Chapter 30
When Qi Guang reached the downstairs of his home, he found that his motorcycle had been moved.
Sure enough, the door wasn’t locked. With a turn of the key, it opened. He could see the kitchen light on at a glance, and Shuai Xiaoyun was stuffing things into the refrigerator.
“Come to give me more aid?” Qi Guang tossed the keys onto the table and walked over.
“Who is more impoverished now is yet to be seen? I saw the deposit book on the coffee table, you know.” Shuai Xiaoyun glanced at him, her hands not pausing.
“Deposit book?” Qi Guang frowned.
Shuai Xiaoyun closed the refrigerator door, walked to the living room, and picked up the deposit book on the coffee table to examine it, “Isn’t this yours?”
“He’s been here,” Qi Guang said.
No wonder there was a strange cologne scent in the house. Although it was so faint that he wasn’t sure, the thought instantly made him feel disgusted.
Qi Guang quickly found the air freshener and sprayed it everywhere.
“There’s also alcohol in the first aid kit, do you want to wipe the doorknob too?” Shuai Xiaoyun sincerely suggested, asking, “Was it your dad?”
“Yes, he must have come with my mom’s key. Have you seen him?”
“He came to the store this afternoon, but I flatly denied knowing you. After all, our two families’ relations are so distant, it’s normal not to know each other.” Shuai Xiaoyun shrugged.
“He didn’t make things difficult for you, did he?” Qi Guang asked.
“Do you think your sister Xiaoyun would be put in a difficult position?” Shuai Xiaoyun said with a smile.
Qi Guang put the air freshener back in the cabinet, returned to the sofa, sat down, interlaced his fingers behind his head, and leaned back, looking at Shuai Xiaoyun, “That’s hard to say. Who was it that was almost set up for a fight by those non-mainstream girls?”
Shuai Xiaoyun closed her eyes for two seconds before suppressing a roll of her eyes, “That was because I didn’t want to deal with petty people. Speaking of you, you were pretty carefree today, throwing away your phone and disappearing. I had a stomach full of fire, but your arrival diverted my attention.”
“Then go ahead and scold me, I’m all ears,” Qi Guang still sprawled on the sofa in a carefree posture.
Shuai Xiaoyun patted his leg to make him move aside a bit, then she sat down on the sofa as well, “Did you guys run into each other?”
“Yeah,” Qi Guang hummed.
“I knew it. He didn’t succeed in taking you away, but he left a deposit book, waiting for you to bite the bait!” Shuai Xiaoyun suddenly understood, “Your dad is high-level.”
So, the reason Qi Jingsheng said he was waiting for him to come was because he left this as a backup?
Using money to solve problems when words won’t work, typical of their business-like approach.
It seemed he was convinced he was living in poverty and was using this method to give him a way out, to obediently go look for him…
To ask for the password?
Qi Guang instantly felt humiliated.
“I don’t care for it.”
“Won’t you look at the number on it before you decide?” Shuai Xiaoyun seriously flipped open the deposit book and held it in front of Qi Guang.
Qi Guang glanced at the amount, not showing any surprise, and said casually, “Oh, I was almost moved.”
“My brother is awesome; it seems your dad’s attempt to play hard to get was ineffective.” Shuai Xiaoyun was so amused she couldn’t help but rejoice in his misfortune. Although she had only met Qi Jingsheng once, she had a terrible impression of him because of Qi Guang’s influence over the past few years. Watching him being thwarted everywhere made her want to gloat, “Looking at how successful he is, he probably hasn’t been so frustrated before, it really is one thing subduing another.”
Qi Guang sat up straight and stretched his neck. He stood up and walked to the kitchen, “Let’s eat before you leave. I’ll see what you’ve bought.”
“Alright, I’m so tired of the food from the shop. Please make something fresh for me,” Shuai Xiaoyun pulled open the cabinet next to the sofa and placed the deposit book inside, “I put the deposit book in the cabinet.”
“Whatever, if you think it takes up space, you can put it in the trash can.” Qi Guang pulled open the refrigerator door and surveyed the contents, “Ribs…radish…beef brisket…winter melon…tomatoes…this is a lot.”
