xu walked in carrying a box of express delivery, followed by Shuai Xiaoyun, who hadn’t even changed out of her school uniform. The two of them were chatting and laughing.

Bai Shu went over to take the delivery box from his hands, opened it, glanced at it and asked, “Why buy these things? It’s not the anniversary yet, is it?”

“What things?” Qi Guang also leaned over to look.

But he was immediately blocked by Brother Xu, who closed the box and told Bai Shu to put it in the storage locker.

“So mysterious!” Qi Guang frowned, then looked at Shuai Xiaoyun and smiled, “This young lady…”

Shuai Xiaoyun also smiled at him, handed him the packed food, and didn’t say anything.

It seemed that Brother Xu and Shuai Xiaoyun had reached a consensus to plot some big event.

“Damn it!” Qi Guang was shocked, “You’re not planning on giving up college and becoming a resident singer here, are you?”

    Pfft.

Brother Xu, who was drinking water, couldn’t help but almost spit it out. After wiping his mouth, he nodded, “That wouldn’t be a bad idea. You can consider coming over to play during your vacation after the college entrance exam.”

“That sounds good!” Shuai Xiaoyun’s eyes widened.

Qi Guang looked at them singing in chorus and sighed. He took the food and walked out of the 1984, setting up a temporary dining table as usual.

The weather was already so hot that even when the sun wasn’t directly overhead, it made your clothes stick uncomfortably to your body.

The sun hadn’t set yet, and the entire street was bathed in a golden filter, making it a bit hard to open your eyes. Qi Guang turned his back to the sun, eating while watching the people passing by.

Wasn’t this the kind of film-like scene that Ye Xing often talked about?

If he were here, he would definitely take a picture.

Qi Guang took out his phone and opened Weibo while eating. As he expected, Ye Xing still hadn’t updated, and even the last post he liked was still the same.

He went back to his own homepage and glanced at it. The follow list had over a hundred people, and besides Ye Xing and Huang Shanshan, the rest were random accounts that he didn’t know where he had followed from. He had two followers, Huang Shanshan and a free zombie account, and zero Weibo posts. His homepage hardly had any personal information filled out. He looked even more like a zombie than the zombie accounts in his follower list, at least they had avatars…

He was a bit bored and swiped around and clicked on Huang Shanshan’s Weibo.

The little girl’s Weibo was fresh; she could post a lot of times a day, but there weren’t many interactions, and most of the interactions were with a few fixed people. One person’s avatar was particularly familiar.

When he saw this avatar for the eighth time in her comments, he couldn’t help but click on it.

The large image was even more familiar. He had seen this person before, downstairs from the hotel where Ye Xing was staying, and he even had his phone number saved. But considering that the two of them weren’t close, Qi Guang didn’t want to peek at his Weibo content impolitely.

Just as he was about to exit the homepage, he accidentally glanced at the “homosexual” option in the sexual orientation section.

    Damn, what the heck???

Besides shock, he also felt some admiration.

Although few people would completely fill out their personal information on their social media account, and even less would fill out “heterosexual” as a matter of fact, it was also too serious to write down “homosexual” so openly, as if proclaiming it to the world!

He exited Weibo, tapped the edge of the lunch box with his chopsticks, and fell into deep thought.

Ye Xing’s roommate liked men. This was probably not good news.

But it wasn’t anything particularly bad either. He touched the Buddhist beads on his hand and smiled.

The Friday classes at the art studio had temporarily ended, but Teacher Xia had forgotten to bring Ye Xing’s phone, so he had to stay another night. It wasn’t until Saturday morning when the phone was delivered that he packed his luggage and prepared to go home.

“I think this hat suits you quite well, you can take it,” Li Ke threw his hat into Ye Xing’s backpack.

Ye Xing pressed the power button on his phone, not even lifting his head, “Why would I wear a hat in this hot weather?”

“Then why do you wear it to the art studio every day!” Li Ke kicked his stool leg.

“Isn’t it because I didn’t wash my hair, and the art studio has air conditioning,” Ye Xing glanced at him, suddenly realizing, “Are you fucking disliking me?”

“Can I not dislike you!” Li Ke glared at him, “I’ve only worn it once or twice myself, and it’s been your tool for hiding your hair. And look at your current hairstyle, can you get a trim? It’s almost as long as mine! Or should I put a bun on you too?”

Ye Xing looked in the mirror, his hair really was a bit of an obstruction, he’d been too scruffy in the art studio these days.

Maybe he could get a haircut before going back to Chen Town.

“If you’re in a rush, I can give you a quick trim,” Li Ke teased.