“I ordered, Tomato Beef Brisket soup, and you can just stir-fry the winter melon…” Shuai Xiaoyun said, counting on her fingers.
“Sweet and Sour Ribs! I just learned how to make them.” Qi Guang interrupted her.
“Oh, you’ve started learning to cook,” Shuai Xiaoyun looked at him with a smile, her eyes filled with a desire to gossip, “Are you preparing it for someone?”
Yes, there was a poor thing who didn’t drink porridge, and he had promised to make him delicious food.
But it’s gone.
He messed it up himself.
Qi Guang poured the already-prepared ribs into cold water and turned on the heat, “He’s not lucky enough to have it, you’ll get a good deal this time.”
Shuai Xiaoyun was even more certain of her intuition, so she spoke frankly, “What a pity, why did you have to fight?”
“…” For a moment, Qi Guang didn’t know whether to ask her how she knew or to refute her ambiguous tone.
Shuai Xiaoyun saw his ever-changing expression and hesitant attitude and laughed while throwing pillows on the sofa.
“Ye Bro, thanks for the breakfast! Why have you changed your taste recently?” As soon as the morning self-study ended, Zhou Tian hopped over to the next class to chat.
“Changed what?” Ye Xing asked.
“Well, you used to have bread and milk, but how come it’s steamed buns and soy milk lately?” Zhou Tian said casually as he flipped through Ye Xing’s sketchbook.
“You’re not awake, are you? What bread and milk? Where did you get bread and milk?” Ye Xing pulled back his sketchbook, covering the doodles on it with the desk.
Zhou Tian saw that his expression didn’t seem to be joking and asked closer, “Dude, are you serious?”
Ye Xing impatiently reached out to push Zhou Tian’s face away, “No! Don’t act in front of me, I hate people acting in front of me the most.”
“Damn it!” Qi Guang, who hadn’t said a word, flung his mechanical pencil down, leaving a small piece of broken lead on the paper due to the excessive force, “What a piece of junk.”
Only then did Zhou Tian notice Qi Guang’s odd behavior. He had been frowning while burying his head in his work, ignoring them.
Did he turn over a new leaf after switching classes?
“Qi Bro?” Zhou Tian tentatively greeted him.
Qi Guang didn’t even turn his head, and directly packed up his books and walked to the class monitor’s seat, “Change places.”
“Huh?” The class monitor, who was teaching his deskmate a problem, didn’t know what had happened, but under Qi Guang’s inexplicably oppressive aura, he stood up on his own accord, “Qi, did something happen?”
“Too noisy, can’t do homework!” Qi Guang placed his books down and sat in the class monitor’s seat, “Sorry for the trouble.”
“Oh, okay. Qi, you can sit here first. We can change back after you finish your homework,” The class monitor was very happy.
Ever since Qi Guang transferred to this class, everyone had thought he was a difficult student to manage. After all, someone who hangs out at bars every day was unlikely to be associated with good students. But who knew, even a prodigal son would turn around someday, and it wasn’t too late.
The class monitor, who kept the good of the entire class in his heart, felt very gratified.
“Thank you, class monitor,” Qi Guang thanked the class monitor and, remembering the deskmate whose desire to learn had been ruthlessly interrupted by him, turned to her and said, “You can ask me if you don’t understand any questions.”
The deskmate was a young girl. Like most of the girls in the class, she had long been infatuated with the two handsome guys in the class, but she was saddened because the handsome guys didn’t socialize and were always alone.
Unexpectedly, the handsome guy actually took the initiative to change seats next to her. This was simply a Mary Sue scene from a novel. She decided to seize the opportunity that the gods had given her and immediately make him remember her, “Qi Guang, my name is Luo Dan, please guide me!”
Although she wasn’t sure if this Qi Guang was really capable of helping her solve the problems, she still unabashedly threw a “Five-Three” at him, “I really have a lot of questions I don’t understand!”
Qi Guang was stunned. Was he just out of the tiger’s den and into the wolf’s mouth?
“Actor.” Ye Xing, who was sipping his soy milk not far away, rolled his eyes.
Zhou Tian was completely confused, not knowing what had happened, “Qi Guang is so weird today, what got into him?”
“You took his job,” Ye Xing said.
“Classmate, our class is about to begin,” Lu Yueyang said, with her arms crossed, to Shuai Xiaoyun, who was standing at the back door and looking around.
This person had been standing here with a bag of bread for a full two minutes. How bad could her eyesight be to not find someone in two minutes?
Shuai Xiaoyun lost her patience a bit and said without lifting her head, “Where did Qi Guang die?”
Lu Yueyang reached her hand out from between her and the door and pointed to a back figure that was patiently teaching his deskmate how to do homework.
“Am I seeing things?” She rubbed her eyes, not daring to believe that the back view of this model student was actually her younger brother.
Very strange.
“Please give this to him…” Shuai Xiaoyun turned around while speaking and realized that the person standing behind her was Lu Yueyang, who she had had a brief conversation with.
She was stunned.
Lu Yueyang looked at the breakfast she was holding, her eyebrows furrowed.
Shuai Xiaoyun, seeing that things were going badly, quickly hid the breakfast behind her back, straightened up, and said obediently, “Hello, Teacher Lu, I’m Qi Guang’s older sister.”
“Keep an eye on your brother. He skipped class all day yesterday and didn’t answer the phone,” Lu Yueyang said.
Shuai Xiaoyun nodded desperately, “I should keep an eye on him!”
“If he disappears like this again, I won’t help cover for him with the grade director.”
“Next time, look for me, I’m Qi Guang’s parent!”
“You?” Lu Yueyang looked at the little girl in school uniform in front of her.
“Shuai Xiaoyun, class eleven of the senior third grade,” Shuai Xiaoyun pulled out her phone, clicked on WeChat a few times, and sent over her QR code, “This is my QR code.”
Although school regulations prohibited students from using cell phones at school, Lu Yueyang had never been able to take these outdated rules to heart. As long as it didn’t touch on any matter of principle, she was too lazy to bother with them.
Besides, this person in front of her was calling herself a parent. Lu Yueyang couldn’t help but smile, and she pulled out her phone as well.
During class, Qi Guang was called back to his original seat by the teacher.
From the moment he returned to his original seat, Qi Guang and Ye Xing maintained a very distant social distance, like the same poles of a magnet.
Unfortunately, they ran into a geography teacher who didn’t like to just read the textbook on the podium and liked to walk around all over the classroom… After almost tripping over the two of their long legs stretched across the aisle for the seventh time, the teacher couldn’t help but say, “You two, each of you put your legs across the aisle, are you even letting people walk?!”
“Sorry.”
“My bad.”
The two pulled their legs in a bit, but the chairs still didn’t move.
“Is there a canal in the middle of you two?” The geography teacher patted Ye Xing’s desk, “Come, recite the world’s top ten canals.”
Ye Xing didn’t even know which lesson they were on. He glanced at Qi Guang, whose book also hadn’t been opened.
Damn, was the geography teacher too biased?
He stood up, desperately searching for answers in his mind while hesitantly answering, “The Grand Canal…the Erie Canal…the Moscow Canal…the Kiel Canal…the Manchester Canal…”
“What else?” The geography teacher asked.
He really didn’t know. Those few were still based on names that were easier to remember.
Usually at times like these, when someone was unfortunately called on, there would always be a few cute little angels who would secretly give hints. But unfortunately, the geography teacher was right in front of them, stifling a large number of eager little angels.
The only one who could help was his deskmate.
Unfortunately, his deskmate was an actor.
“Teacher, I really don’t know,” Ye Xing said.
“You should have known such basic things since middle school! Come to my office after class to recite it again,” The geography teacher knocked on Ye Xing’s head, “Someone help him out.”
Qi Guang leaned back in his chair, his book still unopen, and slowly said, “The Albert Canal, the Suez Canal, the Volga-Don Canal, the Göta Canal, the Panama Canal.”
“That’s right, deskmates should help each other.” The geography teacher left with satisfaction, picked up his book and continued teaching.
Ye Xing sat down and moved his chair a few more centimeters away.