“Who said I was in a rush?” He opened WeChat, there were no new messages.

No new messages meant that Qi Guang hadn’t actually sent him a message.

Li Ke was still babbling on in his ear, “Oh, aren’t you in a rush to go back and see your sweetheart? I think you’re already all in! I knew things were going to be serious when he came to find you so urgently last time! Tsk tsk tsk, it’s not like I’m not generous enough to go look for you, I just don’t want to be a third wheel, no, wait… I’m so bright I’m probably a radiant heater!”

Ye Xing glanced at him, “How do you know it’s him?”

“It’s not like I’m talking nonsense. You guys have such obvious mutual feelings, you young people are so good at this kind of thing!” Li Ke clutched his chest in pain, “Old people can’t handle you guys messing around like this!”

“Pfft,” Ye Xing laughed, “You’re only one year older than me, you old fart!”

When he was in a good mood, it was easy to overlook some minor irritations, like the fact that Qi Guang actually hadn’t sent him a single message while he had handed in his phone.

The only person who had sent him a message was Bai Shu.

He clicked on the chat box, a bit puzzled.

-Ye Xing, when are you coming back?

-I don’t know how far you guys have gotten, but there’s something I think I need to tell you.

He tapped a few times on the keyboard, typed a few words, and then deleted them. He simply made a call instead.

Although it was the weekend, it was still early, so Bai Shu should still be at home. He answered the phone quickly, “Hello.”

“I just saw the message you sent last night, what’s up?” Ye Xing asked.

“Do you know that today is Qi Guang’s birthday?” Bai Shu said.

“Huh?” Ye Xing was a bit surprised, “Isn’t his birthday already over?”

“His real birthday was indeed a long time ago, but for some reason, his birthday on his ID is today, so today is his legal coming-of-age date,” Bai Shu said.

So, if calculated according to the date on the ID card, Qi Guang would have to call him Older Brother Ye.

He couldn’t help but laugh at this thought.

    “I’m going back now!”

“Ye Xing…” Bai Shu’s tone was a bit hesitant, “Actually, I wanted to tell you that Qi Guang didn’t plan to celebrate his birthday, and he didn’t tell us either… It was Brother Xu who was organizing it. He bought a lot of balloons and colored paper, and also notified some people. He’s preparing to give Qi Guang a surprise before opening today.”

Bai Shu’s words were very tactful, as tactful as when he had previously hinted to him about Brother Xu’s excessive care for Qi Guang, but Ye Xing still understood the meaning behind his words.

Bai Shu thought Brother Xu was going to launch his offensive.

Although Ye Xing didn’t know much about their situation, he couldn’t think objectively about this issue because it involved Qi Guang, so he packed his bag and took a taxi straight to the train station.

So, he ultimately chose to go back to Chen Town as quickly as possible instead of taking the time to groom himself.

“Why are you going over there so early today?” Qi Guang said while mopping the floor and talking on the phone.

“Anyway, you have nothing to do at home on the weekend, so why not come over and hang out!” Brother Xu said.

Qi Guang stopped what he was doing, “I have a lot to do! I’m cleaning right now.”

“Your house is probably cleaned three times a day!” Brother Xu yelled, “Hurry up and come over, everyone’s waiting for you!”

Qi Guang sighed and put the mop back in the bathroom.

He didn’t know why Brother Xu was so excited. Usually, the things he said the most were “You don’t need to rush over, do your homework first” and “Get back home early, you have class tomorrow.” Today, he seemed a bit out of sorts.

He randomly took a dried T-shirt from the balcony, put it on, and went out with his phone. Before starting the motorcycle, he looked at his phone. There were no new messages.

He didn’t know when that guy would be back.

There were very few pedestrians on the road, so he drove fast and arrived at the entrance of 1984 in no time. He couldn’t see the situation inside the bar. The blackout curtains were drawn tightly. Qi Guang locked his bike and pushed open the door while yawning.

He thought that it should be as dark as usual inside, with a projector running, and two people curled up on the sofa.

But he only got half of it right.

After stepping through the door, the door closed naturally. The bar was dark, and he couldn’t see a single soul, let alone people.

What the hell was going on?

Usually, this kind of situation was either a surprise or a prank.

Although he didn’t pay much attention to it, he knew that today was the birthday on his ID. Not only had he not celebrated his birthday for the past two years, but he had also never celebrated the birthday on his ID even before that.

If it was a surprise, it was better to just forget it.

Although it was very quiet, he could guess that everyone in the room was trying to hold their breath. As long as he took a step forward, it would cause a chain reaction like the first domino falling down.

He raised his hand and, with no sense of romance, pressed the main light switch by the door.
